N Gauge Game Layout - Zelda Spirit Tracks 4: A Flurry of Frost covers the Snow Realm!
Continuing with my work on my Spirit traks layout, this time we work on the Snow Realm, which caused it's own problems, mostly that the snow I bought was VERY fine and didn't want to stay stuck to the layout, but finally got it sorted.
Also added the little village and the Snow Temple, but did have to relocate it from it's usual spot, and think I need more trees!
Legend of Zelda is copyright and owned by Nintendo, only the layout is mine!

LSWR N Gauge Folding Layout 7 - Greening the Land and filling the Lake!

Finally we'll be adding some much needed foliage to the landscape to make it look less like just a random grassy field and more like someplace interesting! Always enjoy this part of the build as the layout really does start to become more realistic in a way, though did plan to have a forest but decided to hold back on that just to make sure it could close properly, and very happy with how the l...

    Hi this may be an odd question or something I'm missing but I have set up 4 points now and they all work perfectly but the only thing I have done about 2 times is set my loco of on its journey and one point is set rong and as the loco runs over the frog it will short out. This is something I am worried about and I don't no if it even possible to fix As my family use my layout without me seeing I'm scared this sort might happen to Meany times

    • @GosportRailworks
      @GosportRailworks 6 часов назад

      Are you running an N Gauge layout? if so it might be that the polarity switch on the points aren't moving enough distance to switch the frog over, this was an issue on my layout that I solved using some Gaugemaster Autofrog juicers, you just wire up to the main power bus and one wire to the frog and then it sorts itself out. Though do have to mention, that the relay on the units can be tempermental, but they are reliable otherwise.

    If it was not for n scale modeler's like James, the white glue factories would go out of business! With the figure 8, is there a track polarity issue to worry about?

    • @GosportRailworks
      @GosportRailworks 7 часов назад

      Heh I'm sure there's others still keeping the glue factories going, though I do like to use a lot of it for various things! As for the track, that is something which I've been actively working on, so far it's been confusing me but my current thought is to try and make the powered chassis battery powered, would eliminate polarity issues and since it's meant to be on the cartoony side for the style I could hide it in the printed coach body with a switch on top!

      If I remember right, the Red/Crimson version was a Bachmann Collector special edition, though might be thinking of the Crimson 8F, but yeah either one would be in limited numbers and quite expensive on eBay. Might be an option to buy a spare body and repaint it then swap them round as needed.

      Kato track is quite nice, is a good option for a portable/temp layout since it's quite easy to put together/take apart! For getting it to work with a UK plug, you can get Kato controllers which come with a UK mains plug, or if wanting to use with other controllers, you just modify the connection wire so it's able to be wired into the controller of your choice, but the hassle free way is to look for a Kato Controller with a UK plug, would go check on traintrax.co.uk if not already looking on there.

      @@GosportRailworks it’s fine and happy birthday to your niece then . Wish her the best day ever I do . Birthdays are the times to get the things you want . For me it’s model trains but others would have other intrests to enjoy on there special day And that’s nice knowing them handrails won’t break like toothpicks . I once had a model that did that . I mean my class 28 diesel from “rapido trains uk” has metal handrails all over every angle of the model . And I prefer them cuz it had plastic ones on the underside in white . They’re all snapped off now tho the ones on the front back and sides are all still there . And the things been dropped countless times … blame my elbows for that . And it’s mostly held up . Proper sturdy model that one is . And with directional listing on DC too . Anyways that’s good knowing the handrails won’t break if I hold the models the wrong way . I do tend to drop models . I am carefull tho once in there life’s they will fall of my table onto soft carpets below . Not the end of the world with super glue fixing it mostly tho sometimes it’s not doable so I just get my fingers to pull the rest off or get some clippers to the underside carefully so it won’t damage itself no more . Anyways . Thin metal is fine by me . Tho I do hear the footplate up front bends a tad on all the videos I have seen so far . Is that true ?

    • @MaxwellTheTrainFan
      @MaxwellTheTrainFan 14 дней назад

      And my J94 came in the mail from rails of Sheffield last night . And I can confirm the handrails on the saddle are metal painted black . The the pipes under the cab is plastic . And there is this tiny MINUSCULE cab detail . However the extra details I tried fitting and the coupler didn’t work anymore . Why is that ? Anyways and I also saw some crew figures for the model on the website . I wouldn’t try painting them but oh well . And the smokebox handrail is also metal and all Great model for a great price . Personally a 9.5/10 tho the pipes under the cab should have been metal but they’re sturdy enough I think . Yeah . What’s your thoughts ?

    • @GosportRailworks
      @GosportRailworks 13 дней назад

      I mostly just threw a squishmellow at her and it made her happy heh. As for the footplate on the J94, I have heard of some warping on some models, however on the two which I've owned I've not noticed it myself. Plastic handrails I've not had too many issues with, outside of on some models but luckily they were donors for kitbuilding so it wasn't an issue, only once or twice I've had something slightly misalign but wasn't too hard to pop back in. But even with metal handrails, it's still ideal to lift the model by the footplate, bit more sturdy and less likely to damage things.

    • @GosportRailworks
      @GosportRailworks 13 дней назад

      For the optional extra details, I generally don't add them myself as I'm likely to either glue them to myself or someplace where they aren't meant to live, but without being able to see the model it sounds like that the extra details are fouling with the coupling and are only for when not got a coupling fitted to that location (either for the front only or if intending for the model to be a display piece) For the cab pipework, it would've been ideal that they were made of metal, though from my LMR version they still feel decently strong, it was most likely a cost saving option to have it in just plastic and considering the price of the engine it's not too bad, if the engine cost over a £100 then I'd be more wanting of metal cab pipework along with metal safety valves as well.

You can guess the one I am Refering about The 0-4-0 with the box van for pick ups at the rear and a possible DCC socket could get placed in the van for a good idea and the roof of the van be stuck on by a little magnet power to stay still and easy access . Could this be done by you ? As a model for N scale . Oh and I would recommend having it be put on them Bachman Percy chassis ? If this would ever be done let me know cuz if Bachman or Dapol or something never dose one I may one day wanna try make my own one day . Tho I wanna see if it’s even possible . And your a smart person and I know your printer is good . If it is or isn’t doable I wanna know . Sorry if I am being rude or anything I am just curious . Thanks for reading and bye 👋🏽

      I should be able to make one with the Bachmann Percy, as it wouldn't be too disimiliar to my LSWR B4 kit, though the main thing I need is diagrams so I can make prototypical ones. And most the diagrams would prob be in books, so just need to find the right books with diagrams on industrial engines (which Pecketts are part of), though I do have a single diagram of a Peckett W6, one which I would like to find is a R4 Class as they were used at a local gasworks. But once I find the right books, I'll be able to make some smaller engines to add to my range.

      @@GosportRailworks oh brilliant news that is Oh and another idea for a second peket model . Perhaps use a terrier chassis for them 0-6-0 peket models . And the Percy for well them 0-4-0 ones If both are possible and could eventually be shown on your channel that would be splendid . And if that video ever dose come out . I will be seeing it . And possibly a running session ? That would be nice to see in the end of the video with the custom models !

      I have used a Terrier chassis for a printed Peckett before (not much design) and do know it works, though might be a little tight fitting a decoder inside it! And will try to make a running session with them once I can get round to making them, though can't give a time on when I'll be able to design them unfortunately.

    Hold up a second . Is the model tender drive or engine drive . Personal opinion but I do prefer tender drive models and I say this because even if the model were to Wheel-slip it would mean you wouldn’t be able to notice it happen . Least at this tiny scale and back wheels are covered by the tender axel boxes on all tender engines . Oh and it means it’s way easier to if the valve-gear were to break it wouldn’t interfere with the motor or if I dropped it and had to remove the wheels to replace them once again it wouldn’t affect the model . Anyways thanks for reading and bye 👋🏽

    • @GosportRailworks
      @GosportRailworks 18 дней назад

      The Dapol Q1 is tender driven, however it's via a drive shaft so it powers the drive wheels in the loco, personally I find it a little bit over engineered. Also does have very fragile loco to tender connection wires, so while it looks nice it's a very delicate engine in many regards, for a more robust locomotive which can take more rough handling it would be a Farish chassis, which is why I prefer them for my kit builds.

      @@GosportRailworks that is one wierd build Is there any 0-6-0 tender engines with tender drive and free spinning front wheel sets to only have picking up whilst the tender dose all of the main work . Just to make it easyer

      That's how Dapol do most of their steam models in N Gauge, and off the top of my head there's only one which is still being made (unless they've updated it to be loco driven), which is the LNER J39 Class from the other video you commented on.

    I am getting one of these engines . The thing I have noticed is N scale has a lot less steam options that I like than 00 . Being the type of steam engines I like are medium engines . I don’t like tiny engines but I don’t like huge engines so I tend to go for 0-6-0 tender engines and 4-4-0 tender engines . So this engine being perfect . This and the fowler 4f engines . And I mean sure I nah like them mainline diesels I do like my British railway black small tender engines at times . And I had a old triang Deely 3f tender engine when I used to do 00 and loved it . Even have it the name of red bullet on the middle of the boiler at some point . Tho the thing got sold when I moved to n scale and found that there are only really 2 options this and the 4f Tho I do play train sim I was beyond exited to see the 4f in it and live that engine . tho I do also like them I do enjoy the caladonian blue of that Scottish 812 being closest to me and I have ridden in that enginescab Yeah bye 😂 and sorry for this long comment here

    • @GosportRailworks
      @GosportRailworks 19 дней назад

      They are nice little engines, and do prefer the smaller sized tender engines, quite a few interesting designs in that range, my favourite class would be the LSWR A12! And yeah outside of the most well known engines, or something preserved, there is a bit of a lack of steam for N Gauge, more so when looking at tank engines, it is getting better but diesels and electrics do seem to be the majority in the scale! Not sure if it's just due to more people interested in them for N Gauge, though might just be that they are easier to motorise early on and so dominated the market. And yes, we don't have many 0-6-0 or 4-4-0 tender loco options, unfortunately one of the manufaturers of some good ones has retired, but you can still prob find them on secondhand places, Union Mills is the make, but can be costly. And no worries for the long post, though does take me bit longer to write up a reply!

      @@GosportRailworks I tend to get Bachman n scale And the only 0-4-0 n scale has ready to run if Percy . And from there a resin printed body on top of that to make a peket saddle tank or something Yeah . And to make an N2 I have found James chassis reversed will work But literally that’s about it we need more steam engines . Besides Dapol panniers or the 4f and j39 That’s about it . For non famous engines like the a3 and a4 I wanna see things in the modern world like E2 tank and Caledonian 812 in N scale eventually . I mean we have the terrier . But once again that’s only cuz of Stepney … I want more diversity for steam . And old grahamfarish don’t count . Sure I may get them and they look nice like that general purpose tank resembling a jinty tho that’s nice I want myself more 0-4-0 engines . And sure if they don’t have enough picking up power that’s fine then give them a plank wagon to be sold with them for extra pickups . Like that small 00 diesel that was made that did the same thing . Maybe a peket could be made with s tiny set of wheels and to assist it a small 5 plank truck on the back end with extra picking up power to help and could be removed and swapped for a extra normal n scale coupler . Wouldn’t that be nice to purchase from Bachman or Dapol or sonic rail or something . It would be amazing to see a little n scale Stephensons rocket model or maybe a Stirling single (Emily from Bachman coming soon doesn’t count) The models I wanna see myself is a peket saddle tank with 5 plank truck for extra picking up power to be sold. Also a Caledonian 812 steam engine to be made . And be tender drive too Them are the 2 models I ask for . Bachman can make the 812 and dapol can make the saddle tanks just re using the same chassis and chainge inch out the colour of the wagon behind it perhaps . There we go

      I have been considering making a 3d printed body for an LNER N2, though I was going to fit it to the Sonic 56xx chassis, and Farish do have modern Jintys, do have a few of them as the chassis for some 0-6-0 tank engines. The main manufacturers are somewhat relucatant in exploring industrial engines for N Gauge, though considering the market for the scale is around 20% of that of OO, if it struggles to sell well in that scale then it's unlikely they'll try it for N, which is where kitbuilding tends to step in to fill the gaps in N For a Caledonian 812, given the size of the tender, unless it had a decent coal load to hide the motor, I don't think it would work well tender driven, personally I'd use a 4F or C chassis, but I tend to use them for any tender 0-6-0.

    As much as I love the N scale Thomas range by Bachmann, I just feel like filming with it would be way too hard and challenging and is one of the reasons why I switched to HO scale. I’ll definitely collect and model in the scale but for my own personal collection and probably won’t film with it. Very excited for Bachmann’s new releases like N scale Henry and HO scale Sydney. Stanley looks amazing with those new CGI styled side rods. Definitely making a CGI Thomas first when I start modeling they’re just too perfect

    The Bachmann N scale Thomas range (more specifically Thomas) seems kinda small but all the other engines and any other N scale engine (especially that E2) makes N scale look rather larger than it is

    • @GosportRailworks
      @GosportRailworks 26 дней назад

      I think it's mostly that Thomas is quite undersized compared to the size of the prototype, which is infact a rather large tank engine, think even during the model era of Thomas they made him bit smaller than the E2 But I think it's mostly a stylised choice just so he'd fit in with the other small tank engines and seem "young" compared to the larger engines so he'd appeal to the audience.
