I talk about stuff.
Not enough? Okay fine, I suppose I can be a little more detailed about that.
I upload content on a variety of things. I do some music production occasionally including covers of some of my favorite Christian music as well as writing acapella arrangements of hymns. I also like to talk about video games and theology (not at the same time usually). On top of that, I do the occasional dramatic reading. There's a variety of things here and I know many of you have subbed for different reasons. Fair warning though, I am not what you call...hmmm...what's the word...consistent. Well, okay, maybe once a month on average, but man it's amazing when I do! That's what I tell myself anyway.
Anyway, stick around and find something you enjoy!

Ys X Elixir Farming! Best Methods to Max Stats and Make Nightmare and Inferno Difficulty a Joke!
Took me longer than I would have liked, but I finished testing out multiple elixir farming methods in Ys X: Nordics. This is what I used to crush nightmare difficulty into the ground, and completely destroy the final boss on inferno in about 2 minutes. Maxing out stats is super easy and these elixir farming evaluations can help you figure out the best way to max out Adol and Karja's stats as well. I am an Ys X dominator, and so can you!

Ys X: Nordics - Adol Returns on a Satisfying High-Seas Adventure
Просмотров 185Месяц назад
Adol Christin returns once again in Ys X Nordics, an entry that I can only describe as the lovechild of Ys and Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag. As a longtime fan of the series, I couldn't wait to get my hands on my own copy of Ys X: Nordics once I saw the announcement trailer last year, even though I knew I'd have to wait about a year after it launched in Japan. So, was it worth it? Is Ys X: No...

Note: I mentioned being unable to craft VIT elixirs, but that seems to be incorrect. It comes from 100% discovery, which I did, but did not turn it in like I thought. It's a rainbow seastone recipe so and requires fish meat, so I still recommend buying them outright for efficiency.
There is a vitality elixir recipe book, though I couldn't tell you where I got it from. It may have been the fish completion or the 100% adventure report reward I think.
@mitul103 See, I did all of that too and got the platinum trophy which requires doing all sidequests, etc. I even redid alot of that on nightmare and still never found it. Opened all chests etc. I see it listed online as existing but no location or method of acquisition. By all means, if you figure out what it was let me know and I'll be happy to add a note in the description. Was it a yellow seastone formula like luck? Edit: I see one guide says it's a reward for getting 100% discovery, but I'm not sure why I don't have it. It's possible I forgot to turn it in without realizing it.
@@mrpsthoughtsonthings No, it uses rainbow seastones. I did find a guide that says that it's the final adventure report reward but you need to have a 100% discovery rate to get it. Thanks for the video btw, will be useful to get some farming done before I tackle inferno.
@mitul103 In that case, I'd still recommend buying them outright instead of converting the seastones. Hopefully my inferno fight properly demonstrates just how OP you can get with this. Happy grinding! I'm doing that in Celceta at the moment.
@@mrpsthoughtsonthings There is in fact a way to mass farm rainbow seastones so it's not too bad. If you fight the purple beam ship battles around giant's hand island (either the one to the north or the one just slightly southeast, just fast travel if one isn't there) you can sometimes get a red chest that will give 8-10 seastones. As long as you have autosave on, opening the chest will create a new autosave. You can then load that autosave once you're controlling the Sandras again and the purple fight will be respawned behind you with another guaranteed red chest. Can repeat that as long as you want.
@@mitul103 About how long does that take per run and how frequent are the chests?
Thank you for doing the math!
@eternablood7406 You're welcome! Glad to know hurting my brain paid off!
I never changed jobs
thanks dude, i gotta ask though, do the level stats stack with every job?
@noblewolf6265 Every job has its own unique stats if I remember correctly if that's what you're asking.
@mrpsthoughtsonthings I know they are unique but is there any permanent stats that stay when leveling up all the jobs? example: like in yakuza: like a dragon
@noblewolf6265 Never played that, but if I recall, every stat is job dependent with no carry over.
@mrpsthoughtsonthings ok, let me tell you this, its a awesome and funny experience if you play casually
At around 22:00, I mistakenly corrected myself by saying Items don't carry over into NG+. That was my mistake. I was pretty sure they did, but I hadn't yet played around with it yet so I was having to rely on what I could find online. It would be more correct to say "certain" items don't carry over, but materials used for crafting and ship upgrades do, so feel free to ignore that on screen clarification since what I said verbally is actually correct, and I should have just stayed with that.
*nor not "neither"....
You are correct. Had I said "Neither Adol nor the game shipwreck", that would be correct. I need to tweak the thumbnail anyway.
Ys 3 was my first Ys game
Which platform did you play it on?
@ SNES. I never beat it as a kid. I finally beat it many years later in my early/mid 20s.
@evildeadfan420ify Yeah, I can't imagine trying to play it when I was that age. I may have eventually been able to, but ai don't know if I would have had the patience. Didn't get an SNES until probably around Christmas of '94 I would have been 9 at the time. Granted, I had beaten some games then that can still be challenging today, but Ys is a different story.
@ next to final boss had a lot of 1 hit kills. That frickin’ lightning attack.lol
@@evildeadfan420ify Yup!
8:28 excuse me but fucking huh? That's as realistically attractive as you can get with a woman in a game, id hit that if she wasn't crazy.
As a dev of the game - thank you for this thorough, honest and completely unbiased review! 25:38 I cannot describe how good I felt when you roasted Vara Dark so well. She (and the likes of her) have done a lot of harm (reputation-wise) to us and other studios in the industry that don’t deserve it. Channels like hers affect the atmosphere and motivation at studios in a such a negative way - so much so that they achieve the opposite effect of what they claim to be their goal (to provide criticism so the final product could be better) P.S: Hit Detection provides lots of services (like early game testing, review score prediction, etc). So opinions like the one from the Twitch Streamer are completely misinformed and I am sad that people miss on some great games due to circumstances they don’t completely understand (or have researched enough). Moreover, they have a platform and their message reaches a lot of people.
@S0paTa Glad it came across as intended. I think you guys nailed it and as I continue my series comparing and contrasting this with the original that will come out more and more. Like I said in the video, and as you seem to agree, there can be legitimate criticism of the use of companies like HIt Detection, but not everything needs to be turned into a massive battleground. Levy criticism where it's due, but try to be balanced with it. And when the final product is as good as it is, then who cares? I will also say that after seeing this and the trailer for Cronos: The New Dawn, I'm excited to see how that is. Right up my alley.
Uh hi I'm one of those "woke" people who thinks representation is important and adding in diverse characters is just a reflection of reality because you know, real life is diverse. Not here to argue or anything though, I appreciate your perspective in this video. I also appreciate that you're able to look at things from different angles and recognize when people are being kind of ridiculous. Full disclosure I haven't watched the whole video, I just watched maybe ten minutes of the Angela section. I'm just so confused because I don't spend a lot of time in comments sections or reading game analyses or anything, and I only ended up here because ... well actually I don't remember how I ended up here lol, I was looking into Silent Hill 2 lore surrounding the monster designs and history and somehow ended up seeing the title of your video and was like ??? so I clicked it out of curiosity. Anyway, I digress. I'm confused. Because like ... I just watched a play through of the remake and I thought Angela was quite attractive? Like, she's got a pretty face and she's actually quite skinny??? So like ... are people expecting her to look like a Barbie or ... idk it's just bizarre lol. They made her look way younger and more vulnerable than the original, and the voice acting is great at capturing that kind of lost and depressed quality she has surrounding her. It's honestly more fitting for her character. Like you said she was never like super hot, and the improved graphics mean they can round our her face so she doesn't look so angular and polygonal as she was in the original. I don't think they were intentionally trying to make her less hot or whatever. I'm also really confused by the idea that "Angela needs to be hot because of James sexualizing everything" because like, she's not a construct of Silent Hill? What James sees in Silent Hill is a product of his psyche but Angela's a real person who just happens to be there too. It wouldn't make sense for her to be affected by James. Anyway I didn't realize this was a thing people were saying and it's just so weird to me lol.
@kaitlinmaynard7031 You're not alone. I don't get it either. The "James is sexualizing everything" I think has really gotten overblown over the years. I didn't go into it on my review of the game but I do touch on "that" Pyramid Head scene when comparing how the environments were adapted in the apartments. I've been lazy in continuing my series because I've been playing Ys X: Nordics (just beat it last night) so I need to do a review of that and get back to my SH2: Remake series. I plan on doing comparisons with the cast of the game as well and I'll have to deal with the Angela stuff all over again, unfortunately. Maria got some harsh treatment by certain segments of the fandom as well. I think the character model for Angela in the Remake looks much better. I dunno if I'd say "pretty" because I think she tends to just look sort of average, but that also fits with her downplaying her appearance because of her past...which is also something people have exaggerated. By that I really just mean using "trauma" as an excuse for any and all appearances they think she should have. Does she look anorexic? Trauma! Do you think she looks overweight? Also trauma! No matter what you think, it's all because of that and you get to choose which disorder she developed because of it and if someone disagrees you can say they got it wrong because "trauma makes you do X not Y" and they can make the same argument because they all got their psychology degrees from TikTok. As someone who worked with teenagers, male and female, who went through similar things to Angela, and worse, I just roll my eyes because most of these people don't have a clue. Again, whenever I get around to making my Angela video I'll go i to it more. Overall, I think Remake got her exactly right and a lot of survivors have said they've felt like they were represented incredibly well.
I was so bummed that they removed the ambience of the moth room :(
@00Talie00 How do you mean? I didn't go into it in depth but I thought the mother room was pretty creepy. Not sure if the Death's Head Moth was a reference to Silence of the Lambs or not but I thought it was a fun puzzle.
@@mrpsthoughtsonthings I'm referring specifically to the sound effect/cue that played in the room in the original. Maybe it was cut because you have to be in there longer to do the puzzle and having it repeat would get grating but I hoped it'd pop up at least once because it's a cool a creepy sound.
@00Talie00 I don't remember it at all honestly. I'd go back and scrub through my recording but that's one that OBS crapped out on.
Cool video, love your style.

@kanye7017 I knew what I was doing, though I don't think I knew just how many people wouldn't read the description or the asterisk. Still counts as engagement for the algorithm though, so whatever.
Annoying ass ragebait title. Fucking stop
I think my only real criticism with the Remake is a few lines were delivered better in the original. For example, the prison scene with Maria sounded way more sinister in the original where I thought the new one sounded bored. Otherwise, the remake was fantastic and I’m just glad the came delivered what I wanted from it.
I had that sort of impression when I first heard them too. After relistening to them, I wouldn't say bored, but more subdued. I honestly don't know which I prefer at this point in that scene. Both actresses did a great job, remake is a little more subtle but I don't think the more sinister tone of the original is bad either. Monica did a great job in the OG and it's hard to find fault with how she did that scene.
Even if the game is highly received it's still a souless cashgrab. It's cool they implemented some cut content that couldn't make it in the original, but also disappointing that we don't get hyperspray, great knife, or Born From a Wish which were in the original.
Define "cash grab" and "soulless". Does the absence of the hyperspray or the greatknife as equippable items really make a difference at all? Technically you can use the great knife temporarily at the end as part of a gimmick. Does it affect the story in any way shape or form?
Lmao when you make a title too long and everybody doesn’t see the asterisk
@sterbin5348 I even put it in the description which makes it even better.

@@shad74444 Ha ha! Nope! The title is very tongue-in-cheek. Yet judging from the down-votes from people who didn't watch, you would think I ripped the game a new one.
Well self proclaimed Christians are some of the most hypocritical people on the planet. So not sure what saying that even means about a person anymore. Anyway to those that care you can just mod the PC version and make the woman or nurses hot if you want.
I found myself not being concerned at all about whether the nurses were hot and more so about them not killing me. Crazy, I know.
@@mrpsthoughtsonthings Same. overall its a decent remake but the stutters hurt the atmosphere. Luckily a mod was released to fix that already.
@@clownavenger0 i know they just released a patch to help with some performance issues as well. I didn't really notice much on PS5.
After I figured out the title is meant as a joke and watched the video, I'd have to agree with your takes on this Remake except for the pacing, I actually thought it was really well paced but I never played the Original myself so I don't really have a point of comparison (I do know a fair bit about the Story, Themes and Lore from Silent Hill 1-3 thanks to RUclips and the Silent Hill Wiki however) Also if we're being honest, Silent Hill has always been Progressive, in Silent Hill 1 you literally kill a God, Silent Hill 2 tackles subject matter such as SA and Mental Health, and Silent Hill 3 speaks for itself ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Judging even by the very low standards of the people calling the Remake Woke, the first 3 Games were also Woke
@jaydenlobbe7911 I'd say that's a pretty loose definition of progressive since the "god" of the cult would be more akin to a demon. I wouldn't call Shin Megami Tensei progressive for doing the same thing either since you have to consider Japanese attitudes towards Christianity over the last several hundred years and how they perceive the Christian God compared to Shintoism and Buddhism. Very different cultural background than what we have here. I understand your point, I'm just not sure I would call it inherently progressive. I think some of those themes are just universal regardless of what side you're on.
@@mrpsthoughtsonthings While I can kind of understand your point when it comes to Silent Hill 2, Silent Hill 1 and *especially* 3 are definitely Progressive For starters, the Cult’s God isn’t necessarily a Demon, but she is certainly not a Good Deity like the Christian God, it’s actually rather complicated, Max Derrat made a really good video analysing the Cult’s God: ruclips.net/video/D-yjzAs6PB8/видео.htmlsi=pqNty8MZr3FEMlrn If you haven’t watched his Silent Hill Mythology series yet I highly recommend it, he knows a lot about the Lore as well as the inspirations behind the series, and his interpretations also line up well with the established canon Additionally the Deicide Trope in Japanese Games (mostly JRPGs) is far more interesting than most people are actually aware of, it is in fact a subtle critique of Capitalism, and you don’t have to take my word for it, Moon Channel has an hour long video explaining this fact in detail: m.ruclips.net/video/IEUqLL8J4gI/видео.html (The Kirby part is mostly a joke in case you were wondering, mostly) If you were to apply this video to the Cult’s God (particularly the fact the Cult believes that Humans existed before her, and the fact she never fulfilled her promise to create Paradise) you might see what I’m getting at, I’m not saying the comparison is perfect, but it is interesting nonetheless Also the Pro-Choice messaging in Silent Hill 3 isn’t exactly subtle :P
I've seen a few of Max's videos before. Always entertaining. I went and listened to Moon's video as well. Fascinating discussion, and most of the history I already knew, though not the modern side of things. I think he's right on the money with his statement that, as a general concept, the theme is about overcoming a system (political, economic, religious, etc) that causes someone to feel oppressed. I would say the common trope of oppressive empires in jrpgs is a pretty good example of this as well. FF7 is probably the best example of what he talks about since Shinra is the epitome of a corporation taken to excess without any sort of moral compass. I get where he's coming from for the most part. I don't know if I completely agree with his conclusions about things like Sephiroth represents the government. He makes a good case for most of what he says, don't get me wrong, I'm just not sure I come to the same conclusions on all of his examples outside of a general archetype of abuse of power and overcoming that power structure with "gods" being the ultimate representation of that. The foreign/alien entity being the source of that many times was an interesting detail I hadn't thought much about. As for SH3, there's also just the general theme of coming of age for girls and themes of motherhood and anxiety surrounding that as well. Choice certainly factors into that...the coat-hanger is a bit on the nose.
@@mrpsthoughtsonthings Glad I was able to share some new knowledge to float around the ol’ thought bubble :V
Oh a 1000%, once i saw Angela wasn't goonable i knew the woke mind virus had taken over Silent Hill 2 and i just couldn't stand it, as a heterosexual man i can only enjoy games while fully brick up and compagnies should be more considerate !!! 🤬🤬😡😡

24:18 I played the remake on hard, it was my first time playing any silent hill. The most amount of bullets I ever had was 112, which I thought was too much, my friend even said the original was more resource scarce. Seeing you with 205 handgun bullets now makes me want to call them out cuz holy hell
@JubiSmile Keep in mind I played on standard in the original too so I'm not sure about what hard mode was like in the original. It may have been more scarce there. I only did standard on both versions.
I have been a fan of Silent Hill from day one, and when the remake was announced, I hoped and wished that it would be good, but I was wrong in the end because this remake was great and I'm very glad
Same. I would love to see the original remade with the same level of care. There was fan remake that coverd up through collecting the three keys that looks a bit dated now but still doesn't look half bad. I don't know if it got shut down or not but that was probably a few years back when that was shown off.
Thank you for this level headed review. I could not agree more with almost everything you said in this video. I found the Eddie fight pretty annoying but as far as preserving the intention of the story is done well. I'm enjoying this remake of one of my favorite horror games and I'm eagerly waiting to see if they're going to do the "Born From a Wish" segment as dlc.
Thanks for the feedback! As for Eddie, the only part of the fight that annoyed me was the third phase. About to get a shot off then *boom* meat slides in the way!
Seeing the asterisk and knowing I'm going to have fun reading the comments. lol So here, have another from someone who actually watched the video.
Thank you, thank you. I had something similar happen with my review of FF7: Rebirth. I started out saying that FF7 was overrated, but that was mostly because I was a curmudgeon who was just being contrary and I thought it was going to be a victim of its own hype. In the same introduction to the video, I then talked about how I absolutely had every intention of playing Rebirth since I had fun with Remake and, after playing it through, remembered why I had loved these characters so much to begin with and that there was a good reason FF7 had the reputation it did. People couldn't make it past the first few seconds before being angry and downvoting it even though the review was mostly positive and I talked about how much I enjoyed it overall. I've been downvoted more on this video than that one because people can't get past the title which is an obvious joke *which is also in the description!*. I'm actually proud of myself for this one doing so badly because of that. It's impressive!
You, sir, are a master baiter🙂↔️
I try.
Here's my thing Mr P. I agree with alot of what you said but for me as much as the new Angela was more fitting in the remake and didn't seem out of place like the redub was for the HD Collection on PS3 I felt that Remake Angela there were times Gianna Kiehl's performance was too edgey for my liking. That's not to say that Gianna did terribly overall as she did better than Donna Burke (original Angela) during the mirror scene at Blue Creek and she did great in the very first scene at the graveyard but her tone when she's not in pain or angry just comes off as either hopeless or too goth (I dunno how else to describe it). Donna's performance in the original really comes off like an abused and battered woman her performance in the original to me is top notch as well as Monica Taylor Horgan (Mary and Maria) Salome Gunnarsdottir did exceptionally well as Mary/Maria I think she got the character down pat. So yes, everyone else in the remake did fine, great even but Angela in the remake is mixed for me. I don't hate her but it would take some getting used to in more playthroughs (got three endings so far in the last two weeks i've played) I felt the remake's rewritten and additional dialogue was a major improvement especially the endings the dialogue in the finale Maria encounters was just chef's kiss.
See, I think her feeling of hopelessness is very fitting for her character. Given what she went through and the longer she stays in town without finding her mother, she starts to be more despondent. I would say she sort of mirrors James' own feelings of hopelessness as he continues to not find Mary and only sees Maria get brutally killed over and over again. As for Donna Burke, I never got the same impression you did. She always just sounded...weird. More nuts than anything else. It just never clicked with me which is a shame since she did such a phenomenal job with Claudia in SH3. The more I've done comparisons with Salome and Monica, the more I've grown to love Salome's performance. I don't know if I'm quite to where I prefer her over the original, but I found myself liking Maria much more in this version. Not sure how to put my finger on it, but it may be that the personality traits of Mary that come through from time to time in the original seem better conveyed here. She has her flirtatious side that's for sure, and James is really off put by her forwardness in this one, but there's enough of Mary in her that it causes him to be deeply conflicted. I think the labyrinth scene showcases this very well. James seems much more conflicted about how he should be responding to Maria. She's everything physically that he had wanted Mary to be, especially in response to what the disease had done to her and the frustration he had been feeling. At the same time, there is a sense of guilt and questioning whether he should be having these feelings for Maria in the first place since he is there, ostensibly, to find Mary. That portrayal I think makes the last conversation between James and Mary in the "Leave" ending that much more poignant. He admits his guilt and that he even had grown to hate her, but when Mary asks "then why do you look so sad", it really comes together with how Luke Roberts portrayed James. The variation on "In Water" in the NG+ ending is also just heartbreaking with James' portrayal. Then of course there's Eddie. I had my wife watch the scenes with Eddie in the original and then remake. She said he was better in the remake from the beginning, but the scene in Toluca prison where Eddie's expression changes and he starts laughing and says, "You should see your face James", she said was absolutely terrifying. Next to James, Eddie was probably my favorite portrayal. Laura was really good too. Evie Templeton did a great job with her and she'll be in the live action version playing Laura as well. She's a good little actress even if I felt the Room 312 scene felt a little odd, but that was true of the original Laura as well.
@@mrpsthoughtsonthings It's not the feeling as much as it's her tone of voice really that throws me off of her portrayal of Angela. There are times when she's not in that deep hollow goth tone where I think she sounds much better but it's just my opinion. I think her sounding nuts is just how the original developers wanted Angela to come off. She had killed her own father in a frenzy so she would be hyper defensive with that knife and visibly upset thinking that James was like every man and every man to her being like her father. As for Claudia I agree but I still think she knocked it out of the park with Angela being a victim of abuse in another context she would have done a spousal abuse victim to a T because that is how I always saw that performance coming off as. With Maria in the original she always came off as confident, rebellious yet kind/caring. Overall she had a fiery disposition. She was always reassuring that she was real because that was her way of trying to seduce James, I like that the remake expands upon it more with the scene at Heaven's Night and the bonding moment by the statue. Most other guys would have taken a shine to Maria but James was hard to win over (considering his reason for being in silent hill and his faithfulness to his wife) but she was still her own person. She's less about joking around and sarcasm in the remake than she was in the original even though the original lines are there intact for the most part. But overall I'd have to give points to the original game for Maria but I do like how the final confrontation with Maria in the Leave and In-Water endings have a better dialogue and scenes than the original 100% I prefer the remake Maria final encounters over the originals. Eddie in the remake is really interesting because in the original Eddie always came off as trying to play the victim to account for what happened where he always was. In the remake he comes off as more vindicated in his actions as he thinks in Consequentialism i.e if they sneak up on him or impose or make fun of him he has the moral right to kill them. The way he tried to play off what happened to the body at the Cafeteria was more effective than Eddie rambling on about his past and nervously laughing it off as a joke in the original. So they definitely did a proper modern rewrite on Eddie that fit much better with his character. He's my favorite for this exact reason. Evie Templeton just seemed a bit too old for the role she was less annoying than the original Laura and I think that her hurt performance somewhat because I didn't have much of an emotional reaction to her performance as Jacklyn breckenridge's performance. Again just my thoughts she wasn't horrible in the role but I just think she was too old for it.
Yeah, it's definitely a preference thing. I saw someone comment somewhere that there have been survivors of SA who felt that Angela in the remake was a much more accurate portrayal of what it's like, and I tend to agree based on the experiences I've had working with teenagers who have been through that. In fact, some of what I read in their files mirrored Angela's and sometimes worse. That may be the reason I find the original to be almost cartoonish in how she acts. Now, keeping her in a very heightened David Lynch sort of environment, then yes, I can appreciate what she did, I just prefer Gianna's performance in basically every scene. I don't know if I would say Maria was less sarcastic in the Remake. I think the scene with the refrigerator was a perfect demonstration of that, and she does that on the pier too, though, admittedly, not as much as the original did. Her tone of voice I think is probably what makes the difference between the two. Completely agree with your description of Eddie. They nailed it with him and he was probably one of the ones I was most worried about. I hated the original Laura so much. Something about her tone and just how much of an unlikeable brat she was. Granted, I get why she was that way, but I just wanted to throw her through a wall most of the time. In the original, the turnaround scene in the hotel where you're suddenly supposed to sympathize with Laura didn't really feel earned with how much of a turd she was. I think Evie did a much better job transitioning the player from hating Laura into feeling more sympathetic. It did for me anyway. I still don't think either of them really sounded great after James admits what he did. That was the only scene I was disappointed with Evie in because I had hoped she would do better. Incidentally, looking at her age (her specific age isnt' really given anywhere) depending on where you look, which is right at Laura's age. I think having a girl like her who has a little more gravitas in the performance gives a lot more weight to her sadness about Mary. The original actress did a great job of making you hate Laura early on, and I don't think she was bad in the later part, but the tone of her character always felt a little jarring going into the hotel. Incidentally, didn't know Evie was born in Barbados. Fun little bit of trivia there. Like you said, it ultimately comes down to preference. Both casts had good performances across actors and, as I said in the video, both communicate the story perfectly well. Most of it just boils down to preference and personal experience will inform some of that. I'm just happy to have a civil discussion and be able to say what we liked or didn't like about certain portrayals without it turning into vitriol and name-calling. It's refreshing and I appreciate your input, I really do. Always nice to get a different perspective.
@@mrpsthoughtsonthings Well you also have to understand that Gianna's performance and lines still do coinside with the original's. Again it's just that the time period I grew up in I've seen women in their early 20s act the way Donna Burke portrayed. You don't see that these days because teenagers/young people act much differently 30 years later(far more aggressive). For me the original Angela captures the kind of frantic mental state of the time with teenagers and young women and well naturally isn't up to date with things. I don't find her cartoonish in the slightest simply due to the fact that this was a different time period and thirty years from now people will argue the same for the remake and how it differs from things in 2054. Not disagreeing with you but just defending the performance. I've never really watched David Lynch films to make that distinction so I can't use that to defend the original Angela except to say from my own personal experience her performance is more in line with how victims of SA and spousal abuse acted over 30 years ago. (On Maria's performance in the remake) She's just feels more normal in all honesty (which was scary in it's own right) and less demeaning than her original counterpart. The refridgerator scene to me isn't the best indicator of her sense of humor as the performance of Salome and Luke came off as really dry in that compared to the funny sarcasm of Guy and Monica (even though they hated each other IRL you couldn't tell that at first due to their acting chemistry lol). It's because the remake is played straight up and serious in the acting (which isn't a bad thing for the game to finally take itself serious). And no Monica Taylor Horgan and Salome Gunnarsdottir have a very different take on it. Salome's is more straight forward and playful where Monica's is more upfront and seducing. Salome's performance as I rightfully assumed from the trailer has Maria more sympathetic and more subtle about her overall demeanor where she's more friendlier than the original Maria. I guess Sarcastic was the wrong way to put it but her tone of voice is more forceful and her jokes come off as sarcastic based on how she talks I was more worried about Angela than the other characters. I think alot of fans were in all honesty. I can definitely see why you'd be concerned with Laura but Jacklyn's original performance was in line with her being an 8 year old despite Jacklyn being 10 years old her voice and mannerisms did capture the essence of a child perfectly. I think the dislike for her character showed just how well she done and why she still has voice over and videogame work today. It's just that Evie is 12 years old even older than Jacklyn was and her being a pre-teen it does throw me off of thinking this is an 8 year old that does drawings and explores. Being 12 years old is when you take your first steps into becoming a teenager. She sounds much more mature and while that's not typically a bad thing when you're a director and you want to get the more genuine accurate performance alot of little factors matter. But that's just my opinion. Yeah it does, alot of us OG fans still prefer the original because it goes in line with what we remember and grew up around. Both casts were rock solid in their performances and takes on things. And no problem again my only issue is with Angela because I felt the hollow goth voice was reaching a bit but her other dialogue lines and her sadness was done pretty well.
@OrdinaryMan1999-tn4hh Out of curiosity, how old are you? I can't imagine we're that far apart based on some of what you say here about growing up in certain time periods yet we obviously have very different takes on what that was like.
if you are spending any measurable time playing with childrens toys you dont really qualify to be speaking on what anything means. because if eurocentric culture allowed you to have enough wealth to even have games then you were already verified as a perpetual toddler who's mental development is SO stunted that you still cant acknowledge that humans dont live in their own personal vacuums and everything you have today was made by other people and you will have to rely on other people for virtually everything for your entire life - aka there is no such thing as a self made millionaire etc. well off people in eurocentric culture would starve to death if they ever had to rely on themselves for necessities. even if provided every imaginable thing necessary to mine/refine/plant/harvest/cook/clean/manufacture/maintain the resources required to stay alive.. and if you cant admit to interdependence then you are demonstrably stuck with a childs worldview. mostly only happens because the last time well off eurocentrics have real consequences for their actions is when they are toddlers and are generally spoiled into mental ineptitude from there. never having to be in a net loss situation in their lives.
Did you wander into the wrong comment section little guy? Are you lost? Does your wrangler know where you are?
Ugly women are ugly and the scene that plays after Eddie is beaten is ruined but other than that it should bring new fans to the original. Resident Evil 2 remake was awesome and Silent Hill 2 is good as well. Its like comparing the original RE2 to the RE2 remake. They arent replacements, they are meant to bring in new fans.
@rorynelson6940 How do you think the scene was ruined? I mean, James doesn't explicitly say "I killed a human," but besides that, what was the issue?
Not even mad at the click bait. Get your bag king lol. Small creator phase is rough
@SeanMania213 Ha ha! Is it really clickbait though when the thumbnail and description point out the title is obviously a joke?
let me preface by saying i have watched your whole video and i get that this is not precisely what you are saying. however, i find the notion that you could even in theory make a game which has a focus on violence against women more "woke" laughable. i truly wonder if a single man who played silent hill 2 has spoken to a woman about the game. or is this narrative completely obscured to those who do not have that lived experience. it was always "woke", even if you could not see that, even if you were blinded by nostalgia.
I guess part of it could be whether or not you actually consider the focus to be "violence against women". What I mean is this: did James commit an act of violence against Mary? Very much so. However, her being a woman wasn't really a factor in the motive other than being his wife and there were obviously strains on the relationship including physical intimacy that resulted from her condition and her years of suffering from that. Was Angela a victim of abuse? Very clearly so. Was the reason she was abused because she was a woman or was it because it was out of convenience and opportunity for her sadistic father? We don't know if he ever was abusive towards her mother, though I'm sure we could probably presume he was. I say all that to say this: I think there's a difference with this sort of thing when the motive itself is not "because you're a woman". If I was out doing my job out in "the hood" (somewhere I go frequently) and someone decided to rob me at gunpoint, why did they do it? I'm white, and I'm a man, but simply because those two factors exist does not mean that the person committing the crime against me did it for either of those reasons. Those could simply be coincidental and have nothing to do with it. The act may have simply been the person wanting money and I was an easy mark. Back to your original point, I had my wife sit down with me and I went through an A-B comparison with her with both Angela and Maria/Mary. She thought Maria was much better in the remake as far as characterization. In fact, she was happy to see the OG Maria get killed in the elevator. She saw Maria as a detestable woman considering how she kept coming on to James and disparaging Mary, etc. Even though many of the lines of dialogue were the same between versions, the other interactions they had made Maria feel more like a real person to her and much more sympathetic. She also thought the portrayal of Mary was well done and she thought the character traits of Mary that occasionally came through in Maria seemed better. She may not have loved the new Mary as a person, but she didn't hate her guts in this version either. My wife had a similar reaction to Angela. She thought the way Angela acted and reacted to things in the new version felt far more realistic and she felt a lot more sympathy for Angela because of how good the portrayal was. That's not to say she didn't have sympathy for the original, but she thought the new Angela had much more pathos to her. My wife is not a gamer by any stretch, and she usually doesn't like these sorts of things at all (horror games I mean or really any explicit content about this sort of topic). For her to feel that badly for Angela and even Mary over the original tells me that the average woman probably would understand this sort of thing on a visceral level moreso than I ever could. Seems to indicate to me that the actress and the dev team got it right.
@@mrpsthoughtsonthings first of all i didn't say the focus, rather a focus; SH2 explores many different topics from various angles. but to say violence against women is not one of them is obtuse. again, i think this is fundamentally because of a different worldview that one (perhaps yourself) would not consider a husband/wife or any male/female romantic or sexual dynamic to be inherently gendered. domestic violence disproportionately affects women. and the specific phenomenon in SH2 regarding vitrol, violence and abandonment of women with chronic and fatal illnesses by their husbands and male partners is even further disproportionate. on top of this, the majority of the monsters we encounter in this game are depicted with feminine anatomies. we see them brutalised by james proper and sexually by james' projection of pyramid head. if this doesn't reinforce this recurring theme i don't know what does. this isn't even mentionning the childhood abuse of angela as i feel that should be obvious to anyone. again this wasn't necessarily a jab at your opinions rather those which have seemed inescapable in the run up to this release which honestly should not be given the time of day. while you have at least spoken with your wife, i fear many others have not. it is as if many have not even considered this aspect in the two decades SH2 has been with us.
@sespeI I think we may be talking past each other here. I didn't mean to imply I thought you said it was the only focus since it obviously isn't, nor do I deny the fact that DV or IPV (whichever abbreviation they use these days) tends to affect women more than men. Just saying that it may not be *because* they are women. I think that's a distinction that needs be taken into consideration. If I were to hit my wife, it wouldn't be because she's a woman but because I was angry and lost control (especially since I'm not a violent person by nature). Her womanhood isn't a factor. As for James, there was clearly a swxual component to much of what he saw because that was obviously part of their relationship that had been removed due to illness. That and Mary's own admission that she would verbally berate him out of anger at her own situation (misplaced anger towards him) wore him down over time. Abandonment is also something that, as you point out, is regrettably more common than it should be, though really any abandonment of a spouse in those situations is too many. As for Angela, the discourse around her has been atrocious from what I've seen from certain segments of gamers, many who I think missed the deeper point. Incidentally, Masahiro Ito denied that Pyramid Head was doing anything sexual. Physically abusive and violent, but that doesn't always mean sexual. Take that for what you will. I've worked with both male and female survivors of abuse who were in residential therapy which also makes me highly irritated with the arm-chair psychologists who keep throwing around their own hot takes on Angela but have never actually worked with girls around her age that have undergone this sort of thing. That's the other reason a lot of these people annoy me.
@@mrpsthoughtsonthings i won't speak over you anymore and again i'm not saying you have the worst takes on this of all time. art means different things to different people at different times. we're never going to see eye to eye on this since you're a conservative and i'm a socialist, ergo we do not perceive things in the same way. be that what it will. all the best.
@sespeI You're fine. I never thought you were talking over me or perceived it as such. I could tell there was probably some sort of worldview difference there with some of the wording and we obviously would disagree on that. I think we probably agree on the essentials of the story and the meaning behind it more than we disagree and I enjoy those sorts of conversations regardless of someone's political background. That's why I do videos like this. I feel like we used to be able to have these conversations a lot as game enthusiasts but unfortunately things have become quite Balkanized over the last several years. I still haven't played the remake yet, but I'm really happy they didn't discard or down play Angalia's past. I was really fearful that they would ruin her past that was touchy to talk about and something that needed to be told as best it could without tearing it down or dumbing it down. The game honestly changed my prespective on story telling, and seeing how the remake still manges to make James's truth hit hard makes me happy. All in all, I'm happy the charater's past didn't change all that much and they took the tough and triggering subjects with respect. Your essay was intresting and I respect your views and agree with your stance as someone who isn't christian. Good job, please make more videos.
@watermelonbread8249 Thanks! Glad you enjoyed it. I'll get to the other ones hopefully sooner rather than later.
i was pretty excited for the remake til i got to the graveyard and angela said "i'm looking for silent hill, too: restless dreams"
@stupidbluebird I must have missed that line. I don't recall anything like that in any of the rest of the dialogue though. Like I said, I apparently even missed that.
bro 🤣
I expected this game to be a stinker because none of the involved factors, Konami, Bloober or the Silent Hill IP, have had particularly good track records for well over half of my lifetime at this point, and I don't think that that is an unreasonable standpoint. Frankly I can't help but to feel like many of the people who were optimistic about this game feigned optimism because they didn't want the "anti-woke" people to sack another win. SH2R turning out to be a good game is a pleasant surprise and I congratulate everyone who worked on this project for their achievement. But I will not apologize for making a prediction that turned out wrong _against_ the odds.
@CErra310 Nor should you have to apologize. Like you said, there were a lot of factors against it and I think those were reasonable causes for concern. I'm glad it didn't turn out that way either.

@@mrpsthoughtsonthings do you think it's worth it to get all those dislikes because of the title being a joke?
If you don’t want politics and ideologies in games, you should probably stop playing games.
@SmittyWerbenJagermannJensen I should clarify. Metal Gear Solid for example had themes of anti-nuclear weapon proliferation and the horrors of war. Those are, generally, universal. Most people (certain politicians excluded) don't just love the idea of war. It's a theme most people can relate to. Star Trek did the same thing throughout most of its run from ToS through Enterprise. Most of the time, when the episode was dealing with a cultural issue, they stroke to strike a balance between how both sides were represented. It was intended to get you to think. They weren't telling you what to think or trying to guilt trip the viewer into changing their perspective. Really it boils down to subtlety and nuance which I think is lacking in a lot of media. If the writers aren't going to try and be fair to both sides, then it starts to feel like propaganda. Good storytelling, in my opinion, can handle these things but they have to be handled carefully. There are a lot of books and movies I've read and watched over the years that do this incredibly well. The ones that are hamfisted and preachy I tend to not like. The latter is what I don't want to see. Star Trek was always progressive, but they weren't disrespectful about it either. Not sure if this helps clarify my position or not.
@@mrpsthoughtsonthings There's "sides" than don't deserve respect or representation. Some sides are just wrong a bad. And writers are not obligated to present both sides fairly, that's not their job, they're not journalists. You're basically arguing that it's not propaganda when you agree with it, because is something with which you already agreed with to begin. But if it differs from you held ideology then it is propaganda.
@MANUELEYTOR No. I'm saying it's not propaganda if you're at least trying to be fair. This is a generalized statement. I don't deny some sides of issues don't need to be respected. In GENERAL, I think there needs to be balance. I'm not talking about the exceptions.
