VW MK8 Golf R KLR Steering Wheel Module Install
After a year of ownership of my Mk8 Golf R, I finally got the dreaded Travel Assist error. Instead of waiting 5+ months for a new steering wheel from VW I opted to purchase this module from Anthony at ACM Technik.
Not only does this module fix travel assist errors, it also increases the hands free time while using steering assist. A great little buy and a super easy install.

Hey considering going this route. Had my my steering wheel replaced about a year ago and started getting error codes the past 1-2 months. Have you had an issues since you installed the chip?
is this a plug and play upgrade? or did it need any code to install.. the install looked simple .. but got to ask..

Anther reason to wait for the next generation with a new steering wheel.

I installed it about a month ago on mine and it's been flawless. Just plug and play
I installed on my formentor and still asks me to put the hands on the steering wheel, but now its unable to detect my hands.
Did you buy a legit KLR module or one from Aliexpress?
Where do you buy a legit klr? I seen klr modules from 300euro with chinese text om the packaging

I don't think this will work, Volkswagen has recognized that it is the steering wheel itself, which is why new steering wheels have been released. They are not going to invest millions in new steering wheels when such a cheap solution is offered.
That is not correct. This module is what controls Travel Assist, there is nothing else in the steering wheel that can fail.
That's not correct! There is a touch sensor that fails underneath the leather of the steering wheel. This detects if you have you hands on the steering wheel. This aftermarket module bypasses that sensor and simulates that you have the hands on the wheel. An affordable solution but it does no longer work as intended by the manufacturer. So it's up to the owner if they choose this solution, but the problem is not the module but the hardware in the steering wheel, The replacement module is a simulator that allows hands free travel and thats not legal in many places, keep that in mind when opting for this solution. Not judging but at least let people make a well-considered desicion.

@@Diagnosedanyou are right, there is also plenty of minimally used steering wheels on the market now, i thinks most of them are bad/old one from warranty replacements. The correct, good ones for error free TA are in case of Skoda manufactuded from 05.2023 and SW: 0023
All this module does is send a dummy feed that your hands are on the steering wheel, a simple fix to a maddening problem propagated by VWs attorneys.

This upgrade makes no sense..to just increase the screen The proper upgrade should be to have 1. mirroring ..no need to wire the set to handphone to nennect wirelessly 2. Can bus install to enable steering controls 3. Instal digital meter cluster The hardware can be bought from ebay suppliers or accessory shops who will install it
why is it only for the 2016 year and up. cant i put this on my 2014 model?
You need the MIB2 system for it to work. If you upgrade to that unit you can run this screen.
I just replaced my screen for my Golf mk7 GTD 2015 from a Mib1 screen to a discovery pro screen but i noticed that the quality of my audio has decreased can someone help me out on a fix?

Did you have a MIB 2 Unit already installed ? I have a mk7 golf gti 2013 dynaudio with mib 1 have been advised will have to get a min 2 unit with a mib 2 dynaudio amp in order for it to work

It's funny to see the Harriers shadow against the ship, when it is pitch black outside. You can see it at 1:27. I would say that is a bug or you had enough light from you left side, like the moon, to cast that shadow. Either way, nice video!

Also how do you get your pilot Gstrain breath sound to be different? He sounds different than mine. I have “hear like in helmet” checked. I wonder if that affects it.
U earned urself a sub and like. I just did the CBU97 DTOS with TGP against a SA9 and Shilka and having a good time. Cluster bombs have been falling a bit short by maybe 10-15m. Don’t have to get shredded trying to CCIP bomb them anymore. Have you tried cluster bombs yet? What’s your best release angle 📐? I’m having best luck in 30-45 degree release.
Thanks and welcome, hope you enjoy. Cluster bombs are perfect for the DTOS mode. I usually am using a 45 degree release angle for them. Also I'm using the Echo One sound mods and I believe that changes the G Strain breath sounds.

I bought 2017 Volkswagon Golf which had the system you swapped in already installed, however the unit stopped working and Volkswagen quoted me £1000.00 for a new unit and installation. I have bought the exact unit needed for £100.00, is it just a case of a straight swap or will there need to be some coding done to get the system up and running? TIA!!

If your old display has Voice instead of Mute, then you've got MIB2. You can switch the screens out without touching the head unit like the guy did in the video

Yes that is correct, you need the MIB2 “brain” that’s located in the glovebox. I covered this in the video.

Hard to make the R sound good, but this seems like the best tone I’ve heard for it. Little to no rasp and no pops or bangs (not my taste). Does it sound nice in the cabin?
I'm the same way, it seems like we're the minority when it comes to exhaust taste. Everyone loves the non-resonated cannons, and I definitely understand the appeal. Yet, the crisp and clean note is more in line with what the Golf R stands for. I have a Milltek resonated cat-back on my R, it's perfect for my taste. Crisp consistent sound, versatile, and keeps the back end looking elegant.
@@HotYogurtMan How is the sound in the cabin? I don't really care about outside, but I'd like a more interesting sound inside.
@@lucasschryver3786 Far and away an upgrade from the factory exhaust, but without the drone or constant blast of louder systems. You will feel much more connected with your car, that's a guarantee!
