Everquest XP w/ Tomias (Batphones & Bros) Ep. 8
Просмотров 9314 дней назад
In Everquest, the world is populated with powerful gods and dragons. These creatures usually spawn in a 12-72 hour window and if killed, drop the most powerful treasures in the game. It takes a well coordinated group of up to 72 players to bring the beasts down (less if the players are well geared and skilled.) Tomias mans the batphone in our guild. He tracks when these creatures spawn, and ale...

Thank you for the great interview! I agree that what sets EQ apart from other games is how essential communication and coordination between players is. Group play is kinda my speed, though-I’ll leave raiding to the professionals. 😉
oh yea group play is my favorite, hopefully it’ll pick up when GoD and other expansions come out
Great interview! Just because we’re playing a game, and might live thousands of miles (or kilometers 😉) apart, doesn’t make the community we build any less meaningful, or important.

Wow I love the idea of this podcast and it’s super interesting. Please continue!!
@@Breezyk4832 thanks! Got a new ep on the way :)
Super excited to see you try Pantheon!
man it’s been great! I started this weekend and I’ve got a summoner at lvl 9…was definitely not expecting it to be so good
Hey man, on your Teek LFG thing - I feel Teek generally stinks for leveling groups. With the bombardment of PL services and the amount of ‘Dads’ on the server I’d wager 70% of most lvling/exp comes from PLers. The other issue with the game right now, is we are stuck at 65 with no new AAs until like May when GoD comes out. So you either have people that are already maxed not interested in playing or you have no real hurry to get it done. I know a lot of folks happy to sit at 0% exp into lvl and rely on the no de-leveling perk until we get closer to GoD. Once that happens I’d imagine an increase in group play. Until then, shits hard lol. My play time is also sporadic so I feel ya. HMU tho and if I have the time/energy we can do something 😊
oh man I didn’t look at it this way, definitely spot on 💯
Back in 2001, I moved to Firiona Vie (the role-playing preferred server) the day it launched. Pretty quickly, there was a tension between the roleplayers (i.e. casual players) and the hardcore players (which were basically two raiding guilds). As I recall, there was a fair amount of nastiness on both sides of the divide. But Jadawin has the right take on it-there’s no wrong way to play the game, and neither side takes anything away from the other.
I’m a Bard main and have rarely had trouble finding groups, but I’ve always been in the majority level range. I suspect one factor that worked against you was that there were higher/max-level pullers also LFG that groups would probably pick first. If you can claw your way to 65, I bet that wouldn’t happen again.
ya it’s been the same for me on the bard too…I logged in last nite and there weren’t many groups going on, so I jumped on guild chat & sent tells to folks to get one going. The tried and true method
Klucifer! It’s Dread! Cool to hear your experience.

Great conversation-thank you! It’s interesting to get a glimpse of what the future might be like on Teek in the years to come. I’ve personally never engaged with anything past LDoN, so I’m looking forward to it!
right?? Same here I’ve never been past planes of power it’ll be fun
great talk!!
I did a 32hr OOT ancient cyclops camp in 1999, looking back I can't understand why.
@@ffdv7458 lol I did the raster camp in lower guk for my monk epic on teek, it was also a 30 hour affair and the sense of excitement when he finally spawned was off the charts!
I didn’t do 30 hours straight…it was like, 3 days of camping him with all the free time I had
I played Ultima online then my wife at the time forces me to go to her class reunion and her friends husband told me about EverQuest. We got home and I played Everquest for days as well.
so class reunions are good for something! Lol
I remember wanting to be that “main tank” 18:35, i ended being it on my server on Vallon Zek. It Took so much work 100% RA etc etc. i was some little kid in high school with these grown adults on teamspeak/ventrilo. 😅

Great conversation! The EQ Bard is my absolute favorite class in any MMO-such a fun toolkit, and super active. I’m really spoiled by modern EQ’s quality of life improvements for Bards, though, especially melody and the bandolier-props to Questin for manually twisting and instrument swapping while also typing!!
Right?? idk how he does it...its tough enough with melody/bandolier and socializing/mezzing. Plus, I don't think he has the best camera either on p99
Well, the algorithm sent me here, probably because I also follow Dramaquest. I imagine if you keep putting out interesting content that you enjoy making for its own sake, over time the channel will grow organically. As for PoF, this is my first time ever being able to access the zone, and I agree it is fantastic! For any other casual players who might not have the time to flag properly, if you get piggybacked into a PoF raid you can gain permanent access after killing Fennin Ro and hailing the Essence of Fire that appears. Very much worth it for the great grouping options!
great tip! I was just last nite trying to think how I can get my bard lvled from 60-65 (he doesn't have any flags) and was planning to start at justice trial and just try to do the PoP progression...this ^ makes a lot more sense. I'll try to keep my eye out for a fennin raid to piggy on to
Awesome idea for a series-thanks for doing it! Also a returnee after a couple decades away, and I’ve been loving Teek! Looking forward to your future conversations.
Just discovered your channel-love it! Returned to EQ for Teek after 20 years away and have been having a blast. I’m just a casual player, and I’ve got mad respect for what Faceless accomplishes-bravo all!

Good listen guys. Always fun to hear how most of our stories of getting into EQ are so similar. From a fellow guildy and long time EQ'er as well! ~ Stompzy
thanks Stompzy!
If I’ve gotten to level 60 on the WoW classic fresh servers by the time season 3 starts I’ll give this a shot. I’ve heard about this game and always wanted to give it a try
do it you won’t regret it…just give yourself an hour to get used to the feel…take it slow…and you’ll be golden…there’s tons of depth to this gem of a game. Also the people that play are mostly mature and well intentioned
the combat in this game is rivaled by no other. a lot of melee weapon styles are positional and reactionary. it's great. I have yet to find another combat system in another mmo since daoc came out, that matches or is up to the standards of this one. There is no button mashing.
Just remember when you get steamed rolled a lot of these dudes are higher end millennials/boomers who've been playing this game for 20+ years So hang in there 👍
@ lol thanks dude

Luckily in the launcher, you can set the UI up how you like it, and then use that UI for every character afterward.
I’m gonna have to find this… I didn’t know we could do that
@@insidethemindseye1 just pick the source character, then pick the character that you want to apply it to, then make sure u tick the copy action bars and apply. viola. U have to log into the actual game once with the new character u created tho, before they will show up in the character list

EQ may trend again some day, and content like this would be important. I'm sad that the game conversation has moved to Discord. The game feels more lively when people are utilizing the game as a chat room rather than a third-party program. I get it though. It is an efficient program for communication.
yea that’s a good point…back in the early days, Everquest was the social media
Well, even back in the day, the forums were huge. I was a RP’er on Firiona Vie, and there’d always be dozens of people logged into the unofficial server forum (ezBoard), day and night, posting and chatting.
No timestamps ...so yeah.
Welcome my son❤️😁was a siddhartha movie in the early seventies as well. Book nor movie a ticket to enlightenment though they do increase the thirst. Thirst is the key.

The greatest piece of recorded music in history. They will play CTTE 200 YEARS from now

I love this video too much
Hello myself
Very interesting and thoughtful. Lots to digest.
I have been listened to Close to the Edge since I was 12 ( 1972), this album no matter how many times I listen to it, no matter what version, Studio, Live Recording, Live in Concert present in front of the band, it gives me chills as Jon sings the last verse. Funny enough that in the early 1970 the book siddhartha by Herman Hess was so popular my sister had it an I borrowed it and read it maybe a year or so before listening to CTTE the first time. I did not equate both record and book at the time, but later on in late 70s I read an interview with Jon where he said the record was inspired by Siddhartha and I was blown away of how both Book and record had made such impact in my life. To this date Close to the Edge for me is almost a relegious experience. No matter how many times I have listened to it always makes me feel whole. Thank you for sharing your experience, I will share this video with my YES fan friends, so they can enjoy it as much as I did.
beautiful 🙏
@@insidethemindseye1 sorry for all the typos and bad grammar I was half asleep when I wrote it.
Ladies and gentlemen Chris Squire and YES the greatest show on earth ✨️🎶🙏🎶✨️
" I saw Hermann Hesse. He was not an enlightened one, what to say about those who have gone beyond enlightenment. He was just an ordinary human being, but in a poetic flight he has written one of the greatest books in the world, Siddhartha. Siddhartha is really the name of Gautama the Buddha, given to him by his parents. He became known as Gautam Buddha. Gautama was his family name; Buddha simply means ‘the awakened’. Siddhartha was the real name given by his parents in consultation with the astrologers. It is a beautiful name. Siddhartha also means ‘one who has attained to the meaning’. Siddha means ‘one who has attained’; artha means ‘the meaning’. Combined together Siddhartha means ‘one who has come to the meaning of life’. The astrologers, the parents, the people who gave him this name must have been wise people - if not enlightened, at least wise...worldly-wise at least. Hermann Hesse’s Siddhartha repeats the story of Buddha in a different way, but in the same dimension, with the same meaning. It is unbelievable that Hermann Hesse could write it but could not become a siddha himself. He remained a poor writer. Yes, a Nobel Prize winner, but that does not matter that much. You cannot give a Nobel Prize to a buddha; he will laugh and throw it away. But the book is immensely beautiful."
very cool
informative video, thanks, have seen yes a few times in concert. Its river 'tems' btw, thats how its pronounced, silent h.
man I’d have loved to see em in concert doing the close to the edge album
I recommend that you watch the movie "Little Buddha". Bertolucci rarely disappoints. While somewhat flawed, the emotion is palpable. As for books that make you cry, give "Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance" a try. Ripped right through me. It's interesting that you found the connection between the two works. Never occurred to me. What do I know? I get up. I get down. Be well. JT
nice, I’ll check it out
"A lot of things can't be understood intellectually but only by having experienced it emotionally. So it is something communicated that can't be known only felt." Thanks these are the words I've been looking for, as to why I like the emotion behind some music such as Van Morrison's Astral Weeks, whilst other people regard it as rubbish.
van Morrison is a perfect example of this
Well, this is certainly a mashup I never would have expected! Next up: Four Noble Topographic Oceans? lol!
lol
Brilliant. I would say it is largely based on the life of Siddhartha (Prince Siddhartha Guatama was the first Buddha, not someone he met), but there is a whole lot more. Reference to physics laws, cosmology, Christianity… All there. All of life ❤
'Fragile' on through to 'Going For The One' are the classic run of Yes albums. Chris Squire & Alan White were so good. The others are still with us - great band in all line the ups. Ps - River Thames is pronounced "Tems" - nice post
thanks!
And the "th" in "Siddhartha" is also a "t" sound--though in the U.S. it is usually pronounced with a soft "th" sound as you pronounced it. The Thames River in Connecticut, however, is pronounced with a soft "th" sound and a “long a" sound: "thaymz" (rhymes with James instead of "gems").
You're excluding The Yes Album???
you missed THE YES ALBUM.
