I stayed at a BB in Skye and tried cycling around Applecross. Never again, the abuse was unbelievable.

I drive most of this route daily, Ive caught so many emptying their chemical toilets in laybys and fly tipping their trash. Dont get me started on the bloody tailbacks they cause. Then there is the car/bike clubs that use the route as a racetrack. Every summer there is fatalities on this route, with the bikers + cars racing.

Then we don’t go to Scotland we’ll stop and explore the beautiful Lake District instead

Well when tourism drops, footfall drops in towns and villages. Councils will realize how much they rely on these tourists. I feel sorry for locals who rely on this trade for income .

Fortunately we toured Scotland before the place got swamped with campers and motorhomes. We won't be going back.

The NC500 has become a Theme Park. Don't bother going between the middle of June and the end of August.

Given up camper vans. It's become a blight , so it appears. Too many restrictions, site fees escalated plus high fuel costs. It's no longer viable. It's easier to use a hotel or rent a static. My days are numbered.

When it costs 20 pounds a night for a tent,plus 5 pounds a day to plug in an extension lead=750 pounds a month,walk away and find something else to do..

The perpetrators probably don’t give a toss about the damage they are doing to the environment, local community and the reputation of the responsible motorhoming community. Pay for a campsite! Another major issue. The roads weren't built for these heavy vehicles and need to be paid for. We're all going to end up being taxed to go there.

I agree with everything you've said in the video. However, since the NC500 has been overly advertised by social media and the Scottish Tourism Board, greedy hotels, camp sites and motorhome facilities all along the North Coast have nearly trebled in price. Resentment is also buildng among genuine tourists.

The joy of motorhomes and campervans is being able to go where you want and feel free. Obviously, not in Scotland any more. Was a beautiful place to be.

Well parking on private land , or on common land , car parks on forest walks , and the dumping of sewage cartridges from caravan or motor homes , is common place due to a lack of places in camp sites , and a lack of council toilets on the 500 , but people travel all year round , the toilets are closed in the winter , a select number of people make money , the cost of everything from food to parking is increased on the 500 , a fish supper up to £17 yes £17 , all because of the select few talking the money !

The motor home and camper van scene has become all elite so I shall not join the club so to speak.

At the Harrogate Fully Charged show earlier this year there was a SAIC Maxus motor home. I was a one off and for sale at around £50k.

I live near Dunnet site in the Highlands ,not many takers caravan club site ,Yes highland Council lease it but we Council tax payers Paid for it ,now we are expected to pay a parking fee. I understand your plight but we get virtually nothing for our Ctx all the money goes to Inverness (125 miles away) No potholes there and we pay the same amounts/bands.

I have read some of the comments below and I HAVE to say I think the Caravan Club has become a money grabbing corporation , it is certainly not a club, we have recently come back from Scotland, we stayed in Bunree CC site First thing that was wrong is the wardens did not seem to know what pitches where ocupied , went to a pitch that was supposd to be vaciant and was not, went to anoth pitch . and another , all OCUPIED . To cap it all we have issues on our electric hookup post , ( I was told they where test 2 weeks ago) our socket would not allow the breaker to stay in, used the pitches next to it to test with permission from the pitch user, ne was ok about it, ALL ok so it was our particular socket , call the warden down , he came with a tester plug in - nothing he wiggles it about and managed to get the pin or something to pop out , or so he told me , eventally managed to get it to work , he then said to me it must be your plug, NO I said , or it would not work on the other socket, I could not believe it when he said I HAD an attitude problem because I was complaining , well for £40.00 / night , Yes I am complaining . All in all it is HIGHLY lightly we will NOT be renewing as well - It has become from what I can see GREEDY RIP OFF

We did the NC500 in June. Stayed at caravan parks every night...apart from a pubstop first night. Didn't book..but no problems staying on the sites.

The CAMC have lost the plot. It is no longer a club and the staff at the East Grinstead head office don't seem to have a clue about motorhomes or caravans. There are now better private sites with less silly restrictions and lower costs. The CL network is excellent but the large 'club' owned sites are doomed unless they make some radical changes.

Monstrosity nuisance on tour

Camper vans & caravans are the curse of our lives here around the NC500. Anything that reduces their numbers is to be welcomed. Campervanners & caravanners contribute little to the communities which they blight whereas genuine campers, walkers & hotel guests do both interact positively & contribute financially.

I’m selling my caravan because of the total greedy piggy’s who own these sites all you get is a patch of grass or gravel or concrete a clubhouse which makes a fortune and toilets that may or not be clean and the amount that they want is really ridiculous also you pay yourself for gas and electricity b&b is cheaper

Councils damage local businesses’ trade by banning overnighting. The councils could install pay machines and charge maybe £10 for 24 hours. Those 100 vans would make the council £1,000 A DAY! And 100 vans in a town could make the local businesses maybe an EXTRA £50,000 A DAY from campervanners!

Ive been thinking about getting a campervan for a while however the bad press they get around the nc500 ,the reason why i would like one was to see more of our beautiful country ,i pay road tax shouldnt have to pay another tax, apart from site fees .where will these stealth taxes ever stop.

It's the waste dumping at the parking spots. This is why they don't like over-night parking.

We stayed at their excellent site at Christal Palace last November. We joined simply to save about £150 on a 10 night booking. We very seldom use campsites and usually stealth camp in our Berlingo Microcamper. For that reason we won’t be renewing even though they do run lovely sites as we haven’t stayed with them once since. BTW we did create a vlog about that site on our channel ‘just for the weekend van life’.

Right now I’m on a site called Ponds Farm near Gainsborough (you need to be self contained) at £10 per night.

A guy near where I live removes the wheels off his van while it is in storage, and covers the hubs - it effectively sits on blocks of wood - oddly no one has stolen it to date. Should have added - the parking scheme using car parks should be set against individual car parks - similar to Northumberland - perhaps if they said £10 a night at each carpark - and free access to waste facilities - that would be fairer in comparison to campsites, who will offer the shower and other elements. Then you have a clear choice, a night in the van, and you can safely decant your waste - or a night on a campsite. As with many things, it seems poorly thought through - rather than consider the way to raise revenues easily - remember in some communities, the local community may create new problems with campers parked in carparks legitimately - even though they were previously empty carparks out of hours - and wont care you are paying to be there.

This is the Very reason why the local villagers living on the route detests any and All self entitled camper vanners they All park were the like always dumping All rubbish and Human waste anywhere that's easy for them not respecting the locals treating the place like their local landfill sites, a little more respect would get the camper vanners the same in return

We truly think that it is not worth Motorhomeing in England anymore as costs are getting worse, £55 is not the most we have seen for a pitch but while people still pay it then it won't change, how can the (campsites) charge all that for a price of grass just to park on for the night....Europe is best as we are well catered for and not greedy English campsite owners and as for discounts from said clubs forget it most need closing down for what they charge and don't give you in this country.
