I love this movie for all the reasons you listed. And the dialogue with the score gets me every time.
Glad to hear you liked it too!
One of my favorite Carpenter films. Effective blend of science fiction and horror (I'm more of a science fiction fan).
@@raymondmasullo3386 Glad you loved it too , what are your favourite scifi horror movies ?
I love the word "ordah"
Glad to hear 🎉
Polanski's casting is always impeccable. I don't even know how they find these actors that seem to suit their roles so well.
Absolutely!
I can't agree with you more, I really enjoyed this film.
@@matthewmulkeen Great minds think alike!
If it were remade, Louis Cyphre would have to be played by Rufus Sewell. Why? Read his name backwards. (Insert evil laugh for dramatic effect) I know I've seen Angel Heart but oddly don't recall much of it. Time for a rewatch.
Rewatch away! Good catch with Rufus Sewell!
@@InAwe9000 I wouldn't mind a $5k cane, very spiffy, but eggs make me sick. If you're familiar with the writer Castenada and his references to the 'luminous egg', it could be that is the egg that Louis C was consuming.
@@gandfgandf5826 Haha, I don't like eggs either, the ones I used for the intro were the first ones I ever boiled.
Bloody love this film, cheers🍷
Glad you loved it too! Such a hidden gem!
Love this movie. Really enjoyed this video. You deserve way more views, but I appreciate you making these deep dives on such niche films. I’ve searched for videos on a few of these movies for a while, and you’re covering a lot of what I’ve been wanting to see. Thanks for the effort! Will definitely keep watching what you put out.
@@milkweedreflections Thanks man! Do share my stuff around, having so low views is a bit disheartening, especially in this one 😌
Your comment at the end about the plot being difficult to understand reminded me how I felt when I saw this the first time. I was baffeled... I remeber liking it and the same time I was left unsettled and confused. You gave me a flash back from over 30 years ago. Thanks for that, I guess???
Excellent essay about an excellent movie - thanks!
Thank you for watching!
Far ahead of its time. Not afraid to expose evil that hiding in plain sight amound supposedly politce society. Makes a mockery of do gooder regular old protagonists and traditional heroic nonsense. Exposes the evil that average people are easily capable of.
Happy Halloween , Fantastic analysis of a hidden gem .... Rourke was at his peak of charisma , the film built the tension and never allows you a break , excellent choice for review
Thank you so much! Do share it around if you wish to support, its not getting many views…
@@InAwe9000 , I will, it is excellent
@@crumdub12 Thank you so much <3 Im terrible at marketing and my viewers sharing my videos is basically the only way they ever get attention. So thanks, a bunch.
Angel Heart is one of the greatest stories ever made and is so underrated. Rourke = Fantastic. DeNiro = freaking scary. One of the most twisted stories I have ever seen. Cheers.
Glad you loved it too!

Thanks! Welcome aboard!
a wonderful film but i thought the red eyes was stupid & took from the film.
Yes I also disliked it!
I had this film spoiled for me before I saw it, so in theory it had no surprises for me. Boy was that wrong. I was enthralled. It may be the best horror movie ever made, in my opinion. The encroaching dread of finding out who Johnny Favorite be is one of the most gut twisting experiences I've had. Alan Parker was brilliant, such a versatile director. And the cast is great.
@@TheBeird Glad you loved it too!

Imagine The Thing and Big Trouble In Little China, two of the coolest and in the case of The Thing best, movies ever made - derailing your career!!!
Yeah it is very ironic, can't really blame Carpenter for getting frustrated with Hollywood...
Big fan of this, and Rourke was never better. Long overdue for another viewing from me.
Glad you liked it too!
Everything you choose to review is in my top twenty. We should be e-friends. Amazing series, and the deep dive research and analysis is so very appreciated. Great work! The Scarlet Gospels is an outstanding, over the top closure book to the Hellraiser canon. I loved it.

@InAwe9000 I'll mention a few of my all time favorites. Day of the Dead (1985) In The Mouth Of Madness Pet Sematary (1988) As Above, So Below Ravenous
@@adx442the next video… is on this list…
@InAwe9000 Haha, great minds, indeed. Serpent and the Rainbow and Jacob's Ladder were two I remembered after my initial reply. Jacob's Ladder stayed with me for years in both imagery and philosophy, in particular.
I recall seeing "Angel Heart" in a theater in the 80s and not liking it much. I was on a date, it was confusing, and dark, and creepy. I came to appreciate it later with re-watches over the years, usually by video rentals. Really like it now, and all the details that once confused me have become fascinating.
Did your date at least work out?
@@InAwe9000 Yes. I married him.
@@SMtWalkerSNot a total loss for a theatre visit then 😂
Agreed, Angel Heart has all the markings of a film classic. But it's also unpleasant to watch which makes the script feel more cluttered than it actually is, I think. I saw it when it came out and then again years later, and I'll probably never watch it again. But it sticks with you, for all the reasons you give. Rourke's career topping performance certain chief among them. And to this day I cannot look at a fan and not feel some portent of a looming Hell.
Glad you liked it! This movie ruined fans for me too!
I was just rewatching this movie again this weekend! One of Johnny Depp's best! I keep hoping for a Director's or Producer's Unrated Extended Cut. Can't get enough of Lena Olin! Of course, Emmanuelle Seigner is a nice bonus, as well, as the Archangel!
Lena is to my taste too. Grrr.
If you're into Harry D'Amor, read Everville, a sequel to Great and Secret Show
Currently still on Scarlet Gospels, but will make a note of it!
@@InAwe9000 Whacha think of Scarlett Gospels? It had mixed response, I had some MAJOR issues with it, but still enjoyed the story
@@markpaterson2053 I think it was a bit convoluted. I really liked the beginning, with the group of magicians and Pinhead's gory visit, but after that it did not hit that hard. Personally I like the idea that the cenobite-dimension is just another dimension, where sensation is amplified to the max. I dont like the idea that it is as mundane as "hell", and I never liked to think it that way to be honest, and now with Lucifer and Hell-Cities and... I dont know, kinda takes the edge away. Still enjoying it though.
@@InAwe9000 Ditto, Hell was such a disappointment, even to Barker himself; remember the chapter when we don't see anything during a journey, we just hear the events in hell? Plus, Pinhead as a rapist? I think Barker really dislikes his most famous villain, he never really had any love for Pinhead, a name he loathed just as he wrote Pinhead to loath his own name. And Lucifer...? It got a bit confusing at the end, trying to bridge the Cenobyte's version of hell with Biblical hell
@@markpaterson2053 Exactly!
Gonna be the first to admit this movie was a bit of a disappointment compared to the short story, which had many cool things that don't happen in the tv show of the week movie. Seriously, the movie was more like an episode of something, whereas the short was epic. Just my opinion, don't bother attacking it as I won't bother biting back. Barker is a great writer, mediocre director (save the brilliant Hellraiser, which he NAILED!).
Sorry if you did not like it! Not for everyone, but there is room for all opinions 🫡
@@InAwe9000 Feeling a bit dumb here, I decided to rewatch it, half way through and admit I'm quite enjoying it. With movies sucking today, it's nice to see something that had genuine care behind it.
@@markpaterson2053Cool, good to hear! Sometimes it just about the mood you watch the movie in!
I saw the ads for this movie on TV and it looked so cool I saw it in the theater very soon after it opened. I am seldom that excited about seeing a movie. I think Suzi was my date, hottie.
Lucky you! Luckily, the local theater chain holds classic movie viewings on awkward days and on awkward days. A week from now, I finally get the chance to see the original Nightmare on Elm Street (1984) on a theater...
This movie exists in the 4k timeline and I will die on that hell! Errr hill!
