    In fiber laser controllers the z axis don't run on pulse & dir signal. The z axis run on an analog signal,so I don't think it will work for you with a stepper motor.

    Aliexpress has lots of choices for low cost AC servo kits. Also gear reducers. Got one (750W) months ago for evaluation, seems quite well made. Thanks for another DIY industrial automation fix, cool project.

  • @diyfiberlaser
    @diyfiberlaser День назад

    For those steppers with a 5:1 reducer, if I've done the math right, you will need a 75mm root circle diameter on your spur gear to hit 70M/min, it looks like that's going to be a 50 tooth spur gear at module 1.5

      @@robbroomfield468 i went nema 34 8nm closed loops, 5 to 1 reduction and i think around 18 tooth pinion from memory on a 1.5mod rack and could push over 40 meters a minuite, great acceleration still, 70 will certainly be pushing them. but will be amazing to see a big gantry at those speeds. i only ran them on 60 volt though so could get more out of them yet i think.

    Only 3 thousand pounds or 4 thousand USD is crazy inexpensive for a fiber laser. China is undercutting the market by huge margins. Made in USA, quality laser sources might go up to 30 thousand USD for like 2 or 2.5 kW. That's usually just for the laser module, too. A full unit with a QBH cable, data acquisition, and control boards is much more than 30 USD.

    • @robbroomfield468
      @robbroomfield468 14 дней назад

      Hi That is just the laser source

    • @RockyPondProductions
      @RockyPondProductions 14 дней назад

      @robbroomfield468 What I mean is a fiber laser module (actual laser source) will cost nearly 30k USD alone if you buy an American one. That's literally just the opticial resonator. It doesn't include any of the needed controls, power supply, or QBH cable. Used IPG lasers that are full usable units at 1kW and over 10 years old sell for 5 to 10 times what China sells a new 3 kW for. It is honestly impressive how they pull that off. Labor is so cheap there.

    Thanks for the video, Rob. Sorry to hear things haven't been going so well for you but I do hope things pick up soon. Since updating my plasma cutter, I've been struggling with water splashing onto the new machine torch and causing 'material detection errors', so I've had to lower the water table quite a bit. Lukasz sent me a MyOhmic unit a while ago but I haven't installed it yet (I have a new/bigger electrical cabinet, to replace my current one). After seeing you splash water onto your machine torch and the program continues to cut like it should, I'll be getting onto my new electrical cabinet and installing the MyOhmic sensor unit. What sensitivity setting have you got yours on, please...or is it a bit of trial and error? Regards from Australia!

    Hey Rob, just wanted to say I appreciate the candid videos you put out it's good to just have someone lay it out without all the frills. On the off chance you haven't looked into it you can get SBR20/25 Bellow Covers that will go over the top of your linear rails and bolt to your bearings to protect them from the spatter and they're relatively cheap might be worth a squiz if you're getting sick of replacing the bearings every 6 months. Cheers for the content
