Absolutely, correct: my base coat is a darker shade of what my main coat will be. However, in the style I use I try not to completely cover the edges with any of the coats so the black primer shows a little underneath. The main coat and the highlight are both closer to the centre (or just above the centre depending on where you want the light to be strongest) which helps with a gradual gradient all the way to the darker edges. It may not be realistic, but I find it really pleasing to look at :)

Understandable! I like 1/100 kits too, but in the end it comes down to a storage space issue for me. Also, after I'm finished working on a kit it's nice to have a little guy that just fits in my hand haha. Just something fun I like about the hobby.

Ooo! That's an awesome idea! I came up with a couple mod solutions for the wings, and we chatted in the discord about some other methods. I'm not sure if I'll end up executing them, it depends on how I want to display the kit.

Perhaps it differs region to region, but I've always been able to find them online for less than $30 in my country's currency. For the use I get out of them, I'm more than happy to pay.

Neither was I, but Im always practicing! If you ever want to get into it, try modifying cheaper kits or old ones you don't really care much about :)

Pretty much all of the P-Bandai G-Unit kits look like they should be in the Astray series. Either it's the same designer or someone being a bit liberal with the source material.

In my cabinet, all my kits do the standing Katoki pose so I can see all the work I've done on them, which means they have to be posed symmetrically. The problem with separating the front skirts is also the boon of doing so, i.e. they don't sit symmetrically and are easy to knock off centre. It's something I used to do a lot, but found that unless I want to photograph the kit in a specific pose that requires it, it just looks a little too messy for my tastes.

I find the hardest part for finding suitable hands for older Wing/G Gundam/etc kits from that era are the size. The Build Fighters Kaku (square) hands are alright, as they come with 3 different sizes. Personally, I'd get in touch with someone like HeavyWeaponsSystems (hwsystems.ca) or Weston Harris and ask about getting some hands printed in a smaller size. Just make sure you measure the diameter of the ball joint they need!

Glad you like it! It's primed in Mr. Surfacer 1500 Black. All the white parts were then base coated in Mr. Color 74 (Air Superiority Blue), then sprayed with 2 thin coats of Mr. Color 69 (Off White), with very small areas near the top of the model highlighted with pure white. The grey areas were base coated with Mr. Color 37 (Gray Violet). The yellow parts were primed in pink and painted with Mr. Color 109 (Character Yellow). The red parts are painted with a random mixture from my overflow red jar, but looks enough like Mr. Color (G-Color line) RX-78-2 Gundam red.

@@OliverPewPewPew The version that has the pilot figure has extra artwork on the front of the box of the pilot of the mobile suit. It’s basically a standing figure that’s molded in a skin colored polystyrene. You’ll see a close up of the character’s face on the front of the box. I hope that that’ll help you find them if you try to get a hold of them.
