    Thanks dearly for this :) By now, I've watched a few of your videos, but this one has played over and over. I'm currently using a Dark Matter for feedback duties and a Ruina Versio for end-of-chain distortion on my drums rack, and I was already considering swapping them for a 200 grit setup such as yours, but now the mid-side thing completely got me going. Don't you get any phase issues when mixing the grits back with the dry signal? What about the Data Bender? I'm asking because I was running the B output of my mixer into DB and then mixing it with the dry signal using an xfade. This was really fun, but there was some sort of micro-delay somewhere, because you could definitely hear the phase issues (mostly on kick, snare and hats). I recently tried making the volume on the DB a bit lower in relation to the dry signal, which makes this issue less noticeable. I also use Data Bender mostly for mids and highs, so I mostly keep the kick out of its path, but I'm considering using Divikid's Stereo Strip to tame both the DB's volume and EQ, so maybe I'll be able to fit the kick back in. The Zazgreb was a great idea though. Have you ever experienced such phase issues when mixing signals back together? How did you deal with that? Sorry for the rant and thanks again, keep up the good music and videos ! :)

    • @thismeanswarbasse
      @thismeanswarbasse 27 дней назад

      @@lifeisavicnic I’ve had a few comments about phase issues people have heard, but I haven’t heard them myself. I also only listen via headphones or in the car for the most part, so some of the mid side mono issues aren’t ones I run into. It probably helps with the amount just general chaos and noise in the signal that I’ve got typically that I might hear a phase issue and just think of it as another texture 🤷‍♂️ Data Bender gets weird sometimes but I can’t really identify what specifically is causing it. Usually I think it’s just my own error or over use of its Break or feedback patching with the matrix mixer.

    For me, recording into a daw is a requirement. I mostly use my modular to create samples, which then become the foundation for a lager track in Ableton. Recently ive lowered my barrier-to-entry-for-patching by just keeping everything else permanently set up. I've stopped storing my system on a shelf -- now it lives on top of the shelves, which i stand at to play. The patch cables no longer live in a bag, but in an open box right next to the system. My audio interface is permanently connected to modular, since i rarely use it to record anything else. Ive even taken to storing my laptop next to the system. All i have to do in preparation for a patch is launch ableton, plug my interface into the computer, and power on the modular. To anyone else who relies on a daw for recording, id highly recommend letting your system take over a surface (if you can spare one). I patch about a bajillion percent more than i did when i kept everything stored away. I was thinking recently about getting the wav recorder, but i think it would actually hinder my creative process more than helping it. It would be a little easier to start patching, but then loading those samples into Ableton would become the chore. But its nice to see it doing its job well for folks with different workflows!

    Hey man old video but does a matrix mixer work in the same way and more as say send and returns on a general mixer? For example, does a matrix mixer allow for making a 2nd copy of the original dry track you want to effect to send to an fx module and back and have parallel processing like a general send and return or does the circuity just blend the signals together? Trying to decide on whether to get an expensive mixer just to have the stereo send and returns. Hate wet/dry mix knob on anything. The fx and dry track never sound good with serial processing to me compared to parallel.

    • @thismeanswarbasse
      @thismeanswarbasse Месяц назад

      yes and yes. I've got two of these now and can't go back to traditional mixers. The creative control and feedback possibilities, making copies of a stereo signal then looping that back in or reordering stereo parallel fx chains are all so baked into how I work because of this thing that its become essential. A super simple patch would be if you had just a single stereo signal - you can create 4 copies of it, send 3 to different fx (fully wet), patch those back in and then mix them back with the remaining dry signal and have a single channel out with your final mix. From there though, you could choose to route the output of FX 1 into FX 2 (and etc etc), either instead of the dry copy or blended with it, all without repatching.

    Thanks! So inspiring to hear your thoughts behind the one million choices you get when you design a eurorack setup. Previously I had only seen your L-R 100 grit setup, which made me realize I could get halfway there using my single 100 grit in the side-channel of my lrmsmslr. Felt pretty smug about not having to buy another one. Now I see the benefits of also running one in the mid channel :/ Regarding morphagene: not familiar with that module, but it looks like there's an attenuated cv-input. Would it help to patch that up, so you have a bit of a wider sweet spot? It looks like you have a channel of duatt available for this. Might as well take the offending knob off so it's less likely you bump into it.
