What Filmmakers can Learn from Inception
With respect, it's not where Blender is, it's where it's going.
because it free other company hate it because it s free they use the same bs they use demo party vs repub party
0:11 Intuitive? INTUITIVE?!! 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 Jakob Nielsen would have a heart attack seeing Blender. This thing has some of the most unintuitive UI in the entire history of software. Every command is basically middle-click + F27, then turn the water heater valve to adjust. Even Maya and 3DS Max have more intuitive UI, and that's a very, very low bar. Blender is great, but it's certainly not intuitive.
I worked in a Studio for 4 years before quitting to do youtube... The Biggest Reason we didn't touch blender was, we didn't use vanilla Maya. Over the course of 10 years, the studio made and bought plugins, that what was important for the pipeline. Just moving that to blender would cost SO MUCH more money. FYI no one hates Blender, everyone actually loves it, and the Studio always has a someone from every department testing what can we switch, how easy it would be to write a particular plugin for it. It's not that studios don't switch softwares or are stuck on Maya. Mid project we switched to houdini as the sims just looked batter, behaved better and there was so much control. And maya or Max with Fume Fx where no where near the Fidelity. We were being paid our full salaries while we learned Houdini It was the same with Nuke
It may be these big industry users will be caught out like car makers have been dominating old dying ICE cars and losing their entire existence by not leading the changes to EVs. Tapping into the vast Blender user base and lower costs, in workers too. Time will tell.
Blender, the jack of all trades but a master of none. All these new artist who uses Blender are so overwhelm for what Blender can do but the truth is they are stuck and never tried to go out of the box, they just giving a raw conclusion that blender is the best. Immaturity is dumbness.
Thank you to the creator of blender Ton, we all love you sir 🫶
Blender has an intuitive UI??? What kind of mushrooms have you been smoking?
I briefly looked on blenders website, and it seems that Blender partnered with canonical (company behind ubuntu) in 2021 to give enterprise support. I wonder how good that support is in comparision to other 3d software. I also wonder that since blender is often chosen by small studios, whether in something like 20 years there will be a change in the market. Or maybe when the studios get bigger they will stop using blender and nothing will change.
Truth is: Autodesk 3D software is on extinction path... just as Modo termination notice has been recently announced.
Honest, thank you.
I really appreciate it!
Erm... they don't.
The content chase is real this is not a thing anymore
i use blender as my main and i love it and i'm incredibly happy with it, that said i just feel like it's just the software where you need the most amount of clicks to do stuff, and if you want to be more efficient you need to spend money of add ons to kinda have "some" funcionality that other program has, add ons made by single developers that could or could not continue developing the add on at any point for any reason, and at the core blender feels like it doesnt have the horsepower YET to rival other programs. now that modo is discontinued OMG how would i wish the blender could absorb the best of modo, that would be just the best thing to ever happen to 3d.
Garbage are the VFX of "Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga" hahaha... Point being, I think quality comes more from the user than from the tool
with all respect but I just stopped watching ur video at 4:15. it's not garbage at all.
One man's trash is another man's treasure
there is one reason, and one reason only...Budget, when you actually understand business and how tax brackets work then you'll understand why companies can't switch from paid to free software
I used blender for 3 years it's a good software but the problem thats it's slow really slow it's cant handle big geometry, and simulation is bad, and it's not pipeline friendly, thats why I switched to houdini, but it's good.
Blender is fast and intuitive?, hahahaha.
Why studios ignore blender? Try export and importing fbx files, good luck 😉
well, I think it's the same as cad software. Your company is married with the software they use. Breaking up the marriage leaves you with a whole lot of assets and other stuff that normally was reusable, but than becomes instantly worthless.
Out all of the 3d software out there, 3dsMax has THE BEST and easiest UI to work with. All other software, Maya, Blender, and even real time render engines like Unity and Unreal engine have a massively complicated UI that just takes massive mental effort to learn (because there are multiple steps to take before you can actually do a given function - whereas in Max, its right there). I would have less issues with other software if they all just used same UI like Max for example which is ridiculously easy to use.
what a clickbait picture... (the one with "actual trash" label with blender logo)
By the time Blender does get good enough for studio use (ignoring the lack of support issue), real time engines like Unreal will be just as capable of producing film quality effects. We're talking years down the line, but it's going to take Blender that long to match the feature quality of the big 4.
The service aspect is the main reason. If I have a $400 million film project that is on a tight deadline to release, and there's a bug that is making the lights in my scene flicker, I don't have time to reach out to the community to try to find a workaround, I don't have time to wait for some open source dev to take the time out of their schedule to fix it for free, which could take months if not longer... I need a developer on the line with me today, working with me to isolate the cause, and if needed, send me a patch to get me back on my feet so I can deliver to the client on time.
As an old guy I can´t use blender, it still smells bad
youtube being used as an example for "tons of support" is a stab in the back for those looking for tutorials only to find people using older versions and plugins they didnt tell us about xD (good vid btw)
blending knowledge using blender JACK OF ALL TRADES LOLZA SOOMMOOS
at 1:22 "it was slow..." showing an SGI Indy running something other than blender
While I agree about other modeling software, I think Blender is better than 3ds Max in every aspect. I haven't used 3ds Max for a long time and maybe it improved since then, but I remember it as hot garbage that kept constantly crashing with my Editable Poly workflow.
At least Blender works on my PC, unlike Autodesk's overpriced piece of garbage.
Blender is great, but intuitive it is not. Like Unity the UI is illogical and a mess. I prefer AOI which uses a 3d Studio Max type of UI that is actually intuitive.
Intuitive? I don't think it's particularly intuitive, they don't even use standard mathematical geometry for example. But it is free and very capable so I'm happy to be able to use it even if it is weird as.
I remember before Blender 2.8 I didnt understand anything on how to use it. I worked with Maya / 3ds max for about 4 years, but the day Blender 2.8 appeared, I switched immediately. It's just too good compared to Autodesk for me, just because of all the shortcuts you have and how you can 100% customize them to your liking. I didn't find a job Blender related though, so to me today it's a choice of being a masochist working with 3ds max but having a job, or actually liking your job using blender but being jobless.
pro at yapping
We just love blender..... Team blender ❤❤❤
I been using blender for about 15 years and and I am quite well knowledge with Maya too I would say I Blenders Rigging system is far better to Maya which I find to be shit, but I like Maya's animation system wish there was a way to combine both. There are a lot of reason why most are not found of Blender I find that It is time and pride. People tend to run before they can even crawl it takes time and people are too impatient
These are decent reasons (not bad, but not great either). I used to work in an animation studio. Two main reasons studios use these software, and I'll speak for Maya specifically is customizability and for the scale of large projects. So one, you can customize Maya and build proprietary tools for your studios workflow. And Two, the big reason, Maya is just built for the pipeline. You have to think of the scale of studios. These are networks of workstations and render farms. And they all have to work together seamlessly, you don't want any downtime or to lose productivity because of any kind of hiccup. I just started messing with Blender and I like it so far, but I haven't seen either of these capabilities.
Pretty sure the movie Flow that’s coming out soon is made in Blender and it looks amazing
What version was light linking added?
I believe it was blender 4.0
At first, I thought, how is this young guy going to give this subject a fair chance? I have used 3ds Max for over twenty years and have watched and, in a sense, studied the industry along the way. I do think you did a good job up to the rendering part. Here, you didn’t even mention the options for installing Vray, F-storm, and Corona, which must be considered when talking about plugins. The second thing is the comment on the Maya video; it shouldn’t even be a topic. It could be hardware-specific or other issues not related to the software. Otherwise, good job. I have installed Blender, and I am excited about it.
I'm glad you think my comparison was fair. That's exactly what I aimed to be. This isn't a perfect comparison, nor am I the best artist, but I appreciate your comment.
Blender is not bad, but not a single person studio making movie from blender, blender need some big examples movies to showcase, if a new movie comes with blender vfx, then blender is going to use for professional use
I come from a big arch viz studio and we are leaving autodesk to start using blender for modeling and animation happily :)
actually blender is used everywhere now this clickbait title is getting old
Blender is really good at fast modeling and making game assets. It's never going to be a central pipeline tool, but plenty of 3D artists are allowed to use it in game studios for making assets. It all ends up in Maya anyways.
blender is beautiful it makes every other software look ugly
Thats like saying "hardware manufacturers hate C++" because they still use old C...its always about cost/effort to redesign a pipeline for little to no practical gain
Where did you get the ownership battle crap from? If you mean product owners that paid for Blender Publisher (the Paid for Blender version back then) you need to provide context.
