Hey! Not sure that anyone will see this... BUT I think UE5 is good, starting from small projects to very huge projects and its max rendering capabilities are 8k (maybe 12 or 16 k but it's very hard, and big scenes won't render in such resolutions). The main problem here would be Vram. UE5 doesn't accept 2 GPUs, so you are blocked with 1 GPU with 24 GB of Vram max... Sure you can buy a6000, but from what I heard it's much slower (x2) than 4090. So it's a big problem. Blender on the other side is awesome for still images or very small projects and Ultra huge ones. When I'm saying about huge ones I'm saying about renders at least 8k+, more like 12k+ with enormous scenes and animations, and using render farms to make videos. No rendering a car with HDRi, more about rendering thousands of spaceships destructing and interacting with physics simultaneously. So the decision is up to you what to choose, but if you aren't expecting to render smth in 12k in the next years - choose UE5. You will save hundreds of hours for rendering. Really. For example, now I can render the scene with more than 1 000 000 000 polygons in 8k and 60 fps in 1 hour... You can check my channel if not believe me. Also the speed of creating environments and everything is xxxx faster than in Blender. Mainly because you have a ton of assets in 1 project and could use them all anytime (for example I have now 600+ Gb project files and typing "chair" gives me a choice from 200 meshes xd).
Sadge you didn't talk about comparion to Unreal Path Tracing rendering. Because Lumen while is great at real time game rendering it is still lacks at details, specifically at reflections, highlights and some other stuff. So you need to switch to path tracing in Unreal Engine if you want to make good quality rendering in that areas. And that where we can compare Unreal Path Tracing to Blender's Cycles. What I find mostly underrated is the ability to work with huge scenes inside Unreal Engine even WITHOUT Nanite (Nanite is actually pretty heavy, so your memory will tank), while Blender with huge city, for example, will be slow as hell to navigate. This is basically why I actually kinda strugle to choose where I want to layout and render my huge scenes.
Newbie question: now that many of these programs have some common file types/workflows, is there a way to render a scene made in Blender using Unreal? Or does that only work object by object right now?
You absolutely can! You have to import your scene into unreal, which can be time consuming, but there are lots of great tutorials that guide you through the process.
I enjoyed watching. I have played with both, however I think for interior scene design, I may invest more time with Unreal due to the integrated asset library & bounce over to blender to model custom objects. What are you thoughts on this?

Both are good it all comes down to the level of skills you hold if you're a newbie then unreal because of large assets and if you're a professional then definitely blender because of its wide range of tools ✨
@aryanherehii Thankyou. I'm currently using sketchup and vray/vantage. But recently thought about switching to Blender. Since unreal doesn't provide full range modelling tools (what I've heard) Blender seemed like a better choice. Now once I get familiar with Blender, do I need UE or is cycles and eeve enough for rendering? Why does one need unreal? Is Eeve comparable to chaos vantage or unreal in terms of quality? Sorry for asking so many questions.
UE5 gives you high quality real-time results it's not as good as an offline render (a render with Cycles in blender for example), but it's most definitely good enough for concept art and what-not
yepp i was not aware of that, never tried UE - but they are used for different reasons. UE is a cool and easy Worldbuildingsystem, everything is easy to arrange and to swap - it is very performant and has this insane Raytrace-like-Lumen-System that just looks awesomen and runs in realtime. But if you want to creat stuff from the very scratch instead of using already existing stuff from libaries....well Blender is the tool to create them. Modeling, rigging, animating, texturing and unwraping for the first time - setting this all up - this is what blender is for. You can of course do stuff in Blender aswell what UE is able to - but its a bit more harder to learn/execute and less performant......... To they are champs in their own league - and belong together as a team - no foes, but friends and teamplayers.
dude your stuff is amazing, I've been using blender for quite a while. but i kind of face some problems here and there, on the other hand, I see UE is a bit more suitable for me.
Although unreal has a great renderer the downside to unreal is that you can not use third party rendering engines but with blender you can. This includes renderman.
Nice video but it would have been helpful to look at some real world examples and weigh up which would be best. For example...If you want to composite a 3D train into a scene, you can't camera track in unreal but you can in blender etc and so on.
I intend to create content I intend to create content with CG environments and some effects, nothing very sophisticated and I want to create weekly content, so I need speed and things, objects, environments that are already ready and modifiable to use. Which two would you personally recommend?with CG environments and some effects, nothing very sophisticated and I want to create weekly content, so I need speed and things, objects, environments that are already ready and modifiable to use. Which two would you personally recommend?
I don't know about Blender, but Unreal and Houdini are one of the most OP combinations out there, you should definitely look into that if you are interested, or at the weary least check it out.
How much time do you think it'll take me until i master blender? I've been learning blender for 5 weeks now, i made multiple animations already and i can say that im now able to make simple animations on my own. But what about photorealistic stuff? Is it hard to master?
Blender is a medium of art and there is really no objective way to master art, but I made a whole video about that topic if you want to watch it. ruclips.net/video/enM0wjW6Izw/видео.html
5 weeks.... then you've learned maybe 5% of blender's potential. blender is so huge and evolving at such a pace, it's incredible. The same goes for the unreal engine of course.
Realtime workflow in unreal is what makes the difference blender is gd for modeling and geometry nodes but since we have now pipelines between the 2 softwares unreal is the deal for the final outcome
The comparison between these two doesn't really make much sense. because blender is a 3d package specifically focused on art, films etc and unreal is a game engine. so the tools and rendering techniques are going to differ by a huge margin, espacially unreal engine because it uses Real Time rendering techniques. however using both as combo makes more sense. like using blender for modeling & animation then sending it to Unreal for materials, VFX and Rendering sequences
For me im very new to this n hav started learning blender. Id like to learn ue5 to use them together but problem for me is the controls are totally different. Does anyone kno of a plug in or settings that would allow me to navigate in ue5 the way i do in blender? Would really help. Im literally a landscaper tryin to help my kids do some fun videos but blenders a lil slow and gets bogged down so easy im finding myself learning to cut corners more than anything else. N i gav a 4070ti which shuld b descent. Still ue5 has render speeds to b envied
i have to disagree on rendering . giving a point to UE on rendering is fine ...because exact reasons that you've made .....BUT THERE'S SOMETHING TO BE MENTIONED. to have that AWESOME RENDERING ( with speed ) ...IT TAKES SOME COMPUTING POWER. in other words ...YOU NEED A BEAST OF A COMPUTER JUST TO OPEN UNREAL without crashing immediately. while on the other hand i work quite flawlessly with EEVE ( with some adjustments of lights ).
Blender is clearly a winner in almost every aspect except its realtime renderer EEVEE. LUMEN is super powerful against EEVEE. At what cost? If you got a powerful gpu. For 3D artists, the only major advantage against blender is the realtime render in Lumen. However, most of 3d artists transport their scene from blender to unreal just for this reltime rendering. Besides these UE5 can handle 100X more geometry load than blender but thats not a huge deal for this case. I am using blender for almost 4 years and UE5 for almost 3 years. Both are superv engines and close to my workflow. Lets see if this video is valid for next few months as blender had introduced EEVEE NEXT. And it seems promising against LUMEN. Which might change the current workflow for realtime rendering.
Dude 743 subs. oh weit 744 Subs. You have a niche here. I suggest you demonstrate similar projects in Blender vs UE5. And how to create a workflow between both of them. I am completely new to the game. I started using UE5 to learn how game developement works. Then i quickly realise the creativity is the design. the functions in the game are not soooo crazy to accomplish. I had no idea about anything. Coding = Magic. so i wanted to do my first small game like i dont know even what its going to be. Just a simple game loop i dont know just getting started. but i want that it looks like my creation. I dont want to drop just some assets and lets go. i want to create them.
Comparing any 2D/3D editor/design software to a game engine is like comparing apples to oranges. A game engine can be 100,000 times more complex than Blender, Maya, or even Houdini.
Cool production style. Seems like ima model in blender then, maybe, create environments with unreal. At least that’s what I’m thinking right now. Haven’t really explored environment design in blender.
why compare Blender with Unreal, it is like comparing which is better Hammer or Hand Saw, Unreal is not Modelling software while Blender is not a Game Engine even if it was.
True. However, this video is exploring their common uses of virtual production and video creation. I mean if you look at games, there is nothing to compare, pick unreal.

Thank you! Glad you found the right program for you
good vid dude. your perspective is spot on.
Appreciate it!
i am a physics teacher.. kimdly suggest me,which software i should use for physics stimulations 3D videos?
I would personally choose blender. Especially now with the new simulation system
you should look into Houdini, it's far better than both of those
this video deserve more view
Why doesn't Unreal have a Datsmith Blender plugin? Something very suspicious there. It exists for almost all other DCCs.
such a good video thank youuu
thank you, i really appreciate that!
You can easily import quixel assets into blender using the quixel launcher.
Thanks for this video. Very helpful.
You're welcome!
I'm searching a render program for my architecture proyects, for my unreal would be better?
it's good for real-time renders
if speed is what you're looking for then yes it's better, otherwise go for blender
Although unreal has a great renderer the downside to unreal is that you can not use third party rendering engines but with blender you can. This includes renderman.
ok but why pick when you can have both
Nice video but it would have been helpful to look at some real world examples and weigh up which would be best. For example...If you want to composite a 3D train into a scene, you can't camera track in unreal but you can in blender etc and so on.
That's a great idea. I may have to make a part two in the future.
If you are only doing environments, I would probably go with unreal so you can utilize quixel, nanite, and a ton of great scattering features
i am working in blender and Houdini since 1 year and wanted to try UE so is it worth it?
Unreal is a super powerful program that complements both blender and Houdini very well, so I would give it a shot.
I don't know about Blender, but Unreal and Houdini are one of the most OP combinations out there, you should definitely look into that if you are interested, or at the weary least check it out.
Thank you, super helpful. Subscribed/
porque no los dos?
Blender and UE5 complement each other rather than oppose one another. Blender is primarily for modelling which you can then use inside of UE5
But what if it's comes to rendering characters. Which is better
I would personal say blender, as true raytracing is always going to be better, but the Lumen system works very well also.
I think comparing cycles to lumen is a bit of a cheat because it really should be compared to path tracing in unreal
i have to disagree on rendering .
giving a point to UE on rendering is fine ...because exact reasons that you've made .....BUT THERE'S SOMETHING TO BE MENTIONED.
to have that AWESOME RENDERING ( with speed ) ...IT TAKES SOME COMPUTING POWER.
in other words ...YOU NEED A BEAST OF A COMPUTER JUST TO OPEN UNREAL without crashing immediately.
while on the other hand i work quite flawlessly with EEVE ( with some adjustments of lights ).
I always use both unreal engine and blender.
Your videos is amazing I appreciate your hardwork you deserve more 💜
Thank you so much!
thank you for the video
You're welcome
I've worked with both Unreal and Blender+Godot.
Unreal is a toy in itself. But blender is fun for modeling. Add textures and motions in Unreal.
The quality of this video is mind-blowing
I dont want to drop just some assets and lets go. i want to create them.
blender vs sidefx houdini
Literally me using all the programs together
They both win as it's not a "OR/vs" .. UE makes worlds and blender make models
Comparing any 2D/3D editor/design software to a game engine is like comparing apples to oranges. A game engine can be 100,000 times more complex than Blender, Maya, or even Houdini.
Blender is best 😊
For animations and modeling but for movie creation that taking 3 years to render
"Blender is super easy and beginner friendly" 😅😅😅
Cool production style. Seems like ima model in blender then, maybe, create environments with unreal. At least that’s what I’m thinking right now. Haven’t really explored environment design in blender.
Good idea. That would be using both of these programs for what they are strongest at.
@@filmstop7828 great! Thanks for your comment and awesome content.
They're just partners
Without Unreal Engine there would be no top games. Without blender there would be no top models for these games. Just know it :)
There is no point in comparing these 2 programs since they are free and you can use both😇
not if you know UE 5 have full set" blender " modeling tools already
Both are good. So i go for both. that way, more percentage of pros and less percentage of cons.
You're right! If you have the time to invest in both, that is definitely the best approach.
Why the bloody Hell are we comparing Blender to Unreal Engine??? Lmao
Apples to oranges, people.
great vdeo...
why compare Blender with Unreal, it is like comparing which is better Hammer or Hand Saw, Unreal is not Modelling software while Blender is not a Game Engine even if it was.
thanks !
VERSUS?
2 tools very diferent.. I don´t understand this comparation..
I think they both won im going to use them both because im realy bad at decisions 😂 😂
I would not compare these two programs because they are used for different purposes
True. However, this video is exploring their common uses of virtual production and video creation. I mean if you look at games, there is nothing to compare, pick unreal.
i love this video
I love to hear that!
u have to use a bit of both tbh
true
