DYNAMIC WARM UP: How to warm up for exercise without stretching #nostretching
I get this question a lot. HOW DO I SAFELY WARM UP MY BODY WITHOUT STRETCHING?
I get asked: Jessica, everyone tells me to stretch to warm up before a workout or that stretching in general is good for me. Isn't that also what yoga is all about?
Actually, no.
In this video I define stretching, give you a safe way to warm up your body before exercising, and then offer an ideal warm up and cool down method that is grounding, practical, and based on real body mechanics. It's time to leave the concept and activity of "stretching" behind.
Stretching is outdated and causes harm. Let me show you how to do this right.
My mission is to help you create the best lifestyle so you can move, breathe, and be...

Not aware if your breath is through your mouth during the day? It's time to bring heightened focused awareness to your breath and practice making it more subtle. Normal breathing, clinically, should be effortless, without taking in more air than you need. SLOW AND QUIET YOUR BREATH. Practicing reducing the air coming into your body will re-train you to not overbreathe and mouth breathe.

One of the basic Buteyko Clinic International's methods for restoring oxygenation and overall body health is to tape your mouth at night if you're an adult. I recommend a paper surgical tape and doing it nightly to get into the habit. I know it's a bit weird at first, but just try it!

@@warfighter1988 Bro its a nightmare, some days i wake up and its okay and i have my life back, the next day "too bad dickhead, im back" and it happens all over again for a week or more.... i have found if i breath out as far as you can possibly, hold for 4 seconds and breathe back in i get maybe 6/10 good normal breaths after about 15 mins of doing this... i think its just my body locked in fight or flight mode and i need to calm down.

I just recently discovered this breathing method, and it has been a delight to learn. This video popped in my feed today, and I was able to go up to 30 steps hold, but I had to quicken my pace. I really appreciate you reminding us to slow down our pace when we released the nose hold.

Thank you for today's breathing control session. I love the anxiety when you cover my nose with my mouth taped shut. watching the time go by on the clock and smiling... hold on for another 9,8,7..... sometimes you let me take a deep breath, sometimes it's just a second gulp of air. breathing exhaled air was a mega extreme experience. Latex cap on the face and increasing pace of breathing..... I'm afraid of what you will come up with when monitoring your breathing in the bathtub (breath sharing :) I know that you have been going away since June. Maybe you have/know someone who can continue your exercises?

Good morning, I have been interested in the topic of breathing for several years. When traveling by bus, I often try to breathe only the volume of air "in my nose" I was interested in the topic of the Buteyko method about breathing reduction... can you "get to know" your breathing capabilities/limits during the classes? determining the minimum number of breaths per minute or minimum tidal volume. Are there methods using rebreathing or breathing with a lean oxygen mixture? instructor supervision with a pulse oximeter? Maybe somewhere, someone is conducting some interesting experiments related to breathing? Box breathing exercises seem very interesting. maybe I can do a 10-10-10-10 session

Thank you! This is new to me and already very helpful. I suffer from severe anxiety and the resulting panic breathing. I appreciate the ‘softness’ of this approach. One question, if I may - I have chronic difficulty with nasal congestion even though I have been helped be so many ENTs. Do you have any suggestions for exercises when you are congested? It’s often my nasal congestion that makes my overall breathing panicked. Thank you so very much.

This was impossible to follow, the timing was all over the place and the instructions weren't clear at all. For example an inhale followed by another inhale. No instruction to "hold", just inhale..... Inhale.... Also there was very little time to complete the exhale, it was about half a second each time.

Holding the nose serves no purpose beyond holding the breath. What's important seems to be the interval in breath hold, and duration of the exercise. The point being oxygen debt.
