    Not quite sure in you mentioned it. For inside garments I would prefer a mixture of Merino and cotton (or silk?) as it is dangerous that a newborn becomes to hot in only Wool. This Problem occurs not only with acrylics. For a cold outside nap or walk I would prefer only wool in cold areas. And always keep in mind that the Best way to dress up a newborn is in several layers than in one warm let‘s say sweater. Then you can change the clothing very fast and easy when you come from the outside to the inside and the other way around. Just put off or on for example the cardigan and everything is fine. And keep in mind that diapers Must be changed very often. Some clothes must be taken of completely while others can be opened between the legs and everything is Fine🤗. Please excuse my writing. I am from Europe and my iPad does Not speak englisch😢, so it corrects a lot of things into German words or writes them with big letters instead with small ones (or how do you say that?🙈) Thanks for that Video. There were some Great tips. And you explained very well! Greetings to all of you💕

    My favorite brand of non-superwash yarn is from Mountain Meadow Wool in Buffalo Wyoming. The fingering weight is the Saratoga and sport weight is Cody. Both yarns give fantastic stitch definition. Since, I am very sensitive to some wools, this brand works for me. It contain Rambouillet and Merino Wool. It has a tight twist and no pilling. Your review on non-superwash wools was great, but I wish there had been more in the fingering and sport weight range.

    I've made many projects with this yarn. I am a rustic yarn lover though. Lion and the big box hobby stores often has big discounts this yarn so I think it is super affordable at least in the US. That said, I often hold it together with a more expensive lace weight silk mohair or silk alpaca. The combo really improves the luxurious factor and ability to change the fabric with the combined colors, without completely breaking the bank on a sweaters quantity.

  • @stephaniebassett5694
    @stephaniebassett5694 8 дней назад

    I just finished a cardigan with the West Yorkshire spinners fleece BFL DK and it’s already pilling a lot on the arms after only a few wears. Not sure if that’s due to something I did, but it hasn’t been as durable as I expected.

    • @UntwistedThreads
      @UntwistedThreads 6 дней назад

      Oh no! We're sorry to hear that! That can be due multiple things like washing methods, different stitches, how tight your gauge is, etc.

  • @sleepydrJ
    @sleepydrJ 8 дней назад

    The pilling in Your merino yarn is not related to being non -superwash. Pilling is related to the spin architecture of the yarn (amount of twist and number of plies), and the staple length of the fiber that was spun (how long the merino locks were). The superwash process has no effect on those aspects of the yarn. Superwash makes fibers more slippery, and in theory could make more pillable ends emerge and thus increase pilling.

    • @UntwistedThreads
      @UntwistedThreads 6 дней назад

      Exactly! Softer yarns are often more prone to pilling because of its shorter fiber length and how tight the yarn is spun.

    This was great! Some others that I've heard of 1) Woolia by Gepart Garn (haven't tried, heard great things 2) Northampden from Valley yarns (merino, silk and alpaca) - dreamy 3) Knit Picks High Desert, Simply Wool and for a blend City Tweed (merino and alpaca - all are very nice 4) Onling - they make several merinos, including a luxury one (haven't tried). My skin is super sensitive to wool so non-merinos generally don't agree with me sadly, so I love, love love your reviews that match my skin sensitivity.

I always gift items from it and my family is still using items i made for them decades ago.I made Arne and Carlos xmas stockings from their dk and many baby items this year. They have singles, lace, 2 ply, 3 ply, bulky. They sell at green markets, farm day, VKL and online. They have seven colors that are natural and undyed and s large dyed color palette. I feel like your skin type and taste is so close to mine so when I buy yarn, I ponder the reviews. Everything sounded good except the part where the mohair felt more like a suri alpaca. In that case, how does it compare to Concepts by Katia 50 shades of mohair? I love the feel of mohair a bit more than suri, so would this not be the mohair for me? I know you can't say for sure but I am really curious about your thoughts.

    • @UntwistedThreads

  • @graciasper

    hi! i am super confused, because on the website where i wanna buy this yarn, it is labelled as aran weight, but it looks so so thin! would it be possible to use it as a lace yarn? idk if that all makes sense but it is so thin? why owuld it be aran? because of the fluffyness? i wanna knit the zipper sweater from petiteknit and it calls for a worsted and lace held together (creating aran)... i am wondering if i could use this one for the lace part instead of say kid silk by drops bc it is also immensly cheaper! i would be so so grateful for help or an opinion :))

    • @UntwistedThreads
      @UntwistedThreads 11 дней назад

      That is a great question, and we completely understand your confusion! You're exactly right, I think its fluffiness is why its rated as a thicker gauge. I would say yes, it could probably be used as a lace weight, but its core is a tiny bit thicker than a lace weight, and it has more fluff than other mohair yarns that we've seen. I would absolutely do a gauge swatch first! Perhaps using this plus a DK rather than a worsted is what would work best? :)

I have not much money to spend and I am quite sensitive to mohair and other hairy stuff if they feel just a little bit scatchy, but I love these cosy and soft textures on a knitted piece very much - so a yarn which I could like would have to be on the cheaper side, soft and wooly but not scratchy at all. I discovered the brand only in summer this year and first ordered some of the lovely colours to test it, soon ordered more of it. I found it way too thin to use it like it is, and if I would have used two or more threads together it wouldn`t be that cheap anymore. So I decided to have a look at the brand to see what else they would produce, and I found one of their cheapest cotton wool with a big color choice and wonderful nuances of every color. I tried a mix of one thread Alpaca Silk and one thread cotton and it worked out so very soft and it had the perfect thickness to have a fine sweater made of these yarns to wear it during winter at home ore elsewhere and also under a winter jacket or coat. Meanwhile I have knitted five sweaters and three shawls in this combination, a sixth sweater is in progressed work. I do not use the same colors in both yarns but let them contrast and find pairs to have different mixes to knitt patterns like norwegian or Fair Isle patterns. When mixing the yarns I love to use one of the rusty tones, brown or the blue palette of blues in Alpaca Silk and combine them with a cotton in dark blue, but I also tried the coral and red/pink Alpaca tones together with dark red, curry or burgundy cotton, there are endless possibilities. The Alpaca yarn color always looks different when you change the color of the cotton. It`s the perfect thickness of material to be used as autumn and winter clothing, and Alpaca/Silk and Cotton combined melt into the softest surface, I can wear it on bare skin. Also a sweater is ready in no time, mostly needed no more than one week for a really big, long and wide piece with patterns at least over half the surface. I really recommand to try Alpaca Silk together with a raw and soft cheap cotton wool (matted, not the shiny one), European needle size 2,5 - 3.5, not thicker, so that the Alpaca Silk yarn would be dominant enough. It works so very fine for the softest, expensive looking winter sweater and the shawls made of this are so very fluffy, super soft and beautiful. I didn`use much effort on them, a rustic rib knit like two left, two right, brings out the soft and fine material most beautifully.

    Yesssss! I love this yarn soooo much! I just discovered Yarnsmiths DK super wash merino (wool warehouse's house yarn). I haven't gotten it yet, so will be back to give my thoughts, but it has over 100 colors so it might be a contender for future reviews if it's soft as well. But it's hard to imagine a super wash that can compete with Swish. Thank you for reviewing Swish!

    I love this yarn. You really can machine wash and dry it and it hand washes just as nicely. I'm fussy about softness and it's baby soft. It gets a bit of a halo with wear and that's a pretty trendy look these days only you don't have to add expensive mohair to get the look. I have experienced some splitting with the worsted weight but not enough to turn me off. The worsted weight is very close in yardage to the DK and if I have them in a bag unmarked I can't tell them apart. Knit Picks has a lot of sales so Swish is my go-to yarn for knitting accessories . Ideas- can you review an affordable lace- weight fluffy yarn that's not scratchy? Cost and the itch factor have lead me to make items with a single strand when mohair is called for. Thanks!

      your "halo with wear" comment completely sold this yarn to me. despite the lovely look, i can't stand the trend of adding mohair to every design. it's so unaffordable.

    Very nice ideas that I have not encountered in any of the other podcasts I watched featuring the gift idea bundle. I saved two of them and hope to make them soon. Thank you!
