      Thank you...That was a long time ago: I'm glad it is still relevant and appreciated. I just purchased a Gretsch Rally II 6 string guitar that is amazing (when properly set up) that you may want to check out if you're looking for a guitar of that variety.

    • @tacostequilabeer
      @tacostequilabeer Год назад

      Yes, they are…and perhaps they were the very first ones Tom made in that size. At the time TV Jones only made “filtertron” pickups, so these are what he now calls Filtertron classic.

    Because both systems pick up the sound of the strings, rather than the body; both will sound different according to where they're fitted. Usually there's more depth at the bridge & more treble at the neck, so you'd need to set both pickups in the same position to gain a fair comparison.

  • @pierinoonemanband

    Which type of plectrum are you using in this video?

  • @ceecampbell537
    @ceecampbell537 2 года назад

    Hey…thanks for the demo, but I have to tell you, your comparison is skewed by the pickups being in such different positions between the end of the fingerboard and the saddle. You might not think it makes much difference, but guitar designers have spent huge amounts of time experimenting with pickup placement and the different harmonic content picked up from the strings in that space…moving placement a 16th of an inch at a time, or even less, and taking readings. The string movement on your guitar as it approaches the bridge grows smaller and smaller, generating less sound overall, as well as thinner harmonic content. So, for me at least, this was an accurate demonstration only of the Baggs pickup, which sounded fantastic. Well…fantastic guitar. Cee

    Jan Akkerman installed a Filtertron in the neck pocket of his 1950s Les Paul Custom back in 1972. He got the bright tone he ws looking for and the rest is history for a bunch of people

    I have the baggs and it sounds amazing for my use. Very clear, you can jazz manouche on it. When strumming it's a bit "stringy". The only issue I have is that it's crazy microphonic. You cant touch it with the pick or even the guitar next to the pickup.

    You don’t have to file the nut slot at all to accommodate thicker strings? It doesn’t seem anyone here has mentioned that part either way. I’m curious if anyone here thinks this sort of thing can be done with a Jamstik Studio guitar, which is an analog and polyphonic midi guitar. I’d imagine the pickup settings would have to get adjusted via the app, but I worry about the nut. It would suck to cut into it in case one would want to restring it like normal. The guitar comes stock with 9’s, the company’s help section says 10’s are ideal, and I think they don’t recommend going past 13’s. Anyone here think this sort of string truck on be done without cutting into the nut slot to widen it? Tyvm!

    I owned a gs mini e koa and it sounds great. Its true that if it is wired to the amp, it may sound unpleasant, but the truth is, its not in the pick up but in the kind of amp you are using. Do not use an electric guitar amp to an acoustic guitar, but use an acoustic amp instead. Me, I only use a good multi-media speaker (Creative sbs A120 ) and it sounds great, almost reproducing close to the original sound of the guitar. I only tame the bass response of the amp to reduce its boominess... 🎸
