The Mug, Trimming & Attaching Handles, Episode 2
In the series of The Mug, here's the second episode where we take the pots made in the first episode, trim the bottoms of the pots, give them a definition and then attach handles using the juicy, a special technique of pulling. Both these techniques require skills different from making pots on the wheel, making the whole process wholesome, meditative yet stimulating. Hope you enjoy it!

Просмотров 9582 месяца назад
Making the mug is the first part of the series ‘The Mug’. A form that’s always close to a potter’s heart. We use mugs like they’re an extension of our own personalities, bond with ourselves, with others and day in, day out, interact with the gorgeous form. . Today let’s get into how to make the pot which will in the coming episodes become the Mug :)
Pit Firing
Просмотров 3,8 тыс.Год назад
Pit firing is an alternate way to fire pots. In this method we dig a pit, a size suitable for you. We add layers of coal, sticks, hay, sawdust, cow pies, carbonates and other natural material that can burn and create some wonderful effects. I did this firing with my students and it was a complete experiment! I'll be definitely doing this firing way more often :) Enjoy!

Throwing an Egg-Pot| Slowpottery 2022
Просмотров 1,2 тыс.2 года назад
One of my favourite forms - an Egg-shaped pot or just an egg, I start with taking some clay out, making sure it’s of the right moisture level. If it’s too hard, I add some water or maybe some soft clay, if it’s soft clay, then the other way around. Next comes the wedging, where the clay is prepped, air bubbles, lumps or inconsistencies removed. I’m ready to work with it once it feels good, This...

Making of a Mini Casserole
Просмотров 1,4 тыс.3 года назад
A throwing pottery video of a mini casserole. I throw (making a pot on the wheel) the pot and lid on the first day using stoneware clay. Covered it once it stiffens up or is leather hard, so it doesn’t dry any further. On day two, I trim the pot and lid, Hand build the knob and lugs, and attach them. This pot will now go for a bisque or first firing in a gas kiln at 850 degree celsius. I’ll gla...
beautiful!! One question, how did you pre-fired the pots?
Thank you so much :) Here the pots are bisqued in an electric kiln.
Hello…very nice and good informative stuff in your video…specially you mentioned for the beginners as well…😊 If you able to make a video on kiln that’s include suggestions for which kiln have to buy so that beginners can complete there studio. Thanks 😊
Hello! You’re welcome :) glad this helped. Sure, I’ll try making a video about kilns and firing options. Have a good day!
Thank you for sharing this experience!
My pleasure ☺️
No tell me , was the madeleine baked over the bonfire ? 🧐
Haha😅 no no, the bonfire is way too fierce for delicate madeleines :)
Can you tell me where you bought those beautiful buckets from?
Hello! Apologies for the late reply. They’re from muji :)
Beautiful 🟤
Thank you :)
ye sab kitne ka aaya ?
Are the online courses in English?
Indian South African. Being supported by Dutch South Africans. Badly behaved out of their country and they abuse South Africans that left the pool of vipers they represent. Trying to keep themselves relevant.
this is my dream very inspirational <3
Question. If you previously fired the pots, then why fire them for a second time in the pit?
Hello! The first firing gives the pots just enough strength to be able to take the thermal shocks felt during the pit firing. At the same time, the first firing temp is little lower than usual so the clay’s pores are open enough for the effects to show up. Apologies for the delayed response. Hope this helps :)
Thank you for such a detailed video! The only thing I is missing here is the setup of a kiln. Can you please recommend which brands and what kind of kilns one should purchase as a beginner. Also some references from where i can buy kilns in india?
hi how much does it cost to own a pottery studio ? Thanks even a rough estimate is enough
A weighing machine!
I'd add a plaster board for drying out - and some spare wooden trays for transferring work onto x
awesome! Just what you need ☺Thanks for this video!
Wish I saw this when I was getting my stuff together. It's a good list.
thank you for your video! You explained everything in simple steps and easy going :) one question: the collection of clay in the small buckets (dry, ready, slurry) must be according to the type of clay, stoneware, terracotta, etc, right?
Hello! Most welcome :) so glad it helped you. Yes, one set of buckets for one type of clay. If you’re using more than one type, get another set.
Adding on from the previous reply - Even if you have the same type of clay from different suppliers, make sure you segregate them.
This is slow pottery here, replying from my personal account :)
That's exactly how I want to do it. Beautiful 😊
That's amazing! The pots look beautiful
A kiln??
Hey Emily, a kiln would be great if you can afford to. This setup is for absolute beginners who are just getting into pottery. I suggest practising wheel throwing and handbuiling, recycling your clay for a few months to a year maybe and then investing in a kiln. If you want to glaze and fire, one can find pottery studios in the city and fire it with them. At the same time, if buying a kiln is feasible, nothing like it :) Hope this helps!
Do you also have a kiln? How do you fire? Very very relaxing video btw
Hi medha, Yes this pot was fired later in a gas kiln. We did it after a few months so it wasn't documented.
You also need a filter it’s so important and don’t buy a wheel right away start with Handbuilding first you can make a lot of beautiful pieces that way
This was very informative! Was just wondering if the table could have granite on top? Thanks
Hello! Sorry for the late reply. Just seeing your message now. If you’re talking about the wedding table with granite, then no, it can’t be granite. It has to be unpolished stone or wood.
So NO oven needed… ok .
if you're referring to a kiln? then yes. none required at home. you can reach out to local studios or classrooms as many offer shelf space for "rent" to fire your work. price is usually based off width and height
@@bugbuggerson9872 well I guess it's harder in some countries. But alright.
Thanks Nikita - this is really useful.

Which cowntry is this ?
India
Where did you bye those lids and the water resistance tables?
Hey, where can I buy those buckets you have?
Hi! they're from Muji :)
I went to their web site and search finds no buckets yet shows a picture of the bucket (labeled 'bucket') for ~$8. Click on the bucket and get a "Page Not Found" error. :-) Further search looks like it's not available in the US.
Beautiful to watch it in making!!! 😊
So glad you like it ☺️ thank you!
