Rockne & Jones
США
Добавлен 12 дек 2018
The rivalry between Notre Dame and USC is unique in all of college football. My book, Rockne and Jones: Notre Dame, USC , and the Greatest Rivalry of the Roaring Twenties tells the story of how it all began in the heady days between the end of World War One and the start of the Great Depression. This channel is all about those early days, and what you'll find within the pages of my book!

Two fans who’s already read my book stopped by at the Notre Dame bookstore last fall before the game and shared their review!

Rockne's Ramblers played every game of the 1929 season away from South Bend, and the crowd that gathered for this second game against the Trojans in Chicago topped the record setting throng of two years before.

Let me take a few minutes to explain what you'll find inside the pages of Rockne & Jones.
astounding that this is available!
Wonderful footage! Thanks for this treat! 🙏
Right at the start of the great depression. My dad lived in Chicago then. And thank my great uncle, Br. Basil C.S.C. for that band.
When did your uncle pass away? I would’ve loved to have interviewed him for my research. I began the process way back in 2005 and had the opportunity to interview a couple of guys who played under Howard Jones at USC, but after the time period of my book.
My uncle, who died at the age of 105, attended this game..,
1:13 would love to see this play ran in today’s NFL
assuming the 2106 is 2016.
I don't know who this jason is , but He obviously doesn't know what He is talking about. He is probably some Protestant Notre Dame Hater. I know his kind. I've been putting up with this same Horseshit my whole life, in the town I live in (Upstate NY). The majority of them don't stand behind any one team. Their favorite Team is whoever is playing Notre Dame. My brother who was a freshman in 73' told me when I came out for a game, said It's Notre Dame vs the World. I said what are you talking about. He said you'll find out next week. The following week We were playing Georgia Tech in Atlanta. And the fans were throwing rotten fish and empty beer bottles at the Notre Dame bench, and yelling anti Catholic rhetoric. The Coach Dan Devine took his Team off the field . The Refs made an announcement that if it didn't stop Georgia Tech would have to forfeit the game. I think the year was either 75'or 76. It didn't matter we kicked their Ass anyway. As Casey Stengle manager of the Yankee's used to say LOOK IT UP!
what a great coach he was undefended his last 2 seasons he is Notre Dame
93 years ago.
The numbers they call out during the cadence has me dying!!! Sounds like calculus
Good to see my Ancestor on film. <3 My last name is Rockne-Semkow. Knute was a long distance relative from Norway, and we are proud to have him in the family name.
Bro he's ur long distance relative no way
It would be great to have single wing & Rockne box formation in college ball again. Ideally, the TB, FB, HB should each have the ability to make a pass just like the QB. In this way the attack is diversified thereby promoting more offense. Of course, this would usually be for short yardage but the backs are still free to make long passes if the WR is free.
I agree. This is something I've thought about for quite a while. It would be good for a team that doesn't have a good QB.
@hailhopesthe modern spread evolved from the Single-Wing. It worked just fine.
Its amazing the Golden dome looks the same!!!
Yes
Why come theirs no Black Player?
This was only about a half-century after the end of the Civil War. Racist attitudes still prevailed, and open discrimination prevailed. Notre Dame did not have an African American player until 1953. Howard Jones had one great African American star at Iowa, and later a handful at USC, including the school’s first All American, but then none for about two decades after.
They couldn't pass the entrance exam. "Why come theirs" enough said.
Yes.back then players had to have a passing GPA.
Overrated Coach
Highest winning percentage in college football history, plus 3 national championships.
Knute Rockne invented the role of the modern football coach. Before there was Lombardi, Bryant, or Saban there was Rockne. Every successful coach today owes a debt of gratitude to him.
What's your winning percentage?
@@rocknejones2211 ROFL. Rockne would probably not win a game in conference play in the Mighty SEC.
Well, you’re talking about a guy who coached his last game 93 years ago. I’m not clairvoyant enough to know how things would work out after the trip through the time machine.
He has a statue in Voss. Norwegian legend!
Wow, that was some awesome footage.
The scores incorrect, Notre Dame won 13 to 12
You’re right I need to fix that!
These two fans from rival schools made my day back in October of 2019. Thanks guys!
this is the coolest thing ive ever seen!!!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Hopefully I will have more footage of this game available soon!
Future head coach Hartley "Hunk" Anderson can be seen wearing the darker sweat clothes and light colored ball cap.
