I love the music and I love the dance! I wish that I could have been there to dance with you!
It takes me back to my school days in scotland. I now live in australia.
The Saturday night dance was sooo much fun. Local CWA hall with sawdust sprinkled over the floor. Very fond memories for me from Dundonnell, Mortlake Shire, western Victoria late 60s.
Beautful old dance. I understand the boys brought it back from France To New Zealand at the end of WW1. What a pity no young people in the crowd. Rock & Roll & the Twist finished all these old dances.sadly
Sous les ponts de Paris, followed by La Seine.

Beautiful Music but way to fast for this type of Dance.
Yes, I agree, it is a tad too fast. Possibly the musicians are not dancers.
Another very beautigul old style dance where you llearnt to dance as a Couple and be in step not like this rubbish we have today. Great Misic as well.

Bless you and your lovely dogs.
Beautiful! Here is where it originated: ruclips.net/video/e4CukWY83h4/видео.html
It's very nice to see the stepping and proper dancing being done here. So many "reconstructions" of dancing from this era (let's be honest, virtually all of them are American) have the "dancers" walking around in a rather silly manner. I play the tune "The Downfall of Paris", and I know its complicated history. From the French stage, to revolutionary song, used by French military bands during the Napoleonic war, picked up there by musicians from other militaries, and then in Britain evolving into a country dance tune. I've often wondered how it would have worked as a country dance, as someone who plays for English country dance (or English ceilidhs as we now tend to call them), so this video is very interesting to me. Thanks for posting it!
