    Oh, I also wanted to say, when my parents and I lived in South Florida, we flew out of this airport in 1993 and 1995 respectively, both times to Bethlehem, PA to visit relatives. I hardly recognize the airport now. All I can say is, I don’t think it had many restaurants or shops (if any) back then.

This will be our very first cruise ever, and I have to be honest in that I have been concerned about the age of the ship. My husband says my standards are too high! 👸🏼👑 Lol. Would I love to go on one of the giant new Royal Caribbean ships? Of course! But, right now he can’t fly so this is our option for leaving from our hometown of Baltimore. Thanks for sharing, very nice review! We’ll be sailing to Bermuda on Vision in September. Specifically chose it because we prefer the older, smaller ships. The problem, to me, with the new ships like Icon & the Oasis class is that most of their bells and whistles require extra payment - the activities and amenities included in your cruise fare are essentially the same across the fleet. I can remember my first flight when I was 16 years old back in 1974 at the old Pittsburgh International Airport which was state of the art when it was built back in 1952 and arrived to the much more modern Tampa International Airport completed in 1971 with the first shuttle trains taking you to the concourses,parking garages that made then Pittsburgh International Airport look somewhat primitive then.Back in 1974 my Eastern Airlines ticket was only $88 not taking inflation into account but I remember in my first flight that there was much more space between the seats and the flight included a full course meal plus this was during the Christmas season and it was freezing and in Pittsburgh but in the 70's in the Tampa area,a shocking but pleasurable contrast on my first flight then.

    One thing to note about cruise parking. They offer a packaged deal that includes that. For me, getting the AAA rate for queen room would've been $179. Getting the cruise package rate made that $204, not including taxes. Includes up to 14 days of parking. As a comparison, the terminal charges $15/day. We are going on a 9 day cruise coming up, so $135. Now, I will need to get transportation from hotel to port and back again as you note. I think its reasonable for me to drop my family off the morning of, then drive back and park at the hotel. Then I can Uber over to the port. If I were feeling squirrelly I could also walk it, but you noted it might be a bit dangerous with the streets the way they are. I think given all this, added on to the "cool" factor of watching the ship dock the morning of, makes this hotel an excellent choice. Your review was very detailed and answered questions I never knew I had. Thanks again.

      Thank your for your comment! You are right about the park and stay package being a great deal, I misunderstood the hotel manager when he was explaining parking options or the park and stay rate would have been included in this video. Maybe I can pin a comment explaining this rate, as it really does make this hotel an attractive option for pre cruise stays!

    so , all the airlines fly out of one terminal? and if i want a rental car when i get there, there is walking involved. i can walk, but i got a bad hip operation and have problem a long way. seems like you get shuttled to rent a car. ariving 11pm, then catch shuttle to off site rental. hope this all goes down at 12 midnite

    • @PlumCrazyAdventures
      @PlumCrazyAdventures 3 месяца назад

      Thanks for commenting! So yes all flights go in and out of one terminal, and there is a bit of walking involved so if you’re concerned I would order a wheelchair to help you get from point A to point B. You do not get shuttled to a car, there are ready to go rentals parked in the closest parking structure, so once you’ve gone to the car rental agent they will direct you across the arrivals drive and which floor of the garage to pick up your vehicle. We’ve done midnight flights and it’s nice that there aren’t many people around so hopefully service will be quick for picking up your rental! Good luck!!!

    July 4th, A priority stop, 9/11 changed the world forever and Shanksville, PA. was the crash site of Flight 93. A tall cylindrical monument, similar to the frame of a silo, The Tower Of Voices, stands on the left side of the long entryway to the museum. 93 feet tall for Flight 93, the structure is lined with 40 different length wind chimes to represent the voices of 40 innocent victims who went wheels up for San Francisco and went down fighting in Shanksville…. In the Museum, a wall displays the flight path from takeoff to impact, where the last articles were recovered 35 feet deep. Another wall has three phones, you can listen to the final goodbyes of several passengers. Bring your tissues! I remember my uncle Gary suggesting, more than once, that I make the visit. A calm quiet, rests over the sacred grounds of the Memorial Walk and a large boulder covers the impact zone. A doe glances out from the edge of the woods, as two energetic fawn play in the green grass surrounding the Memorial Plaza. l gather knowledge from the park ranger, as a groundhog enjoys brunch behind the Memorial Wall. I mentioned that I was planning to visit the WTC and she encouraged me to visit the Pentagon Memorial, as well. Finished Independence Day with a visit to Penns Landing in Philadelphia for the annual firework display. With the Benjamin Franklin Bridge to the left and several Naval ships to the right, it was the perfect backdrop for the sights and sounds reflecting off the Delaware River. Collected some rocks. Afterwards, I found it hard to sleep in the middle of Philadelphia. The occasional sounds of firecrackers throughout the night sounded like gunshots. Anxieties about going to NYC in the morning didn’t help! Lots of unknowns had me considering skipping the Big Apple. But, put all fears and the lack of sleep aside and headed out early, I couldn’t hardly sleep anyway. By noon on July 5th, I left PA, drove through NJ, crossed the longest bridge in NYC, submersed The East River via The Brooklyn Battery Tunnel, reached the Endless Pool Memorials of 9/11 and awed over the 360 degree views of New Jersey and New York from the Observatory Floor of One World Trade Center. The inside walls of the elevator are floor to ceiling monitors, a video plays from the second the doors close until they open. Displaying the history of the city as it was developed over the last 200 years. The video shows the progression of construction materials and the height of the buildings with date stamps, as you ascend to the 102 floor. Photographed the concrete jungle from every angle with 30 minutes of video and photos. Took a photo of the Statue of Liberty and purchased some souvenirs, before dropping all the way to the basement in just 49 seconds. On the way down, the full wall monitors display a modern version of the cityscape. The endless pool memorials were created in the foot prints of the original twin towers and are covered with the names of 2,977 victims. The endless flowing water, drowns out the sounds of the city. This was part of a 24 day cruise around the country. On July 8, I made it to the Pentagon. July 12, Key West, July 17, the Four Corners, July 18 Grand Canyon, July 19 Hoover Dam, July 20 Golden Gate Bridge, July 22 Seattle Space Needle and July 23 Devil’s Tower. July 24, I made it home to Wisconsin. 48 states in 24 days, 13,482 miles Solo van adventure.
