Yes, unless your fit to service them or know (with proof) radio is serviced & stable on tx Id avoid. Failures are beyond the boring & outdated advice on forums of change the caps in psu & synth. A Lot more is failing now in them. Ive serviced/modded more than a few. A nos unissued one wont last either without intervention. Just saying. 73

@@Radiogenes it’s the amplified audio board in the Racal Psu that makes it sound good it’s only 1 watt as well

The frequency is rock solid from start up best mod ever if the synth packs in. I also forgot to put phone in landscape orientation 😂

Not a big difference a trick is to angle some cardboard and rest it behind the built in speaker on top of the radio so the sound travels more forward makes a big difference

@@morayr6 I am in CA in the US. It's a great radio but I haven't had time to use it much due to my current schedule.

@@LWRC I haven’t used mine much either to be honest sane story work takes over. Nice part of the world you are in better outdoor weather than here

@@morayr6 How are the battery packs holding up on your two radios? Since this model has been discontinued by Codan, they don't make the batteries anymore. Can always take it apart and put in replacement battery of the same voltage if it fits! No issues with mine so far.

@@LWRC my green one was neglected so doesn’t hold charge as well as it could I literally brought it back from zero volts had to remove from casing and bypass BMS. The black radio is fine both have 13000 mah NiMh. Will replace green battery with same chemistry as the internal BMS doesn’t support Lithium must be an older one.

You won’t go wrong with that great radio

It’s a DDS so don’t need all the frequency knobs it has a VFO

@@morayr6 is it still a radio from the 70s/80s/90s? Or is it a modern radio in an old housing. I find it very interesting (display looks good there!) but am confused

@@VicGreenBitcoin it’s a Plessey PRC-320 that had faulty synthesiser so converted to a dds removed the synth and oscillator and replaced with arduino and modern oscillator everything else original. This one was from the late 1970’s
