Caspar David Friedrich: Artists You Should Know
Black and white children playing together in Tennessee in the year of our Lord 1860
There were photos taken in Indiana before 1863. Not sure this was fully researched. Just briefly searching an Indiana history book on the shelf here, I find a photo from 1857 of the Vallonia Craft Tannery. It should be easy to find older ones with just a tiny bit of looking. These are merely the oldest photos they have, not the oldest that exist. My grandpa had some daguerreotypes that I believe were older but can't prove the date.
This was as accurate as I could find for actual film photography. But no question there were forms such as Daguerreotype, (which was early 1800s) Heliography, camera obscura, etc. I even suspect some very old "etchings" may have been some form of photography method, (rather than an illustration) that got lost to time. But thanks for the input.
Great collection of photos, however, there is no way to know if any of these photos are the oldest in any of the states.
I suppose know one can know for sure if there is some photo that's older, if it was never found. But these for sure are the oldest documented photos from each state documented in the Library of Congress. 100%
@@MysteriousMrS1 Yes, thank you for reinforcing the point I made.
@@garymorris1856 I think you might be missing the point... try finding an older documented photo from each state and get back to me.
Wonderful collection of photos, but I doubt these were all the first photos taken in each state. The process was pretty much every where by 1848 or so , which makes me question some of the first photos being in the 1860’s. None the less , I think it would be hard to prove yeah or nay. Great stuff though !
Yes, who really knows for sure? But as far as my research, this was as accurate as I could find for actual film photography. But no question there were forms such as Daguerreotype, (which was early 1800s) Heliography, camera obscura, etc. I even suspect some very old "etchings" may have been some form of photography method, (rather than an illustration) that got lost to time. I plan on doing a video on these old techniques. Thanks for the input. Be sure to subscribe and watch my other videos.

Picasso: the only Artist aside from Chris Chan to actually get WORSE over time instead of better.
Nothing less than amazing.
Wasnt he german?
Yes, he was born in Germany, but grew up in America and became a famous artist working out of his New York studio.
Excellent. You’ve included much information that does not appear in any other video content. Well done!
Thanks so much, glad you enjoyed the video. Be sure to subscribe, I have more videos in the works in the next few months.
Love his artwork
I have a small painting he did during Queen Victoria's jubilee while he was in Britain.
That is amazing! I would love to see an image.
@@MysteriousMrS1 I can send you a photo if you wish. It features two small terrier dogs doing ratting in a cellar. I researched it. The canvas is from London and has the business address and date. I think the Jubilee was an occasion for a get together with his old German naturalist friends of his younger years.
Wow, amazing still life paintings. Love the idea to sign her work with her own image. Thank you very for her life.
I agree! Thanks for watching. Be sure to subscribe, I will have more videos coming out this summer.

My pleasure. Be sure to subscribe and check out my other videos. More to come soon.
I saw some of her work at the Mint Museum here in Charlotte. Absolutely inspiring and masterful
That is fantastic! It is such a wonderful experience to see great artwork in person.
What historical books would you recommend that talk about his life?
There are many books with images of his paintings, but if you want a deep-dive into Albert Bierstadt as a person as well as images of his paintings, I recommend, "Albert Bierstadt: Witness to a Changing West" by, Peter H. Hassrick
@@MysteriousMrS1 thank you so much

The music background sound: Who is/are the artist(s) and what's the title?
Thanks for checking out the video Peggy, hope you enjoyed it! All the music credits are in the description. I'm not sure which song in particular, but most of the music is by an artist named, Scott Buckley, check out the links in the description for more details. Please subscribe, if you haven't yet, I have more videos coming soon.
His story makes me sad for a Some reason.
No question about it. Such magnificent artistry, but lost his wife, lost his home, lost his studio. It also makes me reflect on how short life is and how things constantly change.
I was thinking and thinking , and then i realised , i lost my home when my mother died , so something in me resonates withthat.
Thanks for your perspective. You might also be interested in my video on Bierstadt's Hudson River School contemporary, Thomas Cole.
I will check it out 😃
I don't see anything
Yes, it is sort of hard to see, but there appears to be pyramids and some sort of ruins. I pulled my phone out over a flight, so unfortunately did not get much detail. I have another video which shows what appears to be some sort of sea creature. Must have been over 100 feet long. It was moving. I wish I had a video of it, but between the plane flying and me fumbling with my phone, I only got a few stills. Perhaps it's nothing, but looked strange to me.
Kadir Nelson is one of my favorites! I went to an event and had him sign my copy of We Are the Ship. I was such a fan girl that I ran my shin into the stage.
Cute story. Yes, he is an absolutely amazing artist!
Comments are now enabled for most of my videos! Feel free to let me know if there is an artist you would like me to cover for a future, "Artists You Should Know" video. I prefer to cover artists who are lesser known by casual art enthusiasts, but highly important or influential in the realm of art history. If you liked this video, and enjoy darker, more dramatic paintings - check out this video on Henry Fuseli, featuring his masterpiece, "The Nightmare": ruclips.net/video/VKfJOLMBgjk/видео.html
Comments are now enabled for most of my videos! Feel free to leave a comment or even a suggestion for another artist you would like me to cover in the future. Be sure to Like and Subscribe if you enjoy art history mini-documentaries. I will always cover great artists, some of whom are unfortunately not as well known as they should be, and other are popular artists, but I take a deep dive into aspects you might not be aware of. A good example is my mini-documentary on the early work of Pablo Picasso: ruclips.net/video/jN07L_mS2gA/видео.html Most know his cubism style, but his early childhood/adolescent art is so different. What extraordinary vanitas still life paintings. Loved the hidden self-portraits.
Could be old ruins. Could be modern underground military bases. The Bible seems to hint at a land north of Greenland that the government’s may be keeping secret from us.
Very true. Well said.
I will be posting more "Careers in Art" videos, so be sure to subscribe and check back often. It will focus on more off-beat, or obscure careers in art. This video series will be geared towards high school / college level artists, who might not be aware of how to make money and even start a career using their artistic talents. I want to help my students realize there are more careers in art other than "graphic designer", "wine and sip instructors" or "art teacher". Also, be sure to leave a comment if you have an artistic career you would like to see me cover.
Sorry about the poor sound quality, this was my first video posted. I will be fixing the audio soon. Be sure to let me know in the comments of any other artists you would like me to cover. I read every comment and I am open to suggestions. In the meantime, be sure to check out this video on a very obscure, yet incredible artist by the name of Petrus van Schendel. During the 1800s, Van Schendel painted with a sense of realism in the Romantic style. He was a master of illusion, where the paint itself, seemed to be illuminating the canvas. ruclips.net/video/g0BanQd3rYM/видео.html
Be sure to add a comment on an artist you would like to see me cover next for: "Artists You Should Know". I read every comment and I am open to suggestions.
