One of the best things about these movies. They are hilariously funny without appearing to "try" to be funny. They don't need to interrupt the action to insert humor, they didn't need to invent an extra side character purely to use as a jester, and they didn't feel the need to make the main character a flippant goofball.

The mine was probably a German Sprengmine, what US troops called a "Bouncing Betty". When tripped, a canister about half the size of a bean can shot up in the air & exploded, spraying ball bearings outward in all directions at about 30" high. Like he said, the purpose wasn't to kill you, just to maim you in the worst possible way. Talk about evil.
