Come see the day to day routine of my pottery studio. I'm glazing and unloading the kiln then delivering mugs in this episode. I've got a lot of wholesale mug orders to fulfill this time of year so I take you on the process of glazing, and then firing the kiln. And even bring you on the delivery of some of the mugs. Epic mug journey home to the mountains
Hey hope you're doing good! I started practicing throwing a week ago and your videos help. I like the vibe - thanks!
u are a super great energy ... thank you for being you !
👏🔥appreciated!
I'm sitting in my studio watching your videos while thinking I should be getting things done. ADD at its finest. LOL
I’ve done 2 art shows. And it’s nice to see your ideas. Love the mug tree! It’s a lot of work doing a shoe and if it’s only part of the day you really need to have things that sell easy to make it worth the hours you put in. I always wonder how I should act, I don’t like bugging people, finding a balance.
closing a wound with superglue is a badass thing to do
Thanks very useful info my worst show is always bad when their is a heatwave yes it does happen iñ England I took about twenty nine pounds at a two day event and I took the most money out of all the traders it was a medieval event so we baked in our costumes we were offered free helicopter rides because they had no customers no one took the offer we were too hot normally I take a lot of money but as you say that's the way it goes thanks again
I initially thought this would be about tv shows that center around arts, like the great pottery throw down 😂
I think the valuable thing about challenges is to test yourself and to expose misconceptions that you might have. So adjusting along the way how you approach it is part of the journey. Looking forward to week 2 and keep it strong!
I personally think you are doing amazing, I would be tempted to up some of the smaller easier to throw pieces and down some of the larger pieces. even if you dont end up with perfect inventory its all about keeping that mental up
Having items bisqued and not glazed is a good idea! Good to have back stock and then flexibility around the glazing. How many glazed pieces do you want for your market at the end of the month? Good point below to not burn yourself out!
Your board says road to 10000
I guess you didn’t watch the whole video…
Thank you for sharing the Costco shot-we live in Oklahoma-no mountains, but a few large hills -when we go to Colorado and go to Walmart we’ll walk out of the store and are surrounded by mountains from the parking lot and it is one of the most beautiful and almost unreal sights.. you live in such a beautiful place…. Back to pottery- thanks for sharing your challenge, I have no doubt you’ll hit your goal but even if your numbers are off just a bit, that’s still a ton of pots! I’m excited to see how this turns out.☕️💪🏔️☕️💪🏔️
What ink do you use for your stamp just curious that’s all.
Wow amazing 😊 can you let me know for how long did you preheat the bisque with the wet piece? I just got my kiln and all this is new to me… please and thank you ☺️
well it wasn't really wet, I live in a very very dry place at almost 9,000 ft elevation, so things dry out extremely fast. I can dry a mug out in 24 hours to bone dry. Where I learned in Tennessee that could take 3 days. That being said it was close to too wet still. I set an hour hold at 185 degrees after a slow ramp of 100 degrees/hr. I'll be posting a video soon that goes over the kiln schedule that I use, I have it programmed in my kiln and it's helped my bisque come out so much better as a result. congrats on the new kiln!
@@BeardedPottery thank you so much. I set mine on 8 h preheat which might be a bit overkill. Pieces were few days drying but it’s pretty humid here. Hopefully no explosions. I’m waiting for the video!
140 pieces in a week is on schedule I think. 25 days at 140 pieces is 3,500 so I think you're fine
well 140 x 4 weeks is only 560... so I still got a ways to go
@BeardedPottery oh yeah, maths was never my strong point.. I'm a potter not a mathematician
1000 pieces and cleaning the studio that’ll make up for no glaze!
haha cleaning the studio the way it needs might take a whole month!
Whew Week 1 update!! Regarding the cut, have you tried liquid bandage? I have been recommended that from a pottery teacher before, but I don't carry one on mine (I should) and usually I just take the sign that the vibes are no longer good for throwing. But super glue sounds way more hardcore. I thinking change the challenge to how many pieces you have bisqued isn't cheating, since the challenge's purpose is to bump up your productivity. If the challenge was to make you a better glazer or make pieces that you don't usually make, then maybe I wouldn't let it slide :P Also major props for you making videos and reels in addition to your challenge! I am definitely not on the level to try to make even 500 pieces yet in 30 days, let alone also record, cutting clips, overlaying clips, upload, etc. Agree with SdW.8 that you need to include your hours making the media!
right now some of those hours are counted, because I edit here at the studio. that way I'm here incase people come by and want to look at stuff I have for sale. but that is a good idea to keep it separate. Yeah I had a nurse tell me years ago that superglue is basically the same thing as liquid bandage. And honestly I feel like the liquid bandage burns but the superglue doesn't haha, so maybe it's better? either way its a lot cheaper!
I did themath, decided I couldn't do it.
not yet! but one day I'm sure you could!
I think just getting pieces trimmed counts 😃, not getting them glazed is totally reasonable. Even if you don’t hit your goals it’s already impressive don’t be hard on yourself. You are doing the challenge for you, it’s better to come close than to burn out.
Dude it's all about consistency. Your productivity will ebb and flow, because you're human not a robot. I'm confident you'll hit your mark! Don't forget to take them rest days too!! You should tally your hours of filming/editing/posting, so you have a REAL view of the hours you've worked during the week. Much love from the Midwest US 💖
thanks! yeah my hours "in studio" have always been hard to calculate. I try to be here when people are in town even if I'm not working on clay stuff because I have things for sale in my shop if people come in. So I've been doing the editing here in the studio for the most part, but that would have been a good idea to see how much time it takes!
Ohh this is really challenging, I'm looking forward to see the result😍
the next video just finished uploading!
That's amazing!🤯
I'm that person that holds my mug handle out/up when I drink, sooooo....
HUGE CHALLENGE! Good luck and stay balanced 🤙🏻
Sometimes the universe forces you (through a wrist injury) to step back and take a break, cuz creatives are workaholics and go til burnout. Glad you're feeling better physically and mentally. Keep rockin! Totally diggin' the vlog style. Much love from the Midwest US 💖
thanks!
You need a link on your page to your work
yeah the shop is kinda offline, but I've got stuff to photograph this week so it should be going back live again by the end of this month!
Saw your latest update reel, but can't find your weekly update :( Hope you're doing well, whether you're keeping up with the challenge or not!
thanks! yeah I'm a little slow on the updates, expect the month of videos to be spread out over 6-8 weeks haha. that being said, the next video is just finishing uploading! week 1 recap is live.
Would love a tutorial on those weights!
I’m excited to see this through, thanks for takin us along!☕️😊💪
I'd love to hear anything you feel is specific to selling pottery
Specific to displays? Selling in person? Selling online? Or everything?
Hope this isn’t a dumb question- do you have 1 weight for every corner of your tent? I love the look of your weights! They’re more streamlined than the sand bags
Not dumb at all, but yes one weight on each corner. If it’s really windy sometimes I add a sandbag onto the concrete weights to add extra support. But that’s because we get some crazy wind bursts in Colorado.
Let's go!!! Looking forward to the updates!
Thanks!
Best of luck in completing the 1000 challenge. I believe you will have success either way with your main goal of increasing your internet traffic.
I did the thousand in a year challenge, overshot the goal. Am not nearly as fast as you are. Good luck.
That’s awesome! I don’t think I’ll overshoot this one haha. Glad you beat your goal though, congrats!
Glenwood Springs is rrrrooting for you!!! Let’s Go!!!!
Dude! That's wild, I was just thinking about you and I open yoitube and you just posted!
The pushy salesperson at a neighboring booth is HORRIBLE. I was next to an author and people would speedball away from her and also my booth to escape..low sales for me that day. Ugh. Don't be that pushy person.
Right hand...most of the time
I’m excited to see this,let’s go! 🎬😊
What recommendations for people just starting out who are pretty broke still. Thank you for making such a nice video.
Try to be resourceful. Find free wood. Maybe make some pallet display. But also test your products before spending a ton of money on displays. Make sure you’re ready to sell and people like your stuff. Do small pop ups where you just need a table and some boxes with a table cloth. You can do pop ups for pretty much free.
Just found your channel today! Such good tips an info! I'm intrigued by your mug tower! Would love to see more about how it's constructed and set up.
Thanks. I have a video lined up for it but it’ll probably be September before it comes out
Thank you for making these videos man! I’m headed to my 3rd art market soon and you helped give me some ideas and reduce the anxiety. Appreciate you!

That was the best most imformative video on shows that I have seen. I love how you make all the displays. Great information. Thanks so much. I am a noob so all these basics is what I am interested in. I was gonna ask if shows are even worth the effort but you said you got wholesale clients that way. I love all the selling pointers. I hate selling my work and talking to people.
Thanks! Shoes are definitely worth it. You can make great money, it’s just a lot of work. But the real pay off from shoes is 2 or 3 years down the road when you have repeat customers who come to see you every year at the same show and you build your sales up from there. I have a show here where people have seen me for years and show me pictures of all the work they have collected over the years. It’s really cool
Thanks so much for this. I am a newbie at shows so the more Info the better.
I love watching your designs and techniques. I’ve learned a lot from you. And I love sgraffito. I did vote for you in both categories. Good luck!
I like it better with no music, most royalty free music is horrible and repetitive. Voted for you, good luck.
I love the practical recommendations! I would be so happy with a bag of bubble wrap
