In 1993, amateur cyclist Graeme Obree’s unusual riding position and homemade bike earned him a maverick status, but little success. 'Obree' chronicles his remarkable final attempt at cycling glory that year. Blocking his path is the establishment darling Chris Boardman, whose eyes are also firmly fixed on the same feats. OBREE STUDENT FILM (2018). Dissertation project for archive documentary de...

With an continual severe lack of government funding to support young people with ASD, groups such as these are essential...
I thought they spoke English in scotland What really blows about being the last guy in the world to believe Armstrong was doping is that I add an asterisk on all cyclists accomplishments.
ABSOLUTE legend of a man! WIll definitely remember the Obree name!
Fuck the UCI
And... this hero changed the world of cycling. What a legend.
Reminds me of "the world's fastest Indian "
not him almost crashing after taking a hand of the bars at 23:51
Far left still here fella ✊alerta alerta antifascita
Beautiful film. I'm not into cycling and didn't know Graeme's story- what a hero. inspiring. It's Infuriating they did that to him and couldn't even be bothered to come up with a reason that made any sense.
I’ve been a pole vaulter my whole life and I just rode into town today on my single speed with a back pack on Its 10 miles there 10 miles back. I did it in 23 minutes there and 25 minute back with a bag full of groceries and I wasn’t really pushing it. Most of the trips I do with a trailer and full of groceries. On the return trip. And I do that in 33 minutes there and 45 minutes back with a huge 100 lbs load. Now I’m curious of how fast can I actually go now with a big gear, and yes if you want to see me do it it’s pretty entertaining with the trailer on haha. I had no idea I was close to the 10mile record. Of 19 minutes this has inspired me
A most excellent documentary, no glitz and glamour, telling it like it truly is.
Wonderful doc, thank you!
This is one of the few things youtube has "insisted" upon me by repeatedly showing me the thumbnail, and I am super glad they did. Awesome doc.
watched this recommended go from like 50k to 1.5 mil.
"Anything to win except doping." That's what people want their children to hear about sports. Look at the technology war innovates as a necessity to win; the capitalists pick-up on money making methods for civil society's use (e.g., airplanes, guns, GPS, 5G). Obree's innovations are inspiring. We can always fall back on driving an individual nearly insane with thoughts of having to win. Although I was an ameteur cyclist before Lance Armstrong, I was not a cyclist after Lance's cycling career. No other reason except age and health. I missed this story completely; I thought this was about a spanish rider, and looked up "Obree" as a conjugation of the verb "obrar". GFY 🤣
Well, Jean Wauthier, come on down and prove it. Stick YOUR nose on the wheel and break the hour record.
0:35 no computer, no music, no zwift, no distractions. This man was a real athlete.
The UCI president that banned Obree's riding style/bike for BS reasons seems incredibly corrupt if you search his name "Hein Verbruggen". UCI still seems to be totally corrupt. I wouldn't regard them as legitimate in any way.
well i dont know anything about that sport and its rules, but just by common sense i would asume that anybody should be allowed to use whatever position he wants. I cant see the problem with that. Doesnt that just show that the others position is not optimum? Why dont they work on their position then. The rules for material must be 100% on point though. the shape of the bike has to be defined so it leaves no room for any interpretation. Other than that-let people ride with their feet front over if they like to.
What a huge inspiration. Merci
MAKES AERODYNAMICS SENSE, BUT RUINS UR NECK AND SPINE -- RIDE FOR FITNESS AND JOY!!!
"an ordinary cyclist can become world champion by riding with his nose on the front wheel for 5 minutes" - lmao wtf is that guy going on about.
Can’t believe that guy said that any contortionist could beat the hour if they put their nose on the front wheel for 5 minutes. If it’s just that simple then why didn’t they haha?
Pedophile elites don't like being shown up by a commoner.
Typical of an arrogant establishment which has their darlings. It the individual who forges the way, who is the hero. 🇺🇸❤️🇬🇧
MY countryman. a man with so very little in capital, to build his own machine and train for himself to achieve his dream. this is a man.
They should make a film about this man
What an amazing story, what an amazing athlete. Always sad when luddites hold back true innovation due to jealously and closed minds, and sad to see the obvious effect this had on his mental health. He was a proper hero.
Man v establishment.
wow
Fuck UCI.. fuck you UCI
Thank you for this beautiful documentary. I barely know cycling history, but here I see the very worst decision UCI has ever made.
The fact that the mechanics of the bike is the issue against Obree whilst Boardman was riding the most legendary over-the-top race bike ever is a joke
The only real hope in life is knowing Jesus. We can know the peace of having our sins forgiven and hope for the future by trusting in Jesus.John 6v37 Jesus said “..whoever comes to me I will never drive away.”
je suis français .... etrbton anglais me casse les couilles. .....
His wife is awesome, still loading the washing machine even though it has no bearings!
13:43 this guy is saying "of course we could ride *faster,* that's not the point!" Dude, if I saw a contortionist with their nose touching the front wheel win a race, I would not be mad at them.
Obree is a fucking legend to cycling , he beat the uci and that is that , well done Graham 👏 🎖🏆🏅🥇👍🚲
"I fought the law and the law won" 😢 Ce mec avait tout compris à l'aérodynamisme ! Et il avait aussi les jambes pour faire rouler son drôle de vélo. L' UCI est un monstre d'injustice...
I love this guy. As far I'm concerned, best cyclist in the world.
It's funny that they complain that anyone who is flexible could beat the hour record but we now have riders like Remco who are "contortionists". Time trialling has become who can produce the most power in a restrictive position whereas a supposedly comfortable "obree" position would even the playing field.
Beautiful and sad story at the same time. Sad because the “cycling association” ruined his contribution and his efforts to hit a high in his sport! Beautiful because of his values and his motivation. Great video.
What is that bike thing he was on in the beginning? That holds the bike up. What is it called?
Money is always the bottom line!
Going to try your workout been looking for alternative gym sessions 15/20 seconds per set 10 seconds rest 3/5 sets ?
The bloke is a legend, nothing to do with his position on the bike, everything to do with his talent.
He was just best them bored man
Disgusting UCI!!!
SCANDALOUS their REPLICA was a piece of trash, Ye Olde Faithfull was DA BOMB, this man needs to be Knighted by King Charles 🇬🇧
It IS true that there are many bike designs such as recumbent that would allow riders to go way faster. .not sure why everyone isnt racing a recumbent then.
