what is the capacity of this unit - 12K or more? Do Daikin offer floor console to go with these Atmosphera OD units ?
Currently available up to 24K. The console units are coming very soon in the multi-zone options
So VRV technology is actually only when you install ductless unit head? What if house only ducted? Daikin Fit is not vrv will it be the same?
@@emyunster VRV technology can be used as ductless or ducted or a combination of both. It can even be used with a gas furnace for a dual fuel option. A VRV system utilizes one line set going into the home and branching off into other zones if needed. The Daikin FIT works as a traditional unitary system and is not capable of multiple zones and is only working as an electric air handler or a gas furnace in a dual fuel set up. I hope this helps!
Gas sediment trap is not correct tee should be up and down so the sediment hits it and falls.
@@JasonStromhvac thanks for your suggestion
Why would anyone want to rely even more on electricity? With more and more electric cars and everything else pushing the demands way up the price is going to skyrocket. depending on where you are located there already may be delivery problems with electricity, if not, just wait as your grid is more and more taxed. hopefully this system isn't in an area that gets truly cold, or you will be needing a supplemental heat source and you may regret not having a gas furnace there to pick up the slack. the push to these heat pumps, especially in cold environments is asinine.
@@57ford50 Appreciate your comment. Here in Colorado we don’t have problems with our electrical grid. I have attended meetings with the electrical companies, and they have confirmed that this is not the case in our area. Electricity where this job was installed is nine cents a kilowatt. We actually saw a decrease in our electrical cost this year and just because there’s more demand does not mean that there will be an increase in cost. It’s actually the reverse the more power the power company buys in bulk the cheaper they get it. We have lots of alternative energy projects, solar and wind, for example. We always design our heat pumps to have a back up heat source you must’ve missed that in the video. There is a heat kit that can supplement the heat pump or take over the entire load on extremely cold days or if there is an error with the heat pump. It’s normal to question things when we go through a big change just like going from prehistoric dinosaur cars to electric cars. People are hesitant, but the change is inevitable. There is a lot of misinformation and concerns, but I assure you all of the math has been done and we do understand that this is a better path and I hope one day you will see that as well. We cannot continue to rely on propane or natural gas as it is not a renewable source. We can continue to make electricity through solar and wind for example, that is renewable and at the same time, not pollute the environment with burned fossil fuels. We have plenty of customers that are very comfortable with their all electric systems that are saving hundreds of dollars in some cases per month and are very comfortable even at -22°
Love your videos…I’m considering a multizone atmosphera for a custom 5th wheel build. When do you anticipate? Many thanks Carl from Texas
Coming soon! Maybe October or November
Awesome I am looking into upgrading to similar setup minus humidifier. Plenty of natural humidity here in Lafayette Louisiana
In New Jersey were paying $.22 a kilowatt. I just got a $938 bill for my air conditioner for the month of July.
I just did a quick math for you. You are doing 4000 kw in month its like 4 times of national average. Or you have 1.4 ))) seer syetem in your home. Or maybe your house is 25 000 squre feet. Or you keeping like 61 in your house non-stop. Something is fishy
Check the insulation in the house
Actually this video has a high count of actually.
I’ve slept in lofts before and they never seem to get comfortable even with AC . How did you select that location for the space and will it cool upstairs.
The roof line for this cabin is too low to accommodate a unit in the loft, unlike most cabins. The customer installed a large ceiling fan to improve air circulation, making the space more comfortable with proper air movement.
The only time the heat pump and the gas furnace can run at the same time is during defrost

Hi ! My name is Trung Le. I just purchased my whole house central air Daikin Heat Pump and air handler last week.( I made the decision caused watching your RUclips). Heat pump Model number DZ5SEA6010AB , 5 ton, 15.2 seer. My seller told me it's 1 staged ( 1stage ) but the installer told me it's 2 stage ( 2 speed ). Could you please tell me it's 1 speed or 2 speed ? Thank you .
Hello Trung Le. The DZ5SEA is a single-stage unit. 5-ton units require a lot of air. 2000 CFM in Colorado. This video is the Daikin FIT, which is a multistage unit, just to be clear.
Thank Goodness for Goodman best HVAC EQUIPMENT IN THE WORLD
Is that 25°f? That doesn’t seem like much.
With the dual fuel systems we typically don’t run the heat pump down to colder temperatures. We can set it lower but we find that customers that want to have a gas furnace as well expect warmer supply temperatures. So this is mainly a comfort setting. We can set the heat pump lower if the customer requests it. It’s a conversational item during the proposal process. The Daikin ONE thermostat will automatically switch over to the gas furnace if it detects it needs supplemental heat in a dual fuel set up. Our all electric systems will run the Daikin FIT heat pump down to -10° but the supplemental heat kit may come on and off as needed while the heat pump is operational. With the dual fuel systems the gas furnace can not run at the same time as the heat pump unlike the all electric systems.
@@grantshvac ok thanks.
@@kansascityshuffle8526 Some heat pumps have the capability of running down to 0º or even lower. However, it's important to note that the Daikin FIT unit is rated down to -10º as per Daikin's recommendations, but it doesn't necessarily mean that it will keep up with the load. A load calculation using a Manual J can provide you with much more accurate information. In most cases, heat pumps should be sized for the cooling load, so keep that in mind. Additionally, it's crucial to factor in the cost of your gas versus your electric when deciding which system to install.
@@grantshvac thanks i guess you saw my deleted portions of my last comment. I didn’t see your initial comment in its entirety before I posted. You actually answered most of my questions and I should have been more attentive. Definitely think the heat pump/cooling unit is the way to go. I think the manual J is a good idea. Does it pay to have more than one done?
@@kansascityshuffle8526 Usually not for the Manual J. However, I have seen other HVAC contractors get multiple Manual D reports as there is a lot behind the settings of the software on doing the ductwork design. Manual Js are usually pretty straightforward.
what about 32 degrees bubba
What about it? This system will run the heat pump down to -10ºF before solely using the backup heat. It only gets that cold a couple times a year so this system will use the heat pump only most of the time.
Wym by bubba
This is maybe the best explanation I’ve seen of this type of system and how it works. I’m talking with installers about getting a Daikin Fit. I have a question if you don’t mind: is it a bad idea to oversize it to better meet the winter heating load? Can the inverter run the cooling side at lower capacity in the summer to prevent short cycling? Thanks.
It's not a good idea to install a heat pump that is too large for your home. Even if it has several stages, there may be times when it tries to operate at maximum cooling capacity, which could cause issues with the static pressure in your ductwork and trigger an error message on the screen. Unfortunately, the Daikin ONE thermostat does not allow you to set a capacity limits. You can only reduce the airflow by up to 10% and sometimes 15%. The best approach is to size the backup heat kit to match your home's load on the coldest day, using a manual J calculation. If you install a heat pump that is sized for your home's cooling load, it will still meet most of your yearly demands and prevent problems from arising.
To sum up, it is always best practice to size the heat pump for the cooling load rather than the heating load.
@@grantshvac Thank you for being so informative and helpful to Internet strangers!
I started at the company that I'm at a year ago. They install FIT systems. I've never heard so much complaining from customers about their power bill. Not sure if it's because my boss oversellls it or that it just sucks.
There are several factors that could contribute to customer complaints. If the Daikin FIT heat pump is used in a dual fuel application, it is important to know the cost per therm of the gas supplied to the furnace and what the balance point is set to. Alternatively, if the Daikin FIT heat pump is all electric, we need to compare the cost of electricity versus gas in BTU output. In many cases, natural gas is not expensive, and some of the most efficient heat pumps may still cost more to operate. In a particular case mentioned in this video, the customer had a propane furnace that cost over $2.00 a gallon, and electrical costs 9 cents a kilowatt. There were some savings to be had by switching to the Daikin FIT heat pump. In fact, the customer later shared that she was saving around $250 a month in heating costs.
It sucks iam from fl way to many calls on it and it’s not as efficient as trane xv20
hey what surge protector did you use?
We reached out to our electrician, and they approved the following. www.supplyhouse.com/Intermatic-AG3000-1-Phase-Types-1-2-SPD-Protection-AC-Surge-Protector-120-240V
Why not use the Daikin One thermostat to control humidity?
You can, but you lose some functionality of the humidifier. The Daikin ONE doesn't automatically adjust the humidity based on outdoor temperature. It also doesn't have an off button, just a minimum setting of 25%.
Good job.👏
Thank you!
5:20 Looks like they ran out of 90 degree line hide fittings.
Good Catch! Funny how things will be right there and I didn't notice it. I talked to the installer and he said he forgot as well that we did run out of line hide. We will be back over to add that bit missing. Thanks again for finding that!
44 years in residential HVAC. I never have understood why some companies go out, lowball quote the jobs, cut corners and then won’t go back out when the customer has problems because “they didn’t make anything on that job”. If a customer is looking for the cheapest guy in town, it’s not hard to find them with patience…but good luck when they need them. Don’t call me. They are either out of business or too busy with recalls/warranty work to get to them. It looks like you do good work and take good care of your customers like I do.

*HEAT PUMPS ARE CRAP!* I don't care what the hell tech you use... *NOTHING WORKS LIKE GAS OR RESISTIVE HEAT...PERIOD!*
Thanks for your feedback!
Thanks a lot for this rather informative video. What type of Humidifiers would you recommend with a heat pump/dual fuel setting? Fan assisted or bypass? Also, would you recommend Aprilaires 400 water saver model??
Hello vishalmittal1840 thank you for your feedback. Here is my opinion on the humidifiers you spoke of. The Honeywell HE250A is a bypass that I would recommend for a home up to around 3000 square feet depending on the tightness of the home. I would then recommend the Honeywell HE300A fan for a larger home and try to install it on the supply plenum side but there isn't always space. Also, hook the water supply up to the hotline for more humidity output. The reason is that the internal fan will pull air through the pad and the warmer that air is the more humidity it can release. For homes that are 4000 or more, I would definitely go with a steam humidifier but only hook up cold water to the water feed on steam humidifiers. I prefer Honeywell but AprilAire makes a good one as well. The AprilAire 400 that you mentioned I would only use for a 2000 or less square foot home. That's because water just sits at the bottom of the tray and therefore most of the time just the bottom of the pad is wet. The Aprilaire 400 just doesn't put out much humidity but if you're in a smaller home with water restrictions or lack of a drain then the AprialAire 400 might be the way to go. Lastly, I would say I don't pick the type of humidifier based on the system type for example dual-fuel or even just a standalone furnace. I pick the type based on the tightness and size of the home. That being said I do know that systems with heat pumps don't need as much run time on the humidifiers as the heat is not as hot. From my experience even in my own home as I have a VRV all electric heat pump system, my humidifier runs a lot less to maintain 40% humidity than it did when it was a gas-only furnace.
@@grantshvac thanks a lot for the detailed response. So should I understand that there is no problem having a bypass humidifier work with either a heat pump or gas furnace and it should work fine? I have a 2400 sq ft house including basement with an old gas furnace but I may upgrade to a heat pump in the next couple years. My main concern was if there would be less humidity output by a bypass humidifier and heat pump combo since humidification will depend on the heat/fan call per my limited understanding on the subject.
What also is important is how the humidifier is wired. We wire them to control the fan or use the air-proving switch and inform the customer about fan controls from the thermostat. Most HVAC companies in our area wire them to only work with the heat and unfortunately, most furnaces in our area are oversized causing short run times. So because of this, the humidifier doesn't run long enough to make a real effect. By having the fan control and or air-proving switch we can have the humidifier run without the heat giving time for the humidifier to bring humidity levels up. Having a heat pump helps even more as heat pumps run longer and allow more time for the humidifier to run as well with the heat.
@@grantshvac oh heat pumps run longer than usual oversized furnaces? I wasn't aware of that. So I guess I should be fine with a bypass humidifier for a 2400 sq ft house. But given that flow through type humidifiers waste a lot of water I was hoping the water saver models like Aprilaire 400 may be worth looking but per your input that could be a bit short on capacity for my house. I currently have inherited an older drum type Humidifier with the house and have been advised to change it to flow through type to avoid mould issues. Do you know how much water such new bypass humidifiers may waste?
I looked up the water use of the Honeywell HE250A. The only thing I could find is that it saves 30% more water than traditional bypass humidifiers and it is rated at up to 17 gallons per day. The HE250A has water saving technology as it turns the water off and on periodically as not to waste so much water. @@vishalmittal1840

@@grantshvacis that circular black device a manometer for the humidifier to detect airflow? Does that come with the Honeywell and tie in to the controller? If it detects airflow from the furnace blower the fan on the humidifier comes on?
Hello yes, the pressure switch you see is to prove there is airflow. It doesn't come with the humidifier it's a separate accessory. There are two ways to control the humidifier in this application. Either with the Daikin ONE thermostat or with the included Honeywell humidistat. Currently, the Daikin ONE thermostat does not support the ability to automatically change the humidification levels based on outdoor temperature. You can set the target humidity level and whether or not you want it to run without the heat call and the fan only. If we control it with the Daikin ONE thermostat, we do not need the air-proving switch you are talking about. Since this humidifier is being controlled by the Honeywell humidistat, the two controllers cannot communicate so we need to make sure there is air movement in the ductwork before we allow the humidifier to run. If the pressure switch does not close because the fan is off. The humidifier will not turn on even if there is a call for humidity. This protects moisture from building in the ductwork without airflow. @@DaveDugdaleColorado

What is the reason for the air handler when using VRV !!
The air-hander replaced an LP gas furnace utilizing the existing ductwork in the home. This also allows the use of backup electric heat, humidification, and the other benefits of a traditional forced air system. The VRV Life is also compatible with a gas furnace making it dual-fuel capable as well.
@@grantshvaci love yo
How did you branch off to the ductless air handler upstairs. Did you use a branch box, or just attach a splitter pipe. Lastly is it possible to set this unit or one similar with all ductless air handlers. Sorry for the 20 questions, I’m just trying to understand.
@@fritzyndawolf Yes it is a type of splitter pipe called a REFNET. It allows the refrigerant line to split off into another one. Daikin does have branch boxes as well. You can do this system in any combination. All ductless, mixed, and even works with dual fuel gas furnaces and ductless on the same outdoor unit.
@@grantmcvay4190 now will I also have to install a wall thermostat/controller if I’m going with all ductless wall handlers. Or can I just leave that out and just set it up like a basic mini split system.
Nice man!!
Thank you!
Wow crack heads poop at the bus stop
A lot of Ecm motors are not good on old to smaller ductwork.
Very true!
Wow that flex line running through the furnace cabinet is NOT RIGHT.
Right exactly. Luckily it’s wrapped with tape and has a rubber grommet. We put it on our report and offered to fix it but the customer said they were going to do it on their own. 😮
I have dakin vrf ac unit and natural gas furnace. Is it possible to swap the ac outdoor unit for that Fit heat pump?
Most likely not. It has to be all Daikin equipment because they communicate and so everything needs to be matching the furnace, the coil, the thermostat and the Daikin FIT outdoor heat pump. Everything has to be matching equipment because blower speeds have to match the current demand capacity etc.
Keep up the great work! You are the best in COLORADO!
