OCMC - 6hr - Sandy chaos over 6 hours.
TLDR Jesse's suspension top came off and my bike had to do double duty. Where are the race results?!?!! I guess they're never coming :(

Its like riding in New Zealand except for less mountains, different terrain and the 14,000 km distance between us. So not really like riding in NZ at all.
Scorra - Baxter - I'm too much of a coward to do a hard enduro so i practice endurance instead.

Hey it’s me in the Hawaiian shirt good racing with you man
Had a blast racing with you dude!
throw on some studs and extend the season at least 2 months until the snow is over 1 ft then give up
Good on you guys Looks cold but so much fun
It was so much fun, but honestly not that cold, a few layers and we were overheating tbh.
I use a Leatt vest and 100% brisker gloves in weather like this. Keeps me warm without overheating. Great video, always a treat to be able to ride in conditions like this.
ahhhh i just loooked up those gloves, they look decent and probably can still actually feel the controls haha. I have some wooly gloves that are windproof i like to use, but i didn't bring them this week. Having said that in those i get hot unless its truly -5 or so. That all said, we dont really get to ride much in this colder weather so probably not the best investment unless i decide to get a snowmobile....
Looks like a good time hopefully I meet up with you guys next season cheers
Sorry I missed the ride. I was hoping to come out with the Steel City guys My son had been away for a couple of weeks and had some adventures (like having a passport stolen hours before his flight back!) so I stayed home to spend time with him Looks like a fun, if challenging, day! Still need to get you out to our 6 hour next year. 78% fewer bumps per km than the OCMC 6 hour.
I saw some videos about that race. Do you have an event link for it next year?
I totally understand, family first! Glad he made it back safely, having your passport stolen is an absolute nightmare, but atleast its not a PR card, that's even worse as the embassy want nothing to do with you. and long as i dont have to iron man a 6 hour! my soft frail body wouldnt survive!
@@woodlandwugui Doing 6 hours is how we un-soft and un-frail our bodies (and learn to know our own pace and stick with it even if it means a certain New Zealander might get himself on video passing you). Embassy was actually great. Didn't open until Monday but they had a temp passport by the end of the day, once they Embassy opened.
@@brenton900 No link yet, but it runs Thanksgiving Saturday each year
It was great riding with you, Chris, and Lucas. We like Drury as a good warm-up before continuing on to Horseshoe or sometimes as a liitle bit of faster riding in the middle of a Horseshoe day. Unfortunately you didn't get to do some of the best parts of Drury. Mark turned back east before the more hilly western part of Drury during our initial loop and then on the eastern part we missed some of the optional rock piles that were covered in snow. Also when conditions are better, a higher speed on the sections you did do make them feel different with more of a slalomy feel in the twisty bits and more fun on the deeply whooped sections. We also skipped the first bit of the east section and did the whole thing in the opposite direction (CCW) from the way we usually run it. Those are some of the nice things about the SCORRA trails though: lots of variety and more alternate bits to explore so it's never boring and different seasons can make the same trails quite different to ride. The changes in scenery with the different seasons are nice too.
I did wonder why we skipped the first entrance to the trail! But I wasnt going to question it I figured your group knew best and I was happy to just follow along anyways. Not like we were out hunting for hardcore intensity, its just a nice trail ride to wrap up the end of the year! Does this place get horribly overgrown like baxter does in the summer?
@@woodlandwugui That was the first time I've ridden with Mark Z and I was confused but it all worked out fine. Drury never seems to get overgrown like many of the other areas. In the spring, there are large areas in Drury carpeted in trilliums beside the trails. It's quite pretty.
We were at Orr Lake the other weekend and man it can be hard to get confident when all the hazards are covered in leaves haha 😅
The yz250x is awesome, but it definitely needs a carb adjustment
definitely needs some tweaks its really odd how little mid and top power it has! I'm still not convinced I enjoy the geometry personally though, but it could just be because im so used to the beta.
I'd love to see a walk around video of your bike, what you've done and recommend etc.
mmmm theres not a huge amount done. I got a ST base valve and shock piston put into the suspension, the bladder kit too for the shock. Which made a enormous difference, the stock suspension wasn't coping after a few years of improvement. Upped the rear sprocket to a 50 tooth Drew my own decals and slapped some white plastics on. Pull strap on the rear and front because im always fucking stuck because i cant ride for shit. Theyre both very useful and the s3 punk foot pegs as i caved the stock ones in on greens mountain a few years back. Slapped some mousse in for the cord and run the michelin enduro medium front and IRC ve33s on the rear. Thats about it! haha 🤣
Lmao, my reaction to the sprocket 😂
GOT YOURSELF A NEW ONE YET? 🤣
@woodlandwugui no lol I'm still trying to decide what to get
@@BakeBoat07 haha what you had seems fine, just get a steel version. bit heavier (probably cheaper) but will last much longer, and if you have cash burning a hole in your pocket, get the same but steel teeth with an aluminium core.
Absolutely hopefully we’ll meet out on the trail sometime. Thanks cheers.
Just downloaded the app for the OFTR trails apparently there’s trails just down the road from where I have my trailer in the Kawartha area thanks for the app tip cheers
happy riding man! shame the season is almost over but atleast you have it all now for next season :D
I gotta come trail riding with you sometime. I never have anyone to go with lol
ya mun we running out of weeks lmfaooooo.
First year for me being an OFTR member just have to find all these trails
This isnt part of the OFTR sadly, its the ganaraska which is east of toronto. They have their own seperate pass which is why i dont come so often. For the OFTR trails just download the app and you'll have maps and markers for everything OFTR related! :D
Gotta love the tech section we call it TOG
haha what does TOG stand for...?
@ taste of ganny
Well done Lewis!
Super inspiring, getting little to no seat time over the last few years and feeling older. I want to at least try once! Well done thanks for sharing your experience.
you gotta try!!!! some of the classes have fewer tests to make it less intimidating too if youve not had much experience racing!
Yeah, I have a brownish/grayish tint (Scott calls it silver for some reason) and it was ok. I saw you guys there, sorry I didn't stop for a chat, I was trying to catch and meet up with another group of folks.
i reckon thats closer to what fox was saying too, yellowy/browny tint. Can you still see in the woods? lol
See ya at the land- 6hr
hellls yeah!
Beautiful, flowing, single track! Hah! Yeah, nothing like the destroyed tracks at the Cord. Are you going to do the Cord again next year or have you had your fill?
Id love to do the cord, but with the baby coming, i dont think i can justify going away for a weekend to play. I'll def do it again in the future.
This track is 15 min from me. I rip it all the time. One of my favorites. I'd love to rip it with you one day.
Great work on completing the cord! Love the ride along. Pretty convincing to buy a woods bike 😂
n+1 man, the woods/enduro bike will be a world of difference from your adv/ds bike!
Nice video :) I did it with a Beta too but a 200cc, loved it so much. I was on minute 10 (red sticker). And I'm a finisher haha So proud :)
sick!! nice one man, and you a pro?! so far forward in the minutes! I kinda wish I bought a beta 200 tbh, but ya know first dirt bike didnt really get it. Now I do :P
Vet Expert, 49 yo. It was a tougher race this year compared to other years in my opinion (Since 2015 in my case) A long run like this gets mental, you just have to not give up. When it's hard for yourself, it's hard for others too :)
@@ericlessard4950 Ive heard a few people say it was tougher this year than others, so that definitely makes me feel better about my body feeling like i was falling apart! You are right, its a mental game too to not give up and the advice to pace myself I think definitely helped as i've never attempted this amount of distance before. Found myself holding back, perhaps too much, but like you im proud to just finish :D
I gotta get a small bike again. Racing test one and two on the big bikes was exhausting lol
big like, ktm 790 adventure bike big, or 450 mx bike haha?

Congratulations on the little one coming and of course competing in the Cord! I thought your riding was just fine and heck you finished two days of serious riding! I don’t think I have ever ridden 140 kms in one day so two 8na row. Good on Ya!!! have wanted to do this for years! I will retire from Healthcare in 2026 so kind of planning to do it then! In any case, congratulations on all fronts. A fun video!
Thank you! It was really rather a long way, but if you enter one of the vet classes they cut out greens, butt and weylands to make the day less brutal. So you definitely can get it done!
Got a log on the first try, well done . I have talked to riders tried for more than five years before a finish.
Thank you! I was glad to finish, was kinda super annoyed when i was stuck on the second day mind you. hahah
getting your bike running again was a total sh*t show
FUCKIN STRESS MAN, if there wasnt the pressure to get going and it was a normal trail day, probably just laugh and take our time doing it. But the fact my minute had passed began really didn't help haha
awesome commentary! Congratulations on becoming a dad!
Thank you! glad you enjoyed it!
Nice work! Just under 700 starters and around four hundred finishers. From the feed back I got from other riders it was the most chewed up and rough course in many, many years. To get that little piece of wood is what you want. Congrats on both accounts!
Thanks! yeah I had a few people tell me it was pretty gnarly, I was feeling pretty down after the first day because of how beat up i was from it, but the 2nd day was much smoother afterwards and I just wanted that peice of wood more than a 'fast time' haha
Congrats Lewis! The go pro just does not do it justice. We took the same approach, slow and steady. Congrats on finishing.
next time, full send, right?!
Congrats on being a dad. Man you were going so much faster than I was on the Kove 450 Rally. Watching your video is like fast forwarding compared to how fast I was going. I managed to complete the entire day one orange course but houred out. Second day I made it to Miserable Lake trail and bailed. I was so wasted. Good job buddy. 😎
Thank you and to be fair, you were on a Kove Rally! That machine is designed to be pinned across a desert, not pottering through cord country haha. Its also quite a bit heavier than my bike! Next time I'll definitely try and ride faster as In hindsight riding at 70% meant i felt every bump and it was compounding the exhaustion. Gotta learn to skitter across the top like everyone else was.
Hey! I was back and forth with you on the Kove! Great riding - I followed your lines up obstacles a few times. - learnt a lot from your lines up obstacles choices 😊 I lost my GoPro on day 1 when I crashed in front of you at McCrumms , got it back from the sweeps. Saw you turn around at Burnt river on Day two.. good choice not doing miserable lake transit. It was brutal. Zip ties saved my camera on day 2 from becoming lost 😂
@@kiwi-moto thanks I did my best. I accidentally started out with almost full tanks, nearly 380lbs of bike. It had TONS of traction tho! Hahaha. But it wore me right out. The vintage race on Friday also took a bit out of me. I managed 2nd in V100 on my XL175 and that wasn't easy. Lol.
@@gronkvbs2795 Nice! I was there too at the vintage.. The Yamaha IT 175 I was riding broke its chain on the second to last test. I need to get around to editing my video! I'm just too dang lazy these days.
@@kiwi-moto was that you on row 1 with me? The It175 with the front disc brake conversion?
Awesome video! Amazing news! Upgraded to fatherhood - CONGRATS! and finished Canada's Toughest Race. Well done Lewis! you come a long way since i started riding with you - Cheers buddy
Thanks Darko! your support when i started helped me massively improve!
Love the video! Congrats! I also went off to the side at that big mud hole on day 2, and it was crazy. I wish i had gummy tires, tho. I should never have done that on my really old tires, lol
haha yeah I remember you saying, i think you said you were the last to get through, and whilst i didn't know it was you going through, I think i saw you get through relatively easily, and decided to follow... terrible idea haha. I think if it was raining a gummy tyre would massively help, all my own errors it wouldn't have mattered what i was running. Next time id like to try a full gummy rather than an hybrid, but i was still very satisfied with the hybrid.
All good brother, great vid! Congrats daddio!
Thanks dude! Cya at the 6hr hopefully!
Congratulations man 🎉🎉🎉
Thank you!
I rode the second day stuff with RC trail ride and agree this trail system is super tough. I do want to com back as well to practice. One question unanswered by anyone is what suspension setting were they running. How the F you setup for this terrain? Btw, caring for babies is way harder than this ride. LOL
I had it at pretty much mid settings for my forks and the same soft for my shock. I usually crank it up on my forks to make it harder for sommerville/racing, but softened it a bit for day 1 because i knew greens was gonna be rough, and that felt 'fine'. The second day was like smooth butter though, compared to the first day! I do have a minor upgrade from stock, valve change in the forks and a bladder kit in my shock. And I dont doubt that, haha, gotta get the training in now to prepare for the chaos to come.
Soft. Run your suspension soft to handle the constant chop over the 300km.
YOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO CONGRATS!!!!!!!!! THAT'S AMAZING NEWS BRO!!! WOW!!! 🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾
BTW you should get into yoga man it would help buffer some of those injuries! :)
Thanks Derian!
