This man really just said that's a 1/16" off and fixed it
Flange. lol.
Shluter system all the way old tecnique shit no way
This is how a lot of bathrooms were done in mid-century modern homes. It's a lost art and not done any more. My bathroom in my 1957 townhome was done this way, and I have yet to find a modern tileman who can repair the few tiles that need replacing. They all want to rip up the floor and start over. That is how ruinous the trade has become.
Pay attention - a true tradesmen will use industry terminology like "dutchman". This guy's work is GOOD.
Beautiful. You are craftsman artist.
This looks like fun to me.
Can someone tell me why he built up the material (the mud on the chicken wire) so that the base cove tile sticks off of the drywall so much? Is he getting ready to mud and tile that wall? I wish the video kept going. Oh! Nevermind...I see there are lots more videos. Great!!
Informative, thank you.
Is this still used
Perhaps, but wayyy too labor intensive. I'm in the process now of ripping out a similar installation. It certainly did it's job - there was not a single crack anywhere. But nowadays, just use Schluter Ditra. Wayyy easier and faster.
Old school, no kneepads. Dude has definitely had knee surgery by now lol
Love your tile saw
All so call tile installers should know how to mud their work...just like this....THE RIGHT WAY.
I did it myself. I used Woodglut woodworking plans for this.
hi. what slop will be if the drain not in the center of shower. one side is 1 feet and the far way is 3 feet. so is the slop make it according to 3 feet ( high 3/4 from drain) for far way and 1/4 high from the drain for the near side. or we make it all sides 3/4 higher from drain ?
Your ledger strip height is 1/4 inch per foot of linear slope, so with a drain that's not centered, your ledger strips will not all be the same. What puzzles me is how you match things up in the corners. Maybe that's where the sculpting comes in.
The best how-to guides on RUclips, weren't made for RUclips 😆
Excellent tutorial, thanks for video! 👍
I'm not so sure the chicken wire is adding anything to the install. Especially seeing it's not embedded in the mud. Chicken wire is not approved for use according to the TCNA. That being said we all have our own methods and tricks of the trade.
Hi thank you for your content I like your videos I wanted to ask a question do you need to remove the mud if you want to replace the tiles , or you can leave the old mud which is in good condition and just remove the thinset and put new tiles?
old school, and I like it. we need more craftsman like this
let me add something, we need more craftsman like this, but with current tech and materials. no so long ago craftsman did what they did just because they had to, sadly, nowadays a lot of craftsmen believe that new products are some kind of "magic" that will do the things right when they did a clumsy job... finally are people like the ones that did build my house, old-tech still clumsy job (being lit 7 years(at slow pace) fixing all the wrong that they did to my house trying to get it not falling apart , I mean It, walls on 2nd floor are 2" to the outside, floor 1" bellow, ceiling 2" above that where it supposed to be (that just on 2 rooms on the 2nd floor of 3 rooms), you could not find a thing square, plum or true if you tried)
First class work Sir. Keep it up!
very good
good job sir #khatrighanashyam
This is great quality. I’ve always been taught to lay the liner on the plywood/concrete.
You can get Fibreglass mess now. He looks like 80s porn star john Holmes 😂
very well done, thank you.
Great video! But man who choose that tile!??
Really love how all the grout joints are different sizes and how the corners of the tiles do not line up. Really pops with variety. Flatness, consistency, and uniformity are really boring features.
I am confused how the water proofing works here. How is just stapling through the asphalt and the paper into the plywood? IMO, that compromises the waterproofing. That seems like a thick layer or mortar, maybe its assumed that water will not penetrate that deep? That seems like a risk I would not want to take. Maybe I am naive, but I would think that even when it comes to residential construction, we have learned from our mistakes and made better products and advanced. Building science is a thing. Do more research before trusting a 30+ year old video
I agree with you. Also chicken wire is not approved by the TCNA. That doesn't mean it doesn't work, but I really never understood the point of installing any kinds of mesh or wire lath right to the floor. The whole point of it is to reinforce the mud pack, you need to have it in the middle of the mud, not below it?
wtf year is it
Bro when was this filmed!! 😳 1970
Who cares!?! It's awesome!!
I searched for this video to get answers and you have helped me a lot as well as the comments given below. What do you think about the flange being at least 1/4" above the tiles? It makes sense so there is tight bond between the ring wax and the tiles surface ?
flange should be above top floor only! also mistitled video
This is a true pro tiling job. Thank You
I did the same with Woodprix :)
Ah the begging of the video Does the tarp paper goes under your shower drain or just around the edge of the drain? Can you really tell me what exactly mortar brand you use for this pre slope and shower pan please? Thanks I really like your job !
Excellent video! One of the most articulately explaned videos i've seen!^^
Was this filmed in 1998?
Why do you put so much sealant on the drain flange.............wont that plug the weep holes?
Why is everyone trying to cut a perfect hole around the toilet flange when the toilet will cover most of that up? All you need is for the sides to be tight with a rectangle.
thanks for the comment
Just curious: Shouldn’t the Toilet Flange rest on top of the tiles?
thanks for the comment
Yes it should
@@LayTiles funny you don’t answer because you did it wrong
That's a lot of work. wowzers
thank
Back in the day . They should have done all the concrete base first. The water goes inside by the tub and cabinet and rots out the cabinet and floor plywood. How do i know , I do building maintenance on an apartment complex that had all baths damaged because of this😎
thanks for the comment
@@LayTiles The plumber comes before the tile guy, unfortunately the mortar base stops at the tub. This makes a nice line for the water to go diwn the tub and into that edge . Yes you can caulk . But in the complex where I work they did not maintain it. I had to rip out the base and put new plywood, and even a new floor joist in some apartments.. !!! I will say I notice mortar base works better than cement board used now. It seems some tile guys don't even use thin-set under the cement board, they just screw it down which is pointless , you need thin-set under the board ,any low spots will flex and tile can crack later...
Thanks for showing the prepan. Most videos on you tube don't show this and are done wrong! !!!!?????
Save some p**** for the rest of us
what year was this movie made in the 80's?
how much would a job like this cost to create and tile? I was quoted about $1800
This is one of the most correct way to build shower pan on RUclips .
*In this system, isn't the tar-paper technically a "decoupling-membrane" ?*
Its probably a good idea, with wire mesh tips in your face as you cut, to have safety glasses save your eyes from the occasional madTV moment.
