ROBIN RESTORATION
Join me on interesting restoration projects. I like to rescue and restore tools & toys from the old days, when things were made to last. Many tools and toys deserve a second life due to their excellence and timeless design or construction. All my video's are shot and edited in 4K. As an autodidact I am always open to suggestions to improve my skills.
Garage rescue: Stanley 75 restoration without electrical tools [4K/UHD]
I rescued this forgotten cute little bullnose plane from the dark corner of a garage after its owner passed away. The design of this rebate plane has not changed over the decades. This is one of the early versions. Sandblasting and grinding would be obvious. But what if you don't have all those equipment? In this video I show you that anyone can do a basic restoration if you want. I was surprised that the chisel had the same angle as the bottom of the plane, I didn't expect it to work but we will find out in the end if it does....
Please use the subtitles for my voice over text, where I tell about the process. I read all comments and always keep in touch with my subscibers through RUclips...

Restoration & Upgrade of a 100 year old potato chip machine [4K/UHD]
I found this British antique 'potato chip cutter' ('French fry cutter' for viewers from the US) on an online marketplace. Instead of letting it rust in a barn I wanted to bring this beautiful machine back to life in order to use it again. It is an almost indestructable piece of kitchen machinery and I had a lot of fun restoring it. It was meant to be mounted on a kitchen table once with a hole ...
1950 A second life for this 1950 breast drill [4K/UHD]
I found this old, heavy (2.5kg) two-speed handdrill in a dump store in Amersfoort. This is a piece of machinery that deserves a second life. I have restored smaller drills like this before but this one gave me a hard time. I think it is made in the 50's. One of the handles was broken beyond repair and I made a new one from a similar piece of wood that came from a large umbrella standard. I like...
hey man ive been watching you since you were saving lives in w212 shoebox ambulances, i hope you are going about life at least smoothly.
Shoebox ambulance 🙂 Never heard that one before. Yeah doing fine, busy with too many things and still working on the ambulance. Mercedes Sprinters these days.
When you menyion thatvtjere are better bullnose planes (or words to that effect), which model were you thinking of?
I personally don't have any other bullnose planes, but that is what some woodworkers mentioned in their videos about bullnose planes.
The British isle tend to frack up the English languge. Nice, I just bought one of these last month.
Machine is great, mounting screws x 3 at base don't look right
I agree, they still bother me, maybe I will change them some day
You did a great job of the chipper. But you never wear material gloves when using a wire wheel and the same applies to using a drill press. It’s fine to use rubber gloves as they won’t get snagged up.👍
Yes In know (by now)...
There is one thing I just do not understand. When did we get obsessed with removing casting marks from cast iron or anything made of metal that's antique. That's what gives it its character and in some cases removing them can damage its value. Don't get me wrong it was a great vid I just can help but to wonder when did we become so afraid of sharp edges. 😂
Great video. I want one. (The British prefer malt vinegar with their "chips." Mayonnaise and ketchup together are McDonalds' "special sauce.")
Regarding the angle of the cutter, seems to me that is almost certainly a mistake made by a prior owner and not original. Every plane I know of has a "relief" angle. But you showed it cutting, so who am I to argue. There might be problems when the blade gets dull. Nicely done video.
Thanks, I am not shure but who knows...
Where do you found that machine great video
On an online marketplace in an old cafe.
Fries
Yes
Thanks and welcome
An exceptional job with great attention to detail.
Thanks for the compliment
Hey Robin, greetings and best wishes from Germany. I still think of you whenever I look at my collection of E-class ambulance scale models 😊
You have a collection of E class models? I'd like to see a picture of those. RAVU gave away the laste E class as a model but I wasn't able to obtain one. Many people sold it for 400 Euro's. Crazy.
@@ROBINRESTORATION I'd be happy to show you a photo, but first I have to make one and then figure out the easiest way to share it
@@eichelrueck via email?
I thought, “Wow! Potato chip machine!” Nope, it’s french fries Bro
Actually it is a potato chip machine. The term french fries didnot exist at that time and it is English, not American.
NOW IT'S BETTER THAN BRAND NEW. THE ONLY THING THAT I WOULD HAVE DONE IS PAINT OVER THE LETTERING WITH EITHER WHITE OR EVEN BETTER GOLD!!!
I considered it, but I chose this because it is a bit more subtle.
Very good job!
Thanks
Also called french fries. Awesome job.
Awesome. I'm trying to restore my own drill. Any lubricant / grease would you recommend to use on the gears?
A thick, solid grease like chain grease or gear grease. Not oil or spray grease.
@@ROBINRESTORATION Thanks very much!
Thanks for the compliment!
IVE WATCHED ALL THREE OF YOUR VIDEOS. I THINK THERE OUTSTANDING BUT WE NEED MORE TO WATCH MY FRIEND. I LIKED AND SUBSCRIBED TO YOUR CHANNEL.
I will, thanks for the compliment.
Super tare 🌽🌽🌽🌽🌽🍯
Thanks
excellent restoration - George Salter would be proud of you - and of course a beautifully designed and engineered machine in the first place. Salters are still going strong, mainly make scales and weighing equipment now. Must be one of the UK's oldest companies.
Thanks for the compliment!
I like what you did with the spring. That was unusual compared to what I usually see. : )
Thanks...
Long time no see, Robin. Hope you're doing well!
Uitstekend dankje.
OMG! Thank you so very very freaking much for sharing this restorational video. I was trying to figure out how to sharpen the blade for my Stanley no 75 and couldn't find any (or at least any that would work for my situation.) So was intrigued by your video and apon watching you showed me exactly what I needed in order to get my blade sharp. Again thank you so very much, you have been a tremendous help. Please share more videos.
You are welcome Jennessa.
Very cool, well done.😊
Thanks
Belgians also eat fries with mayonnaise; not just the Dutchies.
Leuke film!
I'm regularly amazed at how beautifully engineered some of these old devices are, how well thought out, and how many, many parts to make them work just right. It's a pleasure to see someone who appreciates them bringing them back to useful like like this!
Thanks for the compliment I fully agree how well designed most of these old machines are.
👌👍👍👍👏👏👏
I just found one the same and I the same condition, as a teenager l had a job at the local Fish and chip shop one of my jobs was cutting 200 plus pounds of chips with this chip cutter every day. And when l seen this cutter at the market l just had to have it .
I had the same, I just had to get it.
Ah , French Fries Not Potato Chips .............LOL
Depends what country you are from ;-) See all the comments about this below.
You have gold hands👍
Thanks for the compliment!
Ayo im dutch and i eat it with ketchup and meonase
I'm not even Dutch but I eat those with Mayonnaise and little bit of pickle juice
Hé Robin, gefeliciteerd met je broer hè! :D Kleine wereld zeg.
I should have watched your restoration before I did mine! Really nice work and extra labor to not use power tools. Great job and thanks for sharing.
👍👍👍👍👍👍
Just found your channel. This is the first video of yours that I have watched. I couldn’t initially place your accent, but then a stroopwafel magically appeared. “Ah, Dutch.” ;) Great restoration of a fantastic chip/fry cutter!
Thanks! So the stroopwafel gave it away?
@@ROBINRESTORATION Yep. I’m a longtime viewer of the Yogscast gaming channel, and one of their members (Zylus) is Dutch. They’ve joked about Stroopwafels a few times. Your videos are top notch. Well shot, well edited, and the restorations are beautiful. It’s obvious that they didn’t click for you, or that life got in the way. But I appreciate what you did, and wish you the best in whatever you’re doing now.
@@susskinsgamer I will continue around the summer, I moved to a small old farmhouse but with a big garage that I am transferring to a studio aka workplace. I thought that would take me 6 months....Ha...but I will absolutely continue from a much better and bigger place than my tiny workspace in my previous house....stay tuned.....
I lived in West Bromwich and George Salter was a huge employer at one time they made many products i think they used to make typewriters also the local high school is called George Salter
How is the workshop coming along? Hope to see you back soon!
Just a liiiittle bit more work than I expected ;-)
Nice video, Like
