Great simple tutorial - Dave from Adelaide, South Australia. Upscaling some older videos to HDR 10+ & will be using Dolby Vision for the next major commercial project.
Awesome! I appreciate this. Good luck on the project and cheers!
@mattspadesoundandvision still couldn't get it to say HDR or Dolby Vision when Kogan TV plays the files not sure why
the crane plate needs to stay on the back end where it’s locked, got a new basic set for €320 and very happy with the integrated light!
@@karstenjansen Yes, I realize that about the plate. I just don’t trust how quickly it can detach. That’s good to hear from someone who enjoys the light! I figured it served a purpose for some so that’s a good thing!
@ hope the light is sufficient, put a Falcam cage on my S1 with the quick release.. thinking about mounting it on a car with the Tilta battery powered suction cup 😬
🥹 thank you
You’re welcome and thank you for commenting.

I love the CPL Filter over the ND ones..
@@ExploreWithStella true but if it’s bright enough you’ll still need an ND overall I prefer having one filter on this camera st a time.
I use the cpl+nd64 for mosr of my vlogs i find it better as it also polarize..
@@mitp2514 it really changes the image for the best!
I don't have FPV-1 mode
Make sure you update your unit. They introduced FPV-1 back in May of 2024 as part of a firmware update.
I didn’t even know this existed!! Immediately buying. Any suggestions for lighting at night?
Thank you so much! For lighting at night I don’t go above ISO800 or I’d use the low-light setting. For an actual light I’d recommend the Aputure Mc light - amzn.to/4j0T3eS.
I usually do night vlogs set between 200 and 500 let it adjust lights accordingly. Unless it gets darker i will bumb it up.
I don't go over 500, unless its really dark for my night time vlogs
Thank you for the quick instructions... we just got one and we are very excited to use all the features... following 🔥🙌🔥

Hello, I am trying to edit the videos taken with my Gopro Hero 13 in HLG HDR mode (the source files have BT.2020 color space). I have a HDR monitor, when I watch the native clips (without any editing, straight from the camera) with VLC, they already look great, the HDR effect is clearly visible since the bright areas are really BRIGHT, great contrast , colors are nicely saturated, no need for any color grading ; however, the same (unedited) clips are not rendered like that with other viewers (such as MPC-HC, Windows Media Player etc...) , any idea why ? Anyway, now I want to edit those clips with Davinci 19, I have just installed the FREE version (not the studio Version). Whey I import the HLG clips in Davinci, they look dull in the editor (unsaturated colors and low contrast). I cannot find "Embed HDR10 Metadata" and "Embed HDR Vivid Metadata" parameters the "Export VIdeo" page: are they only available in the Studio Version ? I have tried to export the video anyway (following your instructions when possibile) WITHOUT any color grading , but the rendered file is just as dull as in the editor, even with VLC; checking the properties of the resulting video in VLC, no Metadata appear to be enbedded and also the color profile is not specified. Can you help me ? Thank you Massimo
For the export, make sure you select H265. H264 does not show those options and does not render in HDR, let me know if that helps with your exporting issue.
@@mattspadesoundandvision I checked again , H265 was correctly selected. It appears that also the "HDR" checkboxes in the Project Settings - Color Management are missing in my version of Davinci. Did you change anything in the Advance Settings of the Export page ?
Thank you - sincerely, what a great message and so nice to hear your story. I have been there where I let 1 dumb random comment get in my head and have me question what I am creating or sharing. This is such a great message.
Thank you for this! It took more courage than I wanted to admit to make this and share this so hearing your words really helps. Someone once told me, typically the ones who make nasty comments have less followers or success than you. Chin up and stay strong! And by staying strong that means it's ok to feel off sometimes.
Great breakdown, thanks
Glad it helped and thank you!
Hey Matt, my name is Johnny and I'm a freelance logo designer, would you love to have a logo for your photography site and your channel to have a brand image your audience can remember your contents from and also can be one of the merch print you can sell to your fans to buy and own and share the words about your channel too? Let me know if you interested and I would love to work with you to design these for you! :-)
@@NetvoTV I appreciate you reaching out to me. I don’t sell merch but more importantly I do have a logo that someone designed for me that I’m very happy with. Thank you again.
Very helpful, thank you! Matt :)
Happy to help and thank you.

Hello you know If I get more pixels or video in the Blackmagic Production 4K with the Siru 35mm Anamorphic lens 1.33x tan the Blackmagic Cimena Camera 2.5K MFT ? I mean I will have more wide video or more cut on the cornees?
I’m not very familiar with the 2.5K camera but from what I do know, it has more of a crop than the 4K. 1.7 on the 4k and about 2.2 (mft) on the 2.5K. I believe Sirui makes an APS-C anamorphic lens so you’d be losing less. Hope that helps.
@@mattspadesoundandvision WOW so will be more widescreen anamorphic! Thanks for the reply! yes is APS-C super 35 full cover so I happy now! lol
switched to resolve 2 years ago from fcp, just now trying fcp11 and it still does not make the grade for me, sticking with resolve
I went to a project to test out 11 and was mildly underwhelmed. I’m glad I stuck with Resolve.
Hello Matt, I want to thank you for your answer about my confusion with the EF mount. I took away the message because I found out this was about cinema camera's. I was looking for a pocket.. Thank's Richard
Thanks for the tips Matt. I will be using this info on making shorts for sure. Very much appreciated. Merry Christmas.

This is what i'm looking for! A straight-to-the-point video. I've been looking for "Normal mode" in depths topic and you give me just that. Other videos on YT just gave a long and unnecessary introduction that i had to skipped. Thank you!
I appreciate that! and thank you.
Thanks!
No problem!
Great video. Can u recommend which gimble setting would be ideal for a Studio Setup? And also could u make a video about setting up in a studio environment with cinematic feel? Thanks ❤😊
Thank you! For a studio, it would depend if you wanted to only pan, then tilt lock. If you wanted to tilt and pan, I'd use Follow mode. I can certainly do that last request!
Issue is u cant find any old blackmagic products once they roll out the new ones, Im trying to find the studio 4k version 1 but cant see it anywhere because all you will see is the g2
It’s only getting harder to find since they don’t repair old machines like these. The Production 4K is still floating around on eBay.
I have shot for major brands and very high budget projects. I use 6k q5. Never had any complaints.
Thank you for this! It's really helpful to hear this. I've been sticking with Q3 but could probably do just as well with Q5
It doesn’t work for me. I’ve tried with theee different media types, Sony footage, Ninja v ProRes raw, and DJI drone footage. Only last one worked ;(
That’s odd. Did you have a timeline going? I was able to do this with ProRes 422 and BRAW. Are both NLEs up to date? Another thing you can try is the different XML types that Resolve will render.
Thank you very much! Kind of clear the trouble for me!
You bet! Glad it helped.
Hello, i have dji pocket 3 now, can i use dji mimo app music on my fb page? Without getting copyright issue?
I haven’t used the app to fully edit but from what I’ve seen if the music is copyright there’s a “$” on the thumbnail. I don’t know if it means you pay for the license but I’m guessing you’d have to.
@mattspadesoundandvision ah so i cant use the music to my fb page :(
I don’t know.
Do you think the DJI RS3 Mini could work with the Blackmagic pocket 6k?
Absolutely not. I tried it and it was too wide. There’s a few hacks to making it fit but as is it won’t .
@ bet thank you!
The one touch autofocus isn't as bad as people say. I think it's a great run and gun camera. You just need to know your camera.
100% spot on about knowing your camera! And thank you fr the reminder on the one-touch. Sometimes I forget these features that I don't use.
Absolutely true! The more I use it the easier it gets. And yes, I’ll have to revisit the AF on this. Thanks!
Amazing sir send your project file
Thank you but I cannopt send the file I used as it;s from a project I worked on. You can easily find test footage in LOG here www.blackmagicdesign.com/uk/products/blackmagicpocketcinemacamera/gallery
Hard Pass on PPro... Project corruption still hasn't been fixed since CS5. Resolve is great but is a nightmare for content creation on iPhones. No matter how much tweaking I've done, my iPhone HDR footage never looks right. Final Cut KNOWS what to do with iPhone video content and applies the secret sauce profile and I can get to editing ASAP. I want to like Resolve, but as a mobile device content creator, I want speed and efficiency, not sitting trying to get my footage to look the way as I saw it during capture. Maybe I'm missing something but I can't get Resolve to give me what I want otherwise I'd be using it on my Mac Mini, Macbook Air and iPad Pro.
I wholeheartedly agree with you about iPhone footage and Final Cut. I've only had luck with the color in Resolve from an iPhone when I shoot on the Blackmagic app.
@@mattspadesoundandvision Hmmm... I hadn't thought of this option. I have both the Final Cut and BM camera apps installed and tend to go with the FC App. Although I have the BM app installed, I haven't really used it - I will do some testing with the BM Camera App to see what the footage looks like when brought into Resolve.
There's no better camera than the one you have with you when you need it. I make videos in a documentary kind of way so capturing things in the moment is always valuable and it's better to have something rather than nothing at all. Image quality isn't as importing as telling the story.
Totally agree, the story is key to any production. I only ever sold a camera once and still have and use the older ones.
I just discovered if I tilt the handset 90 degrees in Follow or Tilt-locked mode (with the screen i landscape mode) i got 4K video in portrait mode, and not only 2.7K as I get if I just turn the screen! The good thing is that the video gets the right orientation information so I don't have to adjust that i post. :)
Interesting! Thanks for the tip. I’ll have to try that out.
Finally! A video that clearly explains the gimbal modes. I've watched a handful of gimbal mode tutorials tonight and yours is the first that I didn't walk away still scratching my head. Thank you!
That really means a lot and I’m glad it helped! Thank you.
There's little to no reason to enable HDR Vivid if you grade the video.
HLG comes out flat like LOG but is an HDR-compatible source, unlike our phones which upload directly as HDR.
@mattspadesoundandvision of your HLG comes out desaturated and in low contrast like a LOG, so there's something missing in your workflow or settings. And HDR Vivid is not needed when you export HLG. The HLG videos have no HDR private flag in the bitstream and are displayed as is with 10-bit color. This is the beauty of the HLG - they look OK in the SDR, without any transformation, and they look about the same as the HDR PQ 1000 nits again with no need for additional processing.
Matt, nice comparison of three videos sources.
Thanks Mark! I appreciate it!
Wow, which split field diopter did you use? That looks amazing haha, nice work demonstrating these!
Thank you so much! I got this one on B&H and it comes in various thread sizes. It took a while to arrive but was worth the wait. www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1612925-REG/nisha_sf2_62_split_field_lens_2.html
wanted to know if I could get by with RS3 as opposed to pro for blackmagic 4k?
The Production 4K or the Pocket 4K? I think the reason for the Pro is it can handle both the width and the weight of the Black Magic cameras. I don't belive the RS3 (non-pro) would fit.
@ pocket 4k? Thanks
Ok I think I’ll go with RS3 pro.. any thoughts on combo package or base ? Ty
Thanks mate ❤
I’m glad to help. Cheers!
The biggest obstacle for me is trust. I have great ideas, and very sharp perception, but people know my perspectives are usually somewhat unique. I spent most of my career writing software and leading teams to do complex financials, film, and the like... Where details matter. I am used to working with people already committed to a project. And I am not interested in manipulating a story to my own meanings, but rather I hope to explore other people's great stuff. Any suggestions?
Thank you for sharing all of this. If I’m not mistaken, it sounds like you’re looking to get into more of a creative consulting type of thing? I think there’s definitely a need for that as platforms like RUclips are very accessible to people so it would be the trying to help people tell their stories better. The tricky part is how to do that. I find that working. Examples are usually more enticing to people than just talk. If any of this makes any sense. Once again, I appreciate you reaching out.
@@mattspadesoundandvision I have done the creative consultant / Executive producer thing for a long time. That is my background. I am mostly like you, looking for projects. And yeah show then tell is the right way to teach. I am just in the startup struggle mode, and not getting very far. I also have problems other than the technical ones. I live in a wheelchair so I get a couple of strikes against me to start. And my camera gear is a bit old. I have the Canon 6D2 with 35,50 and 85 L primes, and the old 24-105 f/4 zoom. So that is 1080p only in a sucky codec. I am saving up for a Black Magic FF, and after that probably some Athena primes. On a disability pension that is a challenge but I will eventually get it done. Oh I also have the first edition Osmo and a lot of good audio gear.
Thanks for the review comparison...for me the weight matters especially for run and gun stuff and the flares on the Saturn just looks nicer with a straight horizontal flares instead of an oval flare in Venus.
Glad it helped! I love how for some the weight of the Venus is better but I agree for gimbals and the flare I prefer the Saturn.
This video was very helpful! Thank you!
Thank you! I’m glad to help.
I needed to hear this. Thank you for the encouragement. All my friends who started out with me on this filmmaking journey in the early 90's have all thrown in the towel. I'm the only one left. Sometimes I feel so alone and wonder am I wasting my time. But I can't stop. I'm not where I envisioned myself to be, I don't have the oscars and such. Life has at times delivered me some blows that tested my faith in my dream. I a few years ago I took a long look at myself and realized that wasn't really trying. I really didn't believe my dreams could happen and was afraid of failure. That's when I started my youtube channel and placed a demand on myself to create at least one film every month. I've learned and still learning so much about filmmaking. I realized that fame does not make you a filmmaker. Making films makes you a filmmaker. Thank you for the peep talk. I needed to hear that.
Thank you for sharing your story with me. That means a lot and it does help to know others like us are still the same boat. It’s perfectly normal to be afraid of failure.
@@mattspadesoundandvision you're welcome. It's good to know that others experience to same emotions and struggles.
great job Matty. Thanks!
