Hey Regan, its me again, I'm finally about to start my fun mural painting. What kind of paint did you use?
I just used regular latex paint. For the larger areas (sky/ background) you'll need a larger can but for all the others I just got sample/ tester size cans.
***** It's so difficult to paint it perfectly with just sponge brush. In the end, I had to mask out parts of it before painting, tedious!
The only place I used masking tape was for the black lines across the bottom - just so I could go faster without having to worry about staying in the lines. I just used a small foam brush for this.
Nice! Did you mark on the wall with pencil and stencil them using masking tape? what tools you recommend to paint those?
I stenciled each pixel out beforehand. Basically you are just creating a grid of 1"x1" squares and then filling in the blanks.
Nice idea and technique, thanks for sharing, I will make a retro mural by my own.

@mrsportbike1989 Thanks. The wall is 8' x 10' so I made a grid in MS Excel 96 cells high x 120 cells wide (each cell represents a 1" x 1" pixel. Everything was mapped out on the Excel sheet and then all I had to do was draw 1" x 1" grids on the wall where the objects went. After that it was pretty much a paint by numbers kind of project.

Well done. Wish I had had the tools to do a time-lapse video when I was painting my wall. Turned out great!
