Rich Hill Farms
Добавлен 15 апр 2024
-Located in the mountains of North Carolina, Rich Hill Farms begins a new journey of being ran by its next generation.-
You never know what can happen, one day we are here, and the next we aren't. The purpose behind these videos is to have a way to document some of the history, some of the present, and what things we are doing for the future at Rich Hill Farms. If we aren't here to do it, hopefully these videos can pass down some of the stories and information needed to take care of this old place.

Cattle never seem to pick a convenient time to get out. After months building fence they still managed to find a place that hasn't been repaired after Hurricane Helene. What would you pick for Utv riding,, ip 67 rated , there so many to look at, would u prefer a hand held or mobile unit, what brand n model thanks
Most of my off-roading buddies have mobile units mounted in their sxs and most of us have a handheld as well. The Midland MXT500 is great and waterproof, but very pricey. I have the Rugged Radio GMRS 25. It is ip67 and much more affordable. As for a handheld, if you just want something cheap the Baofeng UV-9G is decent. I keep a Retevis RA89 with me, but it is pretty bulky. If you want top quality in a handheld that’s also ip67, get the Wouxun KG-935G.
Thanks
Sounds like you’re going to be going through a lot of DEF fluid with diesel lol
Glad to see you back from the dark side again😂. We’re trying to stay warm on the other side of Whitetop too
That was interesting.
You spoke about remote learning days. I was a school nurse administrator during Covid (now retired) and know remote learning was the best option we had, but still it was very controversial. I read the other day that Anchorage, AK schools are doing away with remote learning options. Do you think the pendulum will swing back and remote learning will be a thing of the past? Very nice new truck, btw. Hope it gives you better service.
Oh boy, I bet that was a fun job to have in 2020! For us, I’m not sure. I hate remote learning for many reasons. However, I do see a benefit to it as long as students actually participate. Thanks for continuing to watch and for the compliment!
@@RichHillFarms You are right. Participation was and still is the key. Teachers and admins told me that many kids just basically dropped out. Some just couldn't/wouldn't engage online and some didn't have access or had very problematic access to the internet. My nurses used the format to keep a check on students with chronic health issues or at-risk home situations. It really was the worst of times. My hat is off to you in the school community as you navigate in the post-Covid setting.
Yeah going to a newer ram is definitely not the answer . I know first hand . And these truck do not use oil like everyone thinks . You need to start it turn it off let it sit one minute and then check it . People are not checking it properly . And if you have the wrong viscosity in it it will use a little oil but not like yours . You have to have had a leak or something else . The GM is by far a better truck and I am a Ram guy at heart
I'm enjoying your videos Preston and that's a real nice Ram. Is it new? By the way, what brand are those sunglasses you wear?
Thanks for watching! No, it’s a 2020 model. The best cheap sunglasses ever made. They are made by Calcutta and the model is Marsh Grass. I believe they have discontinued them unfortunately. I bought a pair at North Myrtle Beach from the grocery store and fell in love. I ended up finding them on sale on online for seven dollars apiece. I believe I bought six pairs! That should do me for a while!
Bought me 2 Wouxun KG-905G. Love em.
Way to go! They are built like a tank!
Nice Truck. I'm sure you will enjoy driving it.
Thank you! I hope so too!
You be safe... It looks very nasty and dangerous.. like your new truck. Pray it gives you lots and lots of fantastic service.. blessings to you and all the surround people in North Carolina.. I'm still praying for y'all.. God be with each one. 🙏✝️❤️🙏
Like the truck, sure wish school was in . Hope it works out for you to work out of. I believe they should go to school on Saturdays. As many days have been missed..
Love your new Truck! 🤩 Do be careful on those roads. School over for the day / Farm Chores ✔ The cows are fed / old girl has needed medicine. ✔ Nice - bringing home something for your wife, so she doesn't have to cook tonight. You got a lot done.....That was a good day.
Thank you!
Re: Wind Chill is the worst! ~ Yes, I agree it's the W i n d that can make us / the cows.....so much colder. 🌬 Wind chill is based on the rate of heat loss from exposed skin / draws heat from the body, driving down skin temperature and eventually the body's internal temperature. ~ I am so glad you are thinking about your cows and getting them somewhere to get out of the Wind!
A six speed is terrible in the 6.6 gasser, but the ten speed brings it up to 20 mpg. As for oil, I change mine 2023 custom. After that first Oil change DON'T CHANGE THE OIL UNTIL YOU HAVE 20,000 MILES. A Honda civic only needs changing at 20k, it's the Oil filter that needs to be checked for metal pieces if not yet good to go.😊 Get a 10 speed and stop changing that Oil!
I think you miss understood. I wasn’t changing the oil, the truck was using the oil. If I waited to even 6,000 miles to change the oil in that truck there wouldn’t have been any oil in it. Thanks or watching.
10,000 dolllar difference in price. I’m fine with some extra oil and brakes. I still think you work the shit out of that thing and it’s a l lemon…
We have a 2019 Chevy 2500HD gas work truck. We tow our 30’ Airstream with it periodically. We have “hill descent” mode and thankfully have never had any problems with the brakes. We also don’t burn a lot of oil. I say all this to tell you that you’re making the right decision to get rid of your current truck. It might be a lemon.
They are good trucks. I think you are right though, something’s not quite right with this one.
Can't go wrong with a Ram. Own a 1500 myself.
I sure did love my last one. Let’s hope this one is just as reliable!
That amount of oil consumption is insane. Good to hear your experience with the 6.6 gasser.
Agreed!
Just make sure you stick with the Cummins because the powerstroke won't do that type of mileage. We have an old 2007 Cummins 2 wheel drive had to delete and get 26mpg on the highway
I Just posted a comment..... and it's gone. (I'll see if this one stays....) RUclips is once again doing some weird things! Ugh. > Are they trying to save 🤑? > I think you should have a lot more 'views' 👍 and comments on your channel.
Well thank you, the views sure do help!
Happy New Year. Would be nice to video facing forward when going to farm. 88 is such a nice road to drive.
I also enjoy 'watching' the Drive. It feels like I am there in those beautiful mountains!
I still have family right around the area by the farm.. Just haven't had time to get down there.
My 3 favorite and most reliable motors in my opinion....consider that I am 67 years old. Gas motor...any inline 6 cylinder but favorite is the ford , then the 225 slant six Mopar....( hillside hemi). Find yourself one of those, rebuild it if necessary and you pretty much have yourself a tractor. Favorite diesel is the 12 valve Cummins or 7.3 power stroke. Bottom line for me...I would not buy any of these newer trucks.....restored classics is where I would be shopping. But that's just my view.
@bryanstaten5585 I am in my mid 60's as well, could not find a restored classic at any price that makes economic sense, the all in the cost does not pan out. I have looked far and wide and ran the math for my use case as I still work. My heart strings love those classics you describe, for me the bottom line will always be about the money so the classics are out the door. The choices are simply fewer nowadays and as much as it pains me, new needs to be considered. So lots of homework needs to be done and shop without emotion to get ahead. Setting a preset favorite before shopping can be very expensive. I switched out my old truck this past August and the new pickup truck dropped my cost by about a third and is tough as nails.
The audio is much better than before and the video is just fine. Hopefully this new camera will allow you to keep telling us the story of farm life...and I agree with you -- pictures of that precious baby girl will have your phone and i-cloud full in no time!
Happy new year . For some odd reason my comment get taken off. So enjoy what days is left for schools to start back. Ill be happy when it does !!!!!
Thank you, happy new year to you as well!
My Comments have also been taken off. (not this channel) > This has been happening to me for the last week. RUclips is again doing some weird things.....
Happy New Year... Many great and wonderful blessings and as always be safe.... Take care of them girls. (Cows)
Happy new year!
Just glad your all safe
Preston. Video quality looks good. I'd say the 2K was a little better, crisper than the 1080p. Sound quality was fine. I think this will work great for you. Happy New Year.
Good to know! Thank you for the comment and a Happy New Year to you as well!
Would state not buy your hay for covering sides of road where they reseed sides of roads were they are trying to prevent washout on sides of road, like on steep hillsides?
That’s a great idea, but I kinda doubt it…
Saying hello from Deep Ford Road in Lansing. Here is hoping today’s rains did not cause any more damage to your farm.
Stay safe and God bless you all!
I came across your channel because of Helene. I look forward to seeing your videos of farm life. My grandparents were farmers so what I remember of farm life is from 50 years ago. I think this camera does a very good job. Stay the course.
Awesome! Thank you!
Thanks for sharing. I found your channel during hurricane Helene. I got hooked and look forward to each video. I really like this camera and microphone. Side note: as for the feral cats, are you familiar with Trap, Neuter, Return? Ally Cat Allies, among others, has tips and advice for dealing with unwanted cat behavior. There may be someone in your area willing to help you with that, I’m 2,000 miles away, or I would gladly come.
Thank you for watching! I’ll look into the cat solutions!
Hey Preston! I think you’re settings are fine at 1080. Pictures looks good and sound fine by me. I’ve used the action cameras for some of my videos. Sometimes the phone is just easier for a quick video. I basically delete all my videos after uploading (on the phone). Love what you’re doing out on the farm! Always cool to see the place! - Brian Morris
Thanks! I will stick with 1080 then, because it was much easier for my old computer to work with. I hope you all are doing well and had a great Christmas!
@ thank you! Hope you and the family have had a Merry Christmas and will have a Happy New Year!
That road is real rough up by your place by Robert tradwayes all water came down lazy branch i can hear you just fine great video you should have the old blue Toyota was a good truck we tried to buy it from tom he said that you boys was going to make a rock climer out of it
It sure is, but better than it was before the gravel! That old truck would have handled it perfect! Thanks for watching.
Love seeing the progress on the farm. Be safe God bless.... Subscribe and like y'all....🙏✝️🇺🇲✝️🙏
Thank you!
This mic is great, very good audio quality.

Merry Christmas
Merry Christmas to you!
I thought the cows would avoid the part where the trees are on the fence. Maybe you could get a herding dog. Oh, the mic sounds good. I still can’t get over how beautiful the scenery is with the river running through.
I was hoping they wouldn’t mess with it too. I believe they got out somewhere else though. The dog is a good thought!
Merry Christmas 🎄
Merry Christmas to you as well!
Are cattle dogs a good option for you? Merry Christmas to you and yours! 🌲🌲
