Star Trek: Discovery (Season 1, Episode 1-3) Review
This was originally uploaded to a different website that got taken down called vidme. I had never uploaded it on here and with the second season around the corner, I decided to throw it up. This review only covers the first 3 episodes of the first season so obviously it's not entirely up to date. That said, I did end up finishing that first season and in the end my opinions didn't really change. Many of the same points that we brought up about the first few episodes we would have still brought up at the end of the 15th episode.
I know that it's been a long time since we've added anything to this channel. The truth is that life got pretty busy and both of us have taken on new opportunities....

BLACK PANTHER review - CineMike

Long live the King! The MCU has one final gift to give us before we see the Avengers battle Thanos in Infinity War. Black Panther continues the story of T'Challa, returning home to Wakanda to assume the role of King. However to truly earn it he'll have to fight the consequences from his father's reign. Tons of positive buzz has surrounded this movie. It's earned high praise from critics and has...

By now, most of us have gotten around to checking out Episode 8 and have chosen a side in this incredibly divisive entry. The movie has split audiences and left many of us baffled as it why. Batman, Wonder Woman, The Flash and Aquaman unite to honor the memory of Superman to save the world from Steppenwolf! I uploaded this to my vidme channel and forgot to upload it here as well. So it's a bit late but oh well. The DCEU has rushed to get to this team up so for their sake, they better hope that it has paid off. Watch to get my opinion if they finally got it right.

Set 30 years after the original Ridley Scott classic, 2049 follows K, a Blade Runner who stumbles onto a case that could challenge how the world defines life. With all of these reboots lately, it was only a matter of time until this happened. What makes this one stand out though is that they managed to bring visionary director Denis Villeneuve on board to helm it. So does he deliver? This video...

    My very weird top 10 bond movie list. Starting with my top 1 pick. 1. Octopussy First bond movie I watched, loved the bond girl and locations. Gadgets pretty cool and eventho the plot is confusing, I like it. 2. Thunderball I dont have this movie at my top 2 because I adore the plot, but I just enjoy the setting. I love just watching connery walking around in the bahamas. Add to that with hot bond girls, the db5, jetpack, and a fantastic theme by Tom Jones. 3. The Spy Who Loved Me Lotus Esprit 4. For your eyes only The gritty Roger Moore bond movie with still some jokes in it is a perfect mix. 5. Live and let die The voodoo theme is just cool. Moore is a bit stale tho, not gotten comfy with the role yet. 6. Diamonds are Forever Same with Thunderball, only less exciting. 7. Goldeneye Action packed. 8. Goldfinger Like Thunderball but with higher quality, besides the locations. 9. From Russia with Love A real spy movie. But a bit boring in some scenes. 10. Casino Royale If this was the first James Bond movie, it would have been fantastic. Everything about it as an action movie itself is great. It lacks gadgets though.

    Ive always thought that the matrix films- having been built upon maybe the greatest sci fi premise of all time-were able to get away with a ton of mediocrity in the form of alot of painfully generic, uninspired, and typically predictable and cliche sci fi dialigue. I liked the movies alot though. But they just leaned a little excessively on the original concept without letting it develop much. Just my opinion.

    My Order of bonds: 1. Dalton 2. Moore 3. Craig 4. Connery 5. Brosnan 6. Lazenby

    • @cinemike8207
      @cinemike8207 3 года назад

      Nice! I really don't think that you can go wrong with ranking the Bonds. While all carry on the soul of the character, they all bring their own unique interpretation. My personal ranking is ... 1. Connery - Connery is like gravity on screen, it's so hard to not get pulled into what he's doing. That goes for any movie he is in and even if it's just a supporting role, such as The Untouchables where he won an Oscar for best supporting actor. Also watching his early Bond films, it's hard to deny the massive influence he had in creating the character cinematically. He balanced the ingredients of Bond perfectly, laying out the tools for future actors to pick and choose from. 2. Craig - Craig is like the tank in Goldeneye smashing it's way through Saint Petersburg. His strength and the danger in his eyes brings a new level of intensity for Bond while also layering in a surprising vulnerable side. He's a bit of a mesh between Connery and Dalton. 3. Dalton - Dalton was actually my first Bond and I will always think of him that way. He was ahead of his time with his darker, edgier and more human take on the role. He was criticized in his time for the very thing that Craig would be praised for years later. 4. Moore - Moore is like a good host at a party and makes you feel welcome. I enjoyed the humor and charm that he brought to Bond. 5. Brosnan - Brosnan was a hybrid Bond in that he combined elements of Moore's charm with Dalton's more human take. At times this created sudden tonal shifts but it can't be denied that Brosnan is a charming guy. Also he was the Bond in theaters when I was a kid so he holds a special place. 6. Lazenby - Lazenby was not a trained actor and considering that, I think he was surprisingly not bad. True he was mostly being directed to do an impression of Connery but he did that pretty well. Fortunately for him, the movie he starred in just so happened to be one of the best Bond stories. He also had the fantastic Diana Rigg to up his game and some of the most impressive stunts in the series. Oh and that ending!

    Bit disappointed Octopussy was so low on your other video- such an underrated film. It’s actually really serious minus the odd dumb bit(Tarzan swing, tiger sit part, gorilla bit, you get the idea). But yeah it’s a magnificent Cold War thriller with loads of action and yes Bond dresses as a clown but if you read between the lines it’s serious and it’s actually one of the tensest moments in all of bond.

    • @cinemike8207
      @cinemike8207 3 года назад

      Well it all comes down to personal taste but the silly moments in the movie rank among some of the most over the top in Bond history for me. I can see your argument for the clown thing to a degree but I just don't personally feel that the execution was all there. Beyond the campy stuff though, as I said in the video, I just don't think Octopussy is as memorable as other Bond films, with the exception of a few key sequences like the finale airplane stunts. Keep in mind that even if a Bond film is ranked lower on my list that certainly doesn't mean that I hate it. I actually love all Bond films, even the worst of the bunch. One of the great things about Bond is the variety it shows through out the years. A lot of people, Mike Myers to name one, parody the tropes and formula of the series but there's also a lot of evolution. I love Roger Moore but his years were slightly more campy and, though entertaining, they generally just aren't among my favorites.

    Your video was very enjoyable to watch and I love hearing other Bond fan’s opinions. (I put your rankings in parenthesis.) I’m a 40+ year fan, I just did another rewatch of all the films (Last was in 2010). These are my ratings. 1. The Spy who loved me (8) When I think Bond this movie and the next one come to mind, in fact these are two I recommend new Bond watchers to watch first. 2. From Russia With Love (1) This is the best Connery film, great pacing, nice locales, this is a solid spy thriller that proves that you don't need tons of action. 3. Skyfall (4) I think I overate this film because it's sandwiched between the worst films in the franchise QoS and Spectre but it is the only film by Craig (so far) that you can see a bit of "James Bond" rather than a generic super-action hero. 4. License to Kill (11) Dark, edgy, realistic. 5. Goldeneye (5) Tank scene, need I say more, ok Sean Bean, need more, a perfectly paced film and one of the coolest opening scenes of the series. 6. A View to a Kill (20) I get the faults of this film but each time I watch it I enjoy it more and more. This is a classic Bond movie, great opening and final scene, nice locales, menacing villain, awesome hench-woman, great pacing and it has two of the most intense scenes of any Bond Film in it. 7. Live and Let Die (18) This is a classic and being an introduction to Roger Moore it was beautifully crafted. It has one of the best boat chases ever filmed. 8. Thunderball (10) I think this Connery’s best acted film and the groundbreaking underwater sequences are awesome, plus the Vargas kill scene is the most classic kill in the franchise. 9. The world is Not Enough (15) This has some of the best action sequences in it, very well paced and has Brosnan's best acting. Never understood the hate for this film. 10. Dr. No (12) 11. Die Another Day (23) This first half of this film is the best of any Bond films and then it goes off the rails but it doesn’t deserve last place as most people put it. The CGI is limited and not really that bad for that era and if you accept the sci-fi concept it is a very fun film to watch. Plus it has Jinx, one of the best Bond girls ever and the super hot Miranda Frost. 12. Octopussy (19) Is also a fun film, campy but it hits all the right plot points. I find that people who put it near the bottom usually say they are confused by the plot. 13. For Your Eyes Only (9) Used to be my favorite Moore film but over the years it has dropped, still very enjoyable and that song, wow. 14. Diamonds are Forever (22) This filmed nailed 1970’s Vegas and how over the top Vegas actually was back then. I also love the fact that Connery is just having a fun time (some claim he looks bored, no that would be YOLT) Mr. Wint and Mr. Kidd were great henchmen. 15. On Her Majesty’s Secret Service (2) Lazenby's wooden acting and constant over-dubbing of his voice shows he was not a good actor, slow in the middle, poor rear projection work. However the story was awesome and the cinematography was top notch for that era. 16. The Living Daylights (7) This film has two distinct parts to it and it seems disjointed but the fight on the cargo net was one of the best fight scenes in any Bond film. 17. Goldfinger (6) I used to rate this higher but each rewatch it drops, It’s slow paced (golf isn’t exactly exciting). And the constant use of Connery acting on a set in London then cut to the other actors he is conversing with at the actual locales really bugs me. It also suffers that it is sandwiched between FRWL (Connery’s best film) and TB (Connery’s best acting) 18. Casino Royale (3) This is a decent action/super-hero movie, highly predictable, but it’s not bond, in fact it comes off as a anti-Bond film. Craig is a dumbed-down brutish Jason Borne/superhero action star with mental stability issues. He would never be able to pass the tests to be a 00 (I know they tried to gloss over this later). Just like Goldfinger's golf, poker for 30 minutes isn’t exactly exciting so let’s drug him (everyone saw that coming but it makes no sense). Don’t get me going on the stupid torture scene. I didn’t find much chemistry between Bond and Vesper and her death was comically unrealistic. 19. Tomorrow Never Dies (16) 2nd worst villain in the franchise, overly long superhero action sequences that are not very bondesque (NOTE: helicopters don't fly like that). The plot, which was full of holes already, has aged terribly, no chemistry between Wai Lin and Bond, the stupid side plot of Paris and a dull ending. The only reason it is this high is that the acting in the film from everyone was stellar. 20. You only live twice (13) I find this Connery’s worst, the plot was stupid, the scenes seemed hodge-podged together, the action was choppy. Little Nellie was unbelievable back then and even worse now. And the volcano lair - sheesh, this movie has not aged well. And it was just made to appease the huge Japanese fan base, hence why it spent so much time explaining Japan - a boring sellout. 21. The Man with the Golden Gun (24) The worlds greatest assassin lures other tops assassins' to his carnival fun house with his midget henchman. Top that with the worst Bond girl, Mary Goodnight and this film fails. Christopher Lee was great and the locale was awesome. 22. Moonraker (21) Has the best acted scene by Roger Moore - the centrifuge scene. Other than that it is a stinker. 23. Spectre (17) Dull car chase, Blofeld is reincarnated but he is boring as hell and the plot twist was ridiculous. Highly unrealistic action sequences. Craig acted just like he did in CR and QoS but that is very different than his character acted in SF so there is absolutely no continuity here, as if M never died. 24. Quantum of Solace (14) This is the only “F” Bond film, I actually walked out of the theater half-way through it. Worst villain, horrible editing, goofs galore, boring and utterly untenable plot, unrealistic action sequences, schizophrenic bond girl, ughhh unwatchable.

    i still hate that craig is bond, but like many say, he is in his best in skyfall, the only movie that feels like a bondmovie, the rest is shit and his last, well at this time he could have done both 25 and 26 in the series. first bond was up in 2019, 2 years later and we still will never see this one, becuse it will be so bad for true bondfans. anyhow at this fall we could have gotten bond26, but still on barbaras woke bond, with craigs touch of it making it more woke and politian....

    i dont agree on the list and some comments about the movies, and never liked when they say dalton was to be like in the books, thats not true, he and craig are so far off, the man who like the book bond bond is connery, after that, little a bit of lazenby. It's interesting because I've read some of the old Fleming novels so I was speaking from knowledge of the literary version of the character. I suppose though it could depend on which books you've read because I have been told that he becomes more like Connery the further in the series goes. I never got around to reading the later ones. In the first few books at least though, Bond is a bit more human and vulnerable and that's what Dalton was aiming for. Actually I also think that Lazenby's movie in that sense got even closer than most of Connery's movies. Now that does NOT mean that I think Lazenby is a better Bond than Connery because certainly not. However Peter Hunt, the director of On Her Majesty's Secret Service, was more interested with capturing some of the more human elements of Bond from the books than some of the previous directors of the series to that time. You'll get no argument from me though that Connery is the best Bond because, while Fleming was his creator, Connery and Terence Young gave him life cinematically. I am in the end a bigger fan of the films than the books so the majority of my gratitude for that goes to Connery. Lol and yeah the sunglasses and the beanie hat are indeed kind of stupid. I just was a bit camera shy and didn't want people in my day job to spot me honestly haha.

      Timothy Dalton was legally allowed to sail of with *_both chicks_* in License to Kill. He could have cited the precedent established in From Russia with Love when Bond got 2 girls at the same time (done off camera due to time restrictions). There were only 76 other women in Bond's life, so there may be a few exotic STDs floating around his PPK if you know what I mean...

    Where is Octopussy and For Your Eyes Only? Younger kids lists of best bond films all have Goldeneye way too high and Casino Royale and Skyfall in the top 3. Goldeneye is good but gets overrated because of the video game. I think Spy Who Loved Me is arguably #1. It is almost flawless.

    • @cinemike8207
      @cinemike8207 4 года назад

      For Your Eyes Only is ranked at #9 and The Spy Who Loved Me is ranked at #8, so they both did make my top 10. Octopussy is actually listed at #20 in my part 2 video which ranks the rest of the movies. So it's a bit lower for me but keep in mind that even the movies at the bottom of my list I do still enjoy watching. I can see that you're a Roger Moore fan since you mentioned three of his films as ones that you'd include high on your own list. See this just comes down to personal taste but even though I found Moore a ton of fun, he was not my favorite Bond. His movies some times were just a tad too over the top for my tastes. Don't get me wrong, some times I like my Bond a little over the top and the Moore movies are really enjoyable for that mood. I was just always more of a Sean Connery fan, especially because most of his films felt closer to the Ian Fleming books. As far as Goldeneye, Casino Royale and Skyfall goes, most of the rankings that I've seen from both the younger and older generation have listed them in their top 10. In fact, I can't think of a ranking in recent years that hasn't included them and I personally feel for good reason. They are solid, Skyfall even with it's overly convoluted plot still had some of the best character moments. Keep in mind that Skyfall didn't make my top 3. At heart, I'm mostly into old school James Bond. Sean Connery is undoubtedly my favorite and so his From Russia With Love has that number 1 spot reserved. Also my number 2 I think is a somewhat unconventional pick from the old days. OHMSS has started to get the love that it always deserved in recent years but I don't see too many rankings place it as high as I did. Even though Lazenby is not the best Bond, I really loved that one. It's especially better once you read the Fleming book and see how faithful it is. Each to their own though.

      @@cinemike8207 I respect your opinion. Everyone does have their own Bond, own tastes, and memories of seeing them for the 1st time. Everyone's a critic...including me....Ha...Enjoyed the video...especially being homebound with the Coronavirus going around. Nice work!

      @@STONESGAM Thanks I appreciate that man! Yeah the Bond series is interesting because it thrives on both changing things up while also not changing certain things at all. There is a formula that must be followed but the approach to the movies has switched around a bit. So there is certainly a diversity, with each Bond actor informing the tone to their movies. This is one of the things that I love the most about this series. I always enjoy talking about how others rank these films.

      Yeah we have the same movies in our top ten for the most part, just in a slightly different order. In the second part to this video where I rank the rest of the films, I ranked License To Kill at number 11. I do talk about how I almost included License to Kill in my top ten and in retrospect, if I were to do it over again then I'd definitely had put it in here. Some people are a bit critical of that one but I liked how edgy it was. It was ahead of it's time as the Craig films have taken a darker approach as well.

      Review Of The NERDS Yeah, I love License to Kill. I don’t like the living daylights because that one seemed to straight to be a joke. But License to Kill is dark but also Shlocky in a way to where you can have fun with it. It’s dark, but it’s not serious if that makes any sense.

    Nice to see licence doing well so far as it's one of my favourites from a British fan I still feel it gets a bit of a bad rap from the fans unfairly compared to late 80s action films imo my only complaints are the out of place roger moore elements and felixs cheerful mood at the end of the film although it does star my favourite bond baddie in sanchez

    I’m digging the skull cap and t-shirt! I really enjoy this movie! It’s not as good as it could’ve been and should’ve been, but still a fun watch for me. It feels like the animated films, in my opinion. I love the characters and action, but the script left something to be desired. All or most of the heroes should’ve had their own solo films prior JL. I enjoyed hearing your take on it. I actually just uploaded a review for this, too. Great review!

    I was so happy when I saw that you put License at the 11 spot. While it's actually my #1, I'm just happy whenever someone can at least see some of it's many great aspects. Such a shame that Dalton never got to do a third one...

    • @cinemike8207

      Oh yeah I totally agree. I think he was the first Bond that I saw actually. He was really underrated and ahead of his time. He was taking the series in a similar direction that Daniel Craig eventually would successfully. I guess audiences back then just weren’t ready for him. If you watch my top 10 list, I include The Living Daylights in there.

The top 10 of your ranking in particular I really like :) I grew up watching Connery, Moore and Brosnan (my mom showed us Dr. No when I was 6 or 7 :D), so when I first watched On her majesties secret service and both Dalton films, it felt very distant to me, but in time I really grew to love those 3 movies. Majesties is actually on my #2 spot now and Daylights is also in my top 10.

    In retrospect. I have, over the years, purchased ST:TOS a number of times, and I am a massive fan of TOS crew......only. But there is always a limit to how many releases one is willing to hand out their hard earned cash for. Before my move to the States and living in England I bought everything I could on VHS, then replaced them with DVD, and again on HD DVD. After moving to the States in 2012 I, yet again, purchased them - but this time on Blu-ray. I decided to hold back from pre-ordering the 50th set to see what would happen. And then low and behold I was able to get TAS and TWOK: Director's Cut on Blu-ray as well. Everyone's pockets as well as patience and common sense has limits. And all the info on the extra disc is available.....if you know where to look for it. So what did I do with the money I had put aside for this set? I bought The Wand Company's TOS Bluetooth Communicator instead.

    I thought that the TV show was okay. I thought this because the two main actors put their own spin in two of the most iconic characters in the buddy cop genre where as the lead actors in the rush hour TV series were just repeating what Chris Tucker and Jackie Chan did which was annoying especially with the actor who play Detective James Carter. I do agree that the series is at the bottom of my ranking for Lethal Weapon. Here is my ranking of the Lethal Weapon film series : 1. Lethal Weapon 4 2. Lethal Weapon 2 3. Lethal Weapon 3 4. Lethal Weapon 1 5. Lethal Weapon TV show
