this thank you video goes out to @officialmortius and everyone else who helped me get this far. you're all amazing, and I never would've expected my silly little videos to get this much attention. stick around for more analysis videos and a "behind the scenes look" video at how the average danger motif hunt goes down. you're not ready for the multidimensional banana split. again, thank you all ...

Every Danger Motif in EPIC: The Musical Sagas 1-6 (+Analysis & Visuals)

the danger motif is quite the elusive easter egg in EPIC, so it was hard to track down for the sake of this video. as the name suggests, it shows up whenever danger is nearby in EPIC! for those who don't know, EPIC: The Musical is an awesome musical adaptation of The Odyssey, written and composed by Jorge Rivera-Herrans! it's completely sung-through, so you can get the full story through just t...
I find it really cool how both the Odysseus and waiting motifs are very similar to the danger motif
1:39 The actual lyrics is “Well done, ENLIGHTEN ME, what’s your name?”
The moment that warrior of the mind came on zi actually teared up at my obliviousnes
I've noticed that when Zeus sings the chorus to thunder bringer it sounds similar to the first 4 notes of the danger motif but pitched down slightly
I just realised that in the song Odysseus the backing vocals are singing the danger motif-
I love this bc as someone with no musical knowledge I really needed someone to point these out for me 🫶🏾❤
My divine sugar momma can throttle me 🛐
I still can't believe how many times the motif has showed up. I've sang it so many times to myself for so many different songs, but it only ever connected to the Penelope/Odysseus' waiting melody!
4:14 I hear waiiitingg
I love how much storytelling is hidden in the music. It really shows with how much care everything got crafted
Wait. Didn't the Odysseus melody play when his mom was singing?
Freddie :0
@@TheIrishBanana. FREDDIE INDEED!!!! THANK YOU FOR NOTICING :D
Is the danger motif based on the dies eire (I totally messed up that spelling). It’s the stair step pattern that reminds me of it.
well shit i either had a completely different tune in mind or idk what a motif is bc i thought it was the crew melody particularly in "Remember Them" and "Different Beast"
I imagine the messy motif in No Longer You is actually present Odysseus trying and struggling to comprehend what he's being told. Prophecies are cryptic, and the poor man just wants to figure out a way home!
I'd like to add a note as well, that during survive, Odysseus and his men, and Polyphemus both sing the danger motif in the chorus
I'm here from Mortius (finished Ithaca and was looking for others who had a complete run through and just found him) and was so confused about the "danger motif" they were talking about cause I didn't know Jay said anything about this as I refuse to touch TikTok (personal choice) and was confused about what they were saying till they plugged you on OAR. Now that I know it, It's like finding out you walked over a deep pit of snakes and just now realizing that "Danger is Near". Thank you for the wonderful vid!
Eye opening video, fantastic work!
Also: I think the Odysseus motif is in The Underworld during Odysseus' solo to Anticlea
This is amazing
It’s not “you lied to me,” it’s “enlighten me” Just wanted to clarify
@Master-jo1hd im aware! that was just a joke for the sake of the video lmao
Odysseus' motif being so close to the danger motif is wild, though. I wonder if it was intentional.
This stuff is mind-bogglingly confusing to me as a non-musician but it's still so amazing
Hey, do you know what the motif that Penelope sings at the end is? You hear the crew sing it after Odysseus shouts his name at the Cyclops and other points in the musical; did Jay ever say what that one was?
i love how you present these videos, it's wonderfully clear and understandable and i hope/can't wait foor you to do more of these now that we have all the sagas
Isn't his sung in monster? "all I hear are screams..."
Me seeing the thumbnail: "Epic? 😱 Epic the platypus?!"
Really well-made analyses and videos!
Loved seeing your analysis! (even tho i already knew all these :)
(This is 100% a joke) I bet you felt pretty safe making this before Ithaca saga because Teagan had said she was done recording for Epic lol, surprise now you have to remake it unfortunately with all the mini-motifs during Odysseus
Penelopes Waiting sounds liekt he danger motif
I love how the danger motif is just an inversion fo the dies irae. Day of wrath... i.e. death.
HOW DID I NOT NOITCE HALF OF THESE??
4:38 Or perhaps it hints at how dangerous Eurylochus’ confession is because Spoiler Alert for the Thunder Saga when he did end up confessing, Odysseus put him in mortal danger by giving him one of the six torches when they were in Scylla’s lair Edit: This also tracks as when Odysseus tells Eury his confession can wait, the motif stops
Thank you Bog
“now he’s home free” HM… i love how you switch between “this could represent ____” and “he didn’t think this through NEARLY enough” absolutely shitting on ody
ERHU TIME!
How is this work so underappreciated!?
Do one on how often “waitingggg waitingggg” is used
I think Athena is one of the best motifs in the Epic musical. I love how she doesn't even need to be in the song to show she's watching over. For example in Legendary I think its cool that when Telemachus says "Someone give me a sign" we don't see Athena but from the motif we know she is watching or is there.
And like - now that the Ithaca saga is out - You know she is there helping Telemachus during Odysseus (the song) even though her voice isn’t present ahh i love it
@ Exactly
Woaaah I love your analysis bits and collecting all the pieces of various repeating motifs! Repeated motifs are a big reason why I really love Epic, so I loooove this Now that the final saga is out, you now have the full musical to pick from! I look forward to seeing more compilations of motifs obvious and not-so obvious :3
Something I’ve always noticed ever since Jorge brought it up is, the clock ticking whenever Athena uses Quick thought it kinda acts like a metronome and it adds a lot.
Doesn't Athena's motif play briefly during Ruthlessness?
Dang I found some of these but not all of them. How did you get the sheet music?
6:48 I think you were right :)
I love your videos great job
HELL YEAHHHHH her motif is so recognizable i love it sm
is the choir canting "polyphemus" in survive not also kinda the danger motive? or a variety of it (and therefor also the "odysseus" in the ithaca saga HE IS THE DANGER NEAR BY)
