I helped build that dock in 2006-7. Pile-Drivers and Divers Local 2520 Anchorage.

There were 45 mph winds blowing the ship directly at the dock when this happened. The ship was quickly repaired and resumed its cruise.

this is perfectly normal, most older ships like this do NOT have braking systems so the driver actually has to put the engines into reverse or crash into something to stop , it happens all the time. Before you book a cruise ALWAYS ask the question directly `does the ship have the latest braking systems ? ` .... if the answer is no then do NOT board the ship

Did you notice "no tug" written on the side of the boat ? Next time it would be a good idea to get a few of them helping ;-)

I Googled the ship's name, date, and keyword damage, and found the NTSB has a report online regarding the event. The report is numbered MAB1736 and refers to the event as an allision.

Captain came in too close with the approach. Underestimate the wind , current and high windage area of the ship. Drifted in too fast that the thrusters and engine wont be of any help to move her out again.
