Why is "Nove Croci" a phenomenon? You might think it's just a passing train-what's the big deal, right? But we all know how a high-speed train usually looks and sounds. This place, however, is different, and that's why it’s considered a phenomenon. The strangest part is that there’s no sound to warn you. Your brain doesn’t register any hint of what’s coming, so when the sudden, violent gust of ...

Amazing Italian town with old buildings narrow streets. Thank you Mam
Thank you for your kind words! ❤️
The Apartment managers there don't do a good job.. Having rental properties there makes sense if you live there and take care of them yourself.. I rented our place in Scalea in August; through Airbnb It went okay; although we didn't any more renters since then..
You are absolutely right. If you live there and take care of your property rent yourself, it might work. In fact, for 5 years, we had constrantly a lot of renters every season. However, during 5 years, renters beat the property up so much that everything went downhill extremely fast, like pipes, electric wires, balcony. Those things are NOT fun to fix...
@OurUnspoiledItaly You end up with less money in your pocket with Airbnb but it has its advantages. They pay for damages that renters cause and their review system keeps renters better behaved..I only listed my property last July so I only got August I have another Airbnb in Aruba that I've successfully rented for over 7 years. I have a great property manager too( in Aruba); so that helps
I am from Bangladesh. I love your vdo so much. How I can go Italy pls and pls help me😢
Thank you very much! In Southern Italy, the prices are very inexpensive. The worst thing is the air tickets. They are always a problem also for us... If you want something very much, it can happen. Just don't give up! ❤️
YES!
Thank you! ❤️

Thanks a lot!❤️
So happy for you and yours. I'm living vicariously through your posts. ❤
Awww! Thank you very much for your kind words! ❤️
Love you too
😊
What did you do with your luggage as I want to make a stop there for a few hours?
Oops! I was afraid that somebody would ask me this question. 🤦🏻♀️ The luggage could be a problem. Although my daughter was dragging her suitcase all over Rome. She visited half the center that way on her stop from Paris to Calabria. Sapri is very small and flat. The train station is just a few streets from the beach. So it's a perfect candidate for this short trip. ❤️
Thanks for sharing your experience. Glad you are not leaving this beautiful city.
So nice of you
Beautiful place 😍
Thank you very much!
Nobody from California should ever be allowed to come to Italy.
Apts scare me because of noise and cigarette smokers
🏢
Apts worry me because of noise and cigarette smoke.
Neither of our apartments was noisy at all, in fact the first one was dead quiet off season. I've never noticed smoking in any apartment or hotel we've been in.
Thank you for sharing your experience. Very helpful.
Glad it was helpful! Thank you!
I don’t know what in California is so much better than living full time in Italy. The cost of living is a fraction of what it is in California. Unless, it’s because you are not yet retired and are making a small (or large) fortune in California. I don’t like the high prices, rude people, backwards politics, and the worst drivers in the world. To think I actually live in Las Vegas. The only way California is a wonderful place to live is if you are wealthy. Italy has 7% exclusion areas, which means for 10 years you only have to pay 7% income tax on your income. You have to find these areas and often they are not by the beach. After the 10 years, it goes up to the regular amount, which can be as high as 45%. It’s much lower if you don’t make a lot of money. This is one of the reasons why people move out of Italy. The Italian economy has been hurting for years. There are many more retired (elderly) people out there than gainfully employed younger ones. Because of a lack of substantial industries, many younger people opt to move out of Italy for financial reasons. Also, if you own a home in Italy and your parents pass leaving an inheritance home to you, Italy sees that as you being rich for some reason. Often their elderly parents didn’t put any money into upkeep simply because they didn’t have the money and they couldn’t do the work. They sell the property to the Hamlets (towns) for a dollar rather than pay the high taxes on the property. For this reason, many home go abandoned for years. You hear about how you can buy a home in Italy for one Euro. The problem with this is that they are the really trashed homes in bad parts of town. Even if you invested thousands into doing the repairs, because of the areas, you will never be able to get what you put into the place. Please understand that I am not saying to NOT live in Italy or purchase a home. There are homes that have well below California market values that make finding a nice comfortable house in Italy but probably not next to the beach. Also it doesn’t hurt to mention other Countries that are affordable, which offers every nice places close to the beach (within a block away) like Kenitra Morocco. A fantastic place in Italy is Bellagio. It was the inspiration for the casino in Las Vegas. Homes there hold their value, it’s safe, a bit tourist yet still comfortable with more of a home-town friendly feel. The lake is pleasant and so is the weather.
Great info! Thank you for your comment!
Impossible! California and Europe are not a good match at all.
actually the first couple of years were good, made money, but then we realized we didn't want to spend our time there dealing with repairs and stuff, I wanted my time there to be for me
I think some may be confused and think you are leaving Scalea. Please clarify. Thanks and best
Hopefully its cleared up now, we aren't going anywhere.
With the renovations on our property complete, we thought too of renting it during the time we're not there. We opted against it for many of the reasons you've laid out. We may change our minds in the future but for now we're just going to enjoy the place while we're there (we'll be there again in a couple of weeks). Thanks for the video and hope we can meet up in the future.
We agree, the thing is when we bought our goal was to have a rental not live there and that's what that apartment was, our new place is our home.
Calabria is not the place to live in Italy . Go north !!!!! Very north!!!
We love the South, but we adore the whole Italy. Every part of this amazing country has SO much to offer.
I’m Neapolitan. I’ve fallen in love with Tuscany & Liguria.
Some of this Does not make sense. MOST OF THIS is common sense..
Thank you for your comment!
Thank you so much for all the concern and love you've sent our way. The story is more involved, but we are not going anywhere, we love Scalea and all of our friends there.
Did you sell both apartments? Sold one and kept the other? It is difficult to tell from the video. We visit Italy each summer but spend most of the time in the north near Milan but we were planning to visit the south next year.
Originally we bought our apartment as a rental, with no intention of living there, but the more time we spent there the more we realized we needed a place to call home and we found out we don't like to be landlords
This is why I don't want to rent my new apartment out. I hope I can afford it without having to rent it out. I'm glad you found a different apartment in Scalea that works better for you.
We found the wear and tear weren't worth it for us to deal with. My dad owned lots of rental properties and I was the maintenance crew, so that kind of work doesn't interest me.
