I just got a 2025 honda crf250r and idk its just me or does the high speed not actually change the high speed dampening? Ive gone a full turn softer and can barely feel it get any softer on. Acclerating bumbs or breaking bumbs. I do feel get softer on the face of jumps.
showa high speed adjuster does something. KYB does not. Adjusters can not do revalve size changes - they do small size changes - revalves are so you can do larger changes than what clickers can do - there no real magic to a revalve other than that
@HPRaceDevelopment i do have a good understanding of what u just said but when i compare to a 2020 250sxf that i had i can feel the high speed pretty good when i udjust it unlike showa. I was actually wondering if you offer something that can make the showa udjuster like the wp. Or are they pretty much the same?
Great discussion..

I've been saying for years, the Japanese should de-stroke a 450, back to 400cc, a smaller spinning crank has less gyroscopic mass ...... bike feels lighter, turns quicker.
People swear the 350 is slower despite all back to back data suggesting otherwise. So long as mentally someone can say they lost because of displacement they will
Thanks for your videos! They really help me understand the 4stroke hop ups and what is worth the money vs what’s not.
My old 350 always won drag races against 300s and 450s despite those bikes feeling faster on trail. Now I get why
ridden 350s for 6 years loved that thing, but went to a 450 this year, no regret... yet
I think saying that the air density increases by the addition of fuel is kind of misleading. One of the arguments put forth for direct injection is that you can get 8% more air in the cylinder since the air doesn't contain fuel. So you could say that the air is more dense with the absence of fuel. Although that isn't technically correct either.
@@kraftzion if the incoming charge is not more dense, where is the power from? DI is for emissions and in all serious forms of testing that I have looked over, makes less power than port injection or in this scenario whatever we call end of port injection its been heavily tested in various car engines that carbs and injection relocation farther away from ports make more power - and in that testing the data always show cooler intake air temps. In my opinion - most of the power we gain is charge density - a small amount is improved vaporization which is DI downfall currently - leading to poor particulate emissions
Super cool. Now show me a modded 250 versus a stock 350!
@@rickejosh1 we have a chart of a really good 250 posted on our enduro bike video its not “close” but if we do the power vs mph chart it would be surprising to people

@@BrockBaker-fd6gi i agree as is I believe 350 is ktms best seller
I’m going to make a bold statement and say that for 99% of the riders a 350 is all you need or might even be too much I mean not everyone can ride 60hp I’ve never rode a 350 but have rode 250f and 450f and I feel like the 250 AINT enough and to me the 450 is too much unless it was a quad but that’s my opinion and that’s also why they make multiple cc bikes not everyone is the same

Roczen and Cairoli showed the 350 is very competitive.
True, Herlings and Cairoli whooped everyones ass at the MXON in 2012 in Lommel on 350's. Still Tony moved away from the 350 in his last seasons...
@@wernerxldata Cairoli won 3 championships on the 350
Can't wait for the next one. Very interesting data. WHO KNEW? Is a 250 even close to a 350 in the same manner?
Long ways off in power - but the TORQUE at the tire 1-4th gear is really really close - so it will drag race with a 350/450 pretty well
350 kan have more HP then a 450......but its HOW the 450 dilevers power is what i want
For 90 percent of the riders there is no need for a 450.even a 350 isn't used to its potential.but the more power you have the more you can move it around to your liking and ride it like you want.more bottom more mid or more top.a 350 has a little less to move around but good and a 250 its not as drastic to move around.a 250 guys use in the 450 class and get into the mains.but the 450 is easily able to move it around in power.
How would VE be effected by the difference in temperature for each displacement?... for example.. would the power diminish exponentially as ambient temperature goes up and density goes down?
@@stangbanger6445 all engines affected the same due to air density changes.
I ride a 250f, since turning 30 this year and racing primarily vet races (30+ expert) I’m usually the only 250 on the line. 90% of the track I don’t feel at a disadvantage, only where it’s really deep & especially the start. Not a big fan of the way 450s ride, rode a 350 and really enjoyed it. Was really planning on snagging one until all these issues with ktm, now a bit hesitant.
@@BikesandBlickeys I used to be 30 plus expert and raced a 250f for a short stint and had the same experience…rarely was it any loss on track - mostly your ego when someone beat you on a 450 and you told yourself they were better because it was a 450… i dont think ktm is going anywhere - i think their parent company was dumb in many ways but they still sell a great end product. worst case they sell the same current bike for longer…as they have boatloads of them made and we see them pull out of some racing and maybe gasgas or husky get chunked ofd
@ I get that, and agree it seems like the majority of riders ride 450s out of ego. It does get a bit frustrating watching guys walk by you 20-30ft out the gate after you got a better jump. Maybe my starts just need more work hahaha
@ it’s really the loss of track position off the start and the ground needed to make up after
In principle the larger bore area should prevail but it's surprisingly close in practice. Safe OEM tuning for a pump gas knock limit of the larger 450 bore at lower rpm is probably a good chunk of the reason. Another would be the similar size of the intake and exhaust systems that are relatively smaller for a 450 than a 350 or 250 while having to meet the same noise limit and fit into the same vehicle size constraint. A tuned 450 on high octane, high rvp, 4% oxygen fuel should crush the 350 pretty well. Few riders could do it justice.
@@jaymckoskey25 yes its no comparison if the 450 is allowed to be uncorked to max potential. The real question is how much power is needed…
That drag race would be splendid.
You should do the math to show each curve with exactly the same speed at the rev limiter. Normalizing all to 50 mph at the fuel clip would be a great way to compare HP curves.
Yes, that's the correct way to accurately compare actual power output once normalized. The actual chart shown is all bikes shown in 2nd gear - which is how they are "ridden"
But as you mentioned the gearing can always be changed so that peak speed is rather arbitrary. In practice any particular desired peak speed in second gear could be hit within a percent or so.
Low rpm performance is important. Making the same power at a lower rpm is always better. One thing you didn't mention is a slower spinning engine has less gyro effect and therefore makes the bike turn easier and feel lighter. The weight of reciprocating components is important too but these new 450s have some light rotating assemblies and combined with low rpms really makes them feel light on their feet. I don't know why you'd choose a 350 unless you're a really light and small rider and the 450 is too fast for you.
How big difference in hp does it make with a rear steel sprocket vs a aluminium on a 450 / 250 2 stroke? just got a steel one for the longer life span but maybe better to get aluminium for the rotational mass?
Yes,, all true, But when the 350 bogs, the 450 runs eights around it....
@@Peter_Granfors 350s bog?
@@HPRaceDevelopment Yup, down low. say you are riding at ~1500rpm in the woods in wet soaky ground, an old 601 husky will just rip.. And a 450 will at least do it better than a 350. Plain physics.
Yeah well Carolli says otherwise at a pro level but you confirmed nicely what i have always said and that is no need for a 350 unless fashion is your thing. See the touque of the stock 450s and the hp where you ride a 450 , thats the reality and they are bone stock and pump gas. So 350 fancy fuel ecu and who knows what else to make on paper more hp at the very top 250 like powers on paper revs times touque , i think the ktm revs to the highest also when the 250 on paper hp MXA toss shootout made more hp. Apart from a signifigant cost to improve 350 you have service intervals on top of those extra costs up front. RPM equals rebuilds , maintenance industry that profits from maintenance. Expenditure is what it is so your spending even more money again to stop the 350 handgrenades Bang . 450 or 250 is the catergorys and the smart money goes 450 torquing the lower rpm around while ya 350 is pinging up in the revs , built engine type rpm to make that hp thousands of dollars and have to buy race fuel. The Church of 350 marketing is the biggest amazement proven without a Dyno hehe , content creators and industry Mechanics Marketing contracts and Suspension tuners love the ktm gravy money train . It just is ! Kaleb Russel thats called marketing people , you will never hear about the Maintenance and upgrade costs of that 350 , and if Allowed in the shill show gncc competetors on other manufactured 450s you would have realised Stew Baylor flogged everyone on the 450 fx . Marketing billions of dollars and huge engine rebuild costs on top of that to create a 350 best Perception .
So a 250f pipe on a 350f give little more torq down low and less top end, If you have a 270kit on it does it also need to bigger pipe? Its only 20cc
@@bernardvanderveen7656 we found certain pipes to work much better on good running 270s than othets
Do you have any videos on the dyno numbers for your 300cc big bore kit for the yz250f
Id like to see if aftermarket pipes without a tone actually make more HP. And then with a tone. And on this 23+ 350 or other bike. Tell us if the pipe manufacturers are lying to us!
@@amacoutdoors2076 without a tone? what do you mean
@HPRaceDevelopment Meaning if guy bolts on a full fmf system and does nothing to the ECU, (runs the stock ECU) does it still increase HP? My bet is that it decreases HP but I'd like it to be different.
@HPRaceDevelopment So yes Tune not tone 🤣🤦♂️
Please do the wheel speed chart of 125 150 250 2t compared to 4 and don’t forget the 6 speed
Let's see the drag race and some lap time comparisons.
I switched back to 2 strokes because I got tired of forking out $1k just in parts every time my KTM needed a top end rebuild and that was doing the work myself. IMO there are a lot of really clapped out and blown up 4 strokes out there because the maintenance is simply too expensive
I tune my TX300 so that I can ride it in the woods with the throttle wide open without the bike doing anything bad or making me exhausted. I spend a lot of time in 4th gear when most riders are in 2nd. Traction. Momentum. You can always hit the clutch if you need a boost. There's only so much power a rider can handle and that is how you should think when choosing a bike.
Same thing with a 450 traction low revs and torque with momentum is how i ride the 450, your tx 300 sounds good that set up probably the same just touque it around and flow fast .
The professor in his laboratory 🥼🧪
Great vid D
Mike Alessi and Antonio Carolli both proved the 350 was competitive with 450s, but I've got to assume the 450 is easier to ride fast on or more Austrian sponsored riders would be on them.
Yes they did. I think lack of true knowledge on the subject and the deeply routed insecurity that a 450 could be better hold back pros from choosing it. Not to mention this video only showcases a stock 450 - in modified form there is no power comparison - the 450 can easily put out more than a 350. Now - the bigger question then becomes how much power is enough…the e bikes will very quickly challenge the limit of what people really need
Imagine the Expense getting those 350s to compete and then the costs of maintenance , Huge ! Carolli said it himself anyway he needed the 450 .
Cairoli had 410 in reality
Roger de Coster already said it in an interview a while back. It's no problem for us to make stronger, more powerfull engines, but the riders need manageable power to be faster.
Is a 350 competitive. Ya absolutely, as it's 90 percent rider skills, and most riders aren't capable of holding a 450 wide open all the way around the track. A pro on a 125 will still smoke most guys on a 450
So 450 it is. Size wins. No replacement for displacement.
not sure we showed that…
@HPRaceDevelopment The torque curve was shown. Not even close. But, forget the dyno & ride them. The 450 rips & rips harder from anywhere in the rpm range compared to a 350. The 350 is cool but needs to be flogged on to run with a 450.
Smoke and mirrors. No the 350 is not competitive, Apart from a couple of guys who ran them for clicks , nobody rides the 350, which is legal in the open class, because the 450 is smoother, less frenetic and cancels out mistakes like bad line choices with a flick of the wrist. Maybe Barcia and his ilk could make sense of it but that's it.
ac222 won a lot of world championships on custom works yzf 400s and then 350s…
Of all the current 450 riders, Barcia is probably the most able to make a 350 work out there against the 450s.
their's no replacement for displacement. Peak HP numbers are not the end all. I do prefer a 350 though.
@@fox13z400 all things being equal - but 450s arent equal in std form…so its a toss up!
