Treins...where
Token pouches like these were used very much in New Zealand and Japan. Great 👍 video!
Afrikaners in the glory days of steam in South Africa. Real men doing real work. 🫡
Those were the days.!! Wat n goeie verlede. SAS@H was n goed geoliede maatskapy, uitsluitlik vir die SA publiek.!
Toe die land nog gewerk het 🫡
Wonder if sharl is still with us in the karoo somewhere
Good old South Africa 👌👌
Retired SAA pilot here. Those were certainly the good old days!!! Everything has been trashed, EXCEPT the memories.
Greetings How about doing the same about paper orders A order B permit and so forth Thank you
An amazing video of a time when the fabulous SA Transport Services was the employer of the largest number of employees of any organisation in both in Africa and the entire Southern Hemisphere. The SA Railways serviced not only South Africa, but transported freight, passengers and millions of tons of export goods to most other countries in Africa. What a legendary organisation it was. But, South Africa has gone from the third most powerful economy on Earth to junk status in far less than 30 years. The big question is HOW??? What an earth-shattering mess we are in under an absolutely useless current regime!!!
6.00am power of the wheel
Very sad things in this country isn't like it was those years back very heartbreaking indeed
It's interesting to know how hard people worked in the old days, to keep South African railway lines and trains in mint condition, now it's an eyesore, metro rail nearly collapsed, infrastructure falling apart, fraud and corruption destroying the the most important method of transport to Cary big quantities of humans and cargo
I was many times asst for Vernon Saayman in Saltriver Depot. Good old days.
Are the levers based on Dutch practice?
Correct.
thanks, interesting mix of Dutch levers and British signaling practice
Wow this brings back great memories for me. I remember Sharl very well indeed. He was always asking for coal from us on the locos. As we approached the station I would pile up a load of coal onto the edge of the footplate. As we approached the signal box we would give a few blasts on the whistle just to let him know. As we passed I would push all the coal off the footplate and once we passed hevwould go and collect it from along the trackside. Great times indeed
Those were the days. Sadly a ew order has taken over. The railways can no longer be relied on, a d the Airways is all but gone. So why has this happened. Thank God I was bourne into this age depicted in the film. But it has all change now. Such a shame.
Very interesting to see people working on the railways . Unlike today where you never see any track maintenance, just rusted rails running newish locomotives and refurb wagons . The rails are so bad it cause so much noise and vibration inside passenger cars .
I caught hundreds of them mostly at full speed. And thankfully never missed one. I had a jar of vaseline in my lunch tin. Because at fullspeed with a passenger train it would leave a serious bruise on your inner arm.
To him inthe old days
Driver at 4e controls mr h l kitshoff was asst many times
Where might I be able to obtain the full movie "The Return of the Giants"?

Mooi film, laat my terug dink aan tye toe my oorlede Pa nog op Spoorweg gewerk het! Ek self het vir SAS/SAR gewerk in die 1980s, lekker ou dae!
All standards have gone to Hell in a handbasket
You can only blame yourself....
@@truth-Hurts375Bullshit. The dumb munts of the ANC are to blame.
When we had a world class train and rail network fully functional before we all know what.
Stop beeing an idiot....its a world wide thing....nothing to do with the ANC.Its came to a standstill long before 1994.
I could add to that with a correction We had the best railway in the world Not only for looks but also for safety until it was utterly destroyed by you know whom So sad
VAN A CHOIR THIS DAMN PHONE CHANGES WORDS BY ITSELF DUMB THING
Thank you so much for posting these videos. You have no idea how important it is to us in the SA rail enthusiast community to be able to access things like this, I am now a loyal subscriber and look forward to seeing anything else you post! Are these coming out of the Transnet archives, or from personal collections?
They are all personal with permission from old TV film productions. Its very rare to come across old footage of SAR, so whenever they come available, I shall try post.
Apart from the Van A choir System we also ran on paper orders A B C D E F and so forth even one for the motor trollie
@@SARsignalsNostalgia I would love to obtain the complete movie "The Return of the Giants". Do you have a tip?

Ohh my word the thrill ❤️❤️❤️. Makes sense why most of the old school railway employees are railfans. Today's employees are just workers and it ends there
