Patterns in Watercolor Stained Glass
I love to use a stencil and just use up pigments in my homemade sketchbook. I’m not sure this pattern has a name, but it’s very abstract shapes and it was a fun little session using up the blues and greens in my old palette. This homemade journal is 9x12 so there’s more real estate to cover but it’s so relaxing. Join me for some meditative fun. @FaberCastellGroup

Mijello Mission Gold part 6

Last but not least! There are four leftover colors from my school yard pick ‘em when I set up my color wheel. These colors are no less fun however and I love this entire set. This excercise/organizational project was done in part to just get familiar with my own supplies and in part to have a moment to explore each pigment in it’s own right. I’m very pleased with the end result (which was never...

It’s a day of boring browns! No! Who would swatch browns anyway? Well, me. I love browns for the richness that they bring and they are an important part of my artwork, even if they rarely take center stage. This set of Mijello Mission Gold watercolors has 6 browns included and since we are swatching, I am including the browns and candidly … i love them! Even Browns deserve some love. Come watch...

The third installment of swatching out this 34 piece set from Mijello is still providing some fun surprises with some single pigment paints and this very warm set of colors today is very pleasing to the eye (at least to me). A quiet few minutes of paint swatching is always welcome to me and I hope you enjoy it as well. @timholtz Here's a link to Mijello Mission Gold Water Color Set amzn.to/4h9UGF7

I continue to explore the set of 34 pigments from Mission Mijello Gold watercolors. This set continues to provide suprisingly good paints and I’m enjoying getting to know them. It’s no surprise that I love color. And I found this brand about 10 years ago when I purchased a watercolor palette at my local art store and there was a sample tube of paint inside the palette. Peacock Blue! Not long afterwards, I decided to purchase a set of 36 from Mission Mijello Gold because i loved the Peacock blue so much. ❤😊 I just discovered Willa Wanders recently! I need to take time to do a study of her method... she has an astonishing down and dirty approach to Mother color that is worth taking a look at! 😮❤ I definitely want to give her style a try, but using these stencils like this is really smart! A little zen- tracing and then straight to the painting! Honestly, I would have thought it'd be really tedious, but I can see how smart it is now. ❤😂 I just made a Temu order and put a few interesting stencils in my basket to try this with! ❤

    You are ROCKING this Dawn, I’m especially impressed cause it’s on cellulose! Wonderful Job ! I know that everybody says that Arches is the ‘Gold Standard’ of watercolor paper but I switched to Fabriano Artistico years ago & love it. It’s a great paper comparable to Arches & a bit more reasonable in cost, I buy the bulk packs of sheets (22” x 30”) often as a buy 4 get the 5th free or something similar. Now, I don’t know if you’re aware of this but the sizing in the paper ( usually gelatine ) can spoil or go off if subjected to very much moisture. I too live in a humid climate in SW Ontario ( Great Lakes Basin) so I go to my local Home Depot or Lowes paint dept. and ask the manager to save all of the silica packs when unboxing products. I don’t unwrap my paper from its plastic until I need it and keep it in a large box with all of the silica packs thrown in. I’ve got packs of Fabriano that are 7 years old and are perfectly fine. Hope this helps, keep painting & posting my friend, you’re doing AWESOME 👏👏👏👍👍👍

      Thank you so much♥️! I do have the good stuff (Arches) but I’ve learned over the years to do a test run first. This was a lot of fun and I will definitely do more. The size was daunting but I love the end result. Thank you for the tip about the silica packs. I keep those too and i have them in my paper areas just because it seemed like a good idea, but I had no idea that the sizing could spoil! That’s good to know for sure and I will keep using my silica packs for sure! I’ve bought some Fabriano too but I haven’t used it yet as I’m making myself use up my stash of Strathmore that I seemed to be hoarding for no good reason. Thank you for your kind comments and I will continue to paint and post!

    ❤😂 It is shocking how far the littlest dab of watercolor will go and go and go! The first watercolors that I got was "Doodle-hog"! It's a white label Superior Paint... it's decent for what it is, and it cost less than an empty tin pallette would. I assumed if I stuck with it and use them up I could reuse the pallette for good paints! 😂❤ I still reach for it when I want to just splash around or experiment with something and I've hardly made a dent in it! 😮

    I get bored doing charts for myself, but I love seeing the end results. They look beautiful, and are so very useful. You could sell these! p.s. The Windsor Blue looks flat compared to the others. Is that because it's highly pigmented or because the others are granulated?

    • @dawnmoseleyartist
      @dawnmoseleyartist 17 дней назад

      That’s a great question about the Windsor Blue! I love how saturated it is but you’re right, it’s very flat. I think it’s compared to the granulation in the others. But maybe it’s a bit of both - super saturation and compared to granulating. I was thinking about scanning these and putting them where people could download them, so thank you for that suggestion!

    This was beautiful and very useful. Thank you. Would love to see it all the way dry in daylight, too. 😊 Have you tried the GRIPR paint tube cap remover tool by Golden? Its not perfect but it's a huge help and only a couple of dollars. Paint in caps is the bane of my existence. 😅 I keep a tall trashcan and strong spray bottle on hand and squirt the tops out over the can and a dab on a towel. Its the easiest, fastest way I've found. Of course, if they don't seal well, they'll end up that way anyway. Only tips I know are to give it some taps all around where the cap connects and threads to help break it up (heavy taps but not too hard or the plastic will warp). Soaking the cap in some not too hot water might work if that doesn't. Good luck removing it.

    Been ‘watching ‘ your swatching while organizing my craft room 😮😂… and happened to hear your struggles with potter’s pink. I have heard recently that it is used by folks to mix with reds in order to transform them into granulating reds with little change to the red colours (very few red pigment are naturally granulating. I have Schminke Volcano red, which does granulate, but , oh my, you have to work at it to get an appreciable load of pigment. I’ve promised myself a swatching period once this room is organized enough to feel comfortable/not twitchy in it…starting 2025 in a good way 🤭🥳🤣)
