I used both this and the Sony 50/1.2GM and I think this lens is as sharp as the GM, however, the GM is faster, has better AF and has a lot better CA control. Still the 55/1.8 ends up in my camera bag more often. I love its character and pop.
Even if I had the budget for G Master, I would still choose Samyang.. Sony lenses are very expensive and do not justify their price. Sigma I series are exceptional lenses, I own Sigma 65 mm f 2 and I am very satisfied with its capabilities.Thank you so much!
I own 24-70 and 35-150. But for some reason im still hesitant with this 50mm
I have the 35-150 and been looking into this lens for a while. Mpb had it for a few dollars cheaper but been selling out each time
Loving these videos short, informative, and to the point!
Nice 👍
Thank you! Cheers! 🍻
Everyone talking about how they like 35mm because of size and weight while I walk around with my 1.4 sigma art 35mm which is as heavy as my 85mm and 70-300 together... 😂its kinda love or hate focal length tho , I personally love to use it for weddings/portraits/indoor stuff , and for some reason I hate how it looks when I shoot cars/landsapes . Its funny that I originally bought it for landscapes and I just don't bring it with me anymore when I go out , I just throw on 70-300 on and 85 in my bag (which I LOVE to use for sunsets and landscapes , everyone finds it weird for some reason like its only made for portraits) that way I don't have to worry about 1000$ lens and I have light bag .
Sounds like you’ve got it all figured out! Love the thoughtfulness!
What an absolute terrible video. If this woman can't look you in the eye when speaking to you, she has zero confidence in herself. Thus, whatever comes out of her mouth is useless. I watched less than a minute of this video and gave up. The clip is garbage if a person can't talk directly to you as opposed to speaking but looking elsewhere. STAY AWAY
What lenses do you bring on an 2-3 night backpacking trip?
I usually bring a wide (16-35), a telephoto 70-200 or 85), and possibly a fast prime (35mm or 50mm). Depends on if it’s a job or just a personal trip. If it’s a job, I might bring more lenses and a backup camera body. Hope that helps!
@@TheBergreens That's a lot of lenses. How heavy is your pack (dry)?
Yeah, it is a lot. I'm usually around 25-30lbs without food/water. It varies a lot buy I don't have super lightweight gear either.
@@TheBergreens thanks
Sony? Makes me vomit
Hahaha, yeah, Canon is cool too 😁 Or Nikon, or Fuji 🤙🏻
Good channel you have and good informative videos. But I completely disagree with your take on cameras. I am a wedding and portrait photographer, and I also do a lot of corporate work. I use APS-C Fujifilm cameras for everything I do. Small fantastic cameras with small lenses. The largest lens I have is the Tamron 17-70/2.8. Additionally, I sometimes use manual focus and other times auto focus. I checked my last 3000 pictures and there were 4 that were slightly out of focus. When I say this, it means that it all comes down to knowing your equipment inside and out and not thinking about using it, but just doing it. I use the Fuji X-T2 and X-T3. For me, it's also about being minimalist, especially at events. You also need to know your flashes inside and out.I have met a number of full-frame camera photographers who certainly believe that they can take pictures without flash, as their camera and lens are fantastic in low light. Huge mistake. This is not a critique, as different photographers have different preferences and respect to all those who take good pictures. But you can definitely be a professional photographer without heavy full-frame equipment...
The Fuji kit is intriguing, I’ve had mixed feelings about it but I know several pros who love it. I guess it really comes down to personal preference 😁 Thanks for watching!
@@TheBergreens thanks, keep up the good work👍
🙏👍!
For the hobbyist, does it make sense to have both a 35 and a 50? Currently, I have a 50 and an 85. I want something that allows me to get more in the frame in tighter spaces, but I feel like if I had both a 35 and a 50, one lens would eventually be relegated to sitting on a shelf in a closet. I'd sell my 50, but it's shocking how much less you can sell a used lens for, even if it's in Like New condition. I thought about the 24mm, as a compliment to the 50, but I find 24mm extremely challenging to compose with. Thanks for your wonderful channel.
Yeah sometimes certain lenses don’t have as much resale, it really depends on how old it is. As far as 35 vs 50, I would say they are different enough. I often head out with a 35 and a 50 in my bag. Maybe shop used and see if you can find a deal on a 35? If I had to choose I’d much rather have a 35 & 85 than a 35 & 50. I agree that 24 is a little wider and not as easy to use as a 35. Good luck!
You guys make really beautiful wedding photographs. They're not just documenting an event. You produce beautiful images that stand on their own.
Thanks so much Daniel!
I totally agree that zooming with your feet isn't always a solution. Yes, with enough room, you can fit the same amount of "stuff" in the image, but the perspective changes (i.e. the relationship between the subject and the background).
Brenda, superb video. The links that you shared titled "My choice for a Sony Full Frame 35mm lens" just links to the Amazon start page, for me. Is it possible that the url changed on Amazon's end? Also, I'm guessing it's the lens you were holding, the 35mm f/1.8?
Thanks for the heads up, I’ll double check my links but yes, it’s the 35 f1.8, good balance of price/quality 👍🏻
can you use the sony 85mm to shoot videos too?
Absolutely, it’s a solid video lens. I typically use a 70-200 but the 85 is great for bokeh or low light 👍🏻
@@TheBergreens awesome thank you!
My favorite lens in the 70"s and 80"s.
Nice!
60MP.
But it can do 240 MP with pixel shift 🤩
Still only 60MP. Stacking in camera doesn't mean more MP. @@TheBergreens
I have just switched one of my Sony A7RIV to a Sony A7RV, there will be a long learning curve with a new menu system, but I look forward to use it. 99% of the time I use manual focusing, so the better EVF will help, the IBIS will help me to be more steady for x macro photography. I have just finished the basic setting in the menu system, so tomorrow I will be out in the field 😊
Nice, hope you enjoy it!
@@TheBergreens I really do, I might also switch my other A7RIV to the RV.
Great review, you cut to the chest with respect the time of the viewer. Thanks for that❤
I appreciate that! Always trying to be efficient and helpful 😁
@@TheBergreens you guys are ao awsome, cant wait for your new video
24-70 is everything you need
A solid choice 👍🏻
A 35mm Lens is "the holy grail" of Lenses, if you look back on old compact Cameras with fixed mounted Lenses, then they had 35, 38 or 40mm Lenses and for a very good reason, it is a focal Length that is easy to use for most people that not have much experience with photography. I love the 35mm focal length, When I go with one Lens only, then the 35mm is a high scoring favorite, I have two 35mm Lenses, the Voigtländer APO-Lanthar 35mm 2.0 Aspherical which is second to none in optical image quality ! The other one is the Sony Carl Zeiss Sonnar 35mm 2.8 T* ZA which is so Light and compact, that you always can find space in a bag or pocket for it !
Love that little Zeiss 35mm! I used it for years and love how compact it is!
I never go too budget with Lenses which is the most important when to photograph ! In 2023 I bought a used Zeiss Batis Sonnar 85mm 1.8 T* used for US $550 (taxes included) in excellent condition. The Lens is light and easy to handle, it is a joy to use and I can recommend it
I tried that Zeiss 85 years ago, $550 is a great price!
I have the Sony 135mm 1.8 GM, but it is big and heavy, now I most often use either 110mm or 85mm. If I should have a new 135mm Lens, then it will be the excellent Zeiss Batis Apo Sonnar 135mm 2.8 T*, it is one of the most Light weight 135mm Lenses. I went through many of my photos taken with the Sony 135mm 1.8 GM Lens, most of the photos was taken with aperture 2.8 to 5.6, some larger than 2.8 and some with 8.0 or 11.0, but it was rare and those taken with larger aperture was nor very pleasant, so 2.8 for a 135mm Lens is all I need.
That’s awesome! I love the bokeh at 1.8 but 2.8 is also pretty!
@@TheBergreens I do think that using aperture 1.8 with a 135mm Lens are most often too much to be good !
Great tutorial, well explained, easy to follow, really helpful, good job and thanks for making this video!
You're very welcome! Thanks for watching!
That was nice.
Thanks so much! Glad you liked it!
Great video that sums up the actual art of using the 85mm and not just the nerdy details. A lot here I'd picked up intuitively over the years, articulated well in 8 short minutes. How dare you, lol. Happy shooting! Also loved the 35mm companion video. These are the two lenses I carry in my bag :).
Thanks for the kind words! Appreciate the feedback 🙏🏻
6 years I adapted the Canon 135mm f2 to my Sony & I love it & it’s been an awesome experience
That is a classic lens! So many people love it. And the AF speed is acceptable?
@@TheBergreens When it hits its great, its just not as good as a native mount lens focus wise
100% 👍
Thanks Leo! Glad you enjoyed it :)
Thanks bro. Love it
No problem 👍
Great video! Thank you for the information.
Glad it was helpful!
Wow what this has 61 views? Screw that man! Keep it up I’m so impressed and happy with this video! I would have thought you had 200k subs! Keep going!
Thanks so much for the support and encouragement Sebastian ✌🏻😁
Thank you for showcasing the mics. I'm assuming you're recording this video on the DJI mic 2, if it is indeed so the audio quality sounds great! The budget one you were using sounds pretty decent too though you didn't mention the brand and model. Is it the Zoom F2?
Yes, all was recorded on the DJI mic 2. I was actually surprised by how my budget option sounded. I could hear the difference in my Bose headphones but otherwise pretty decent. Can’t remember the name of my budget lav, it doesn’t have a name on it. The main benefit of the DJI was the noise canceling function to cut out unwanted ambient 😊
I just found out this lens is very good for reptile enclosure, aquarium , where is low light and just focus on one creature
That sounds interesting, you might also look for a lens with a macro capability so you can get even closer 😊
I can only assume that all Imagen and references are for Full Frame cameras What are the equivalent to APSC sensor cameras ? (1.6 crop factor)
I’d look at a 20 or 24mm lens on an APS-C camera. Hope that helps 👍🏻
226 / 5.000 Hello, good morning, question: minute 3:39, the backlight is high, but in front of the couple, do you use it directly on the camera??? Or do you put them found one to the other? Thank you very much. You would help me with your answer. Greetings from Tijuana B.C. Mexico
Thanks for asking, this is actually a 4 light setup with a light just off each corner of the dance floor. No on camera flash, just a trigger. Hope that helps!
@@TheBergreens muchas gracias 👌
Where is yours 35mm samples?😂

Love the 16-35mm G master! Great Tips! Thanks for Sharing!
Glad you enjoyed it!
not sure if it is just me, but, I find too distracting when you change your talking head from the front camera to the side one, why doing that?, it is just like you are talking to me one moment and then suddenly , talking to someone else ...............
Thanks for the feedback 😁✌🏻
Thanks so much for watching! If you have any questions feel free to leave a comment and I'll get back to you :)
what age are your kids? I'm looking for one for my 4yo.

I'm mostly a nature/landscape photographer. However, for family and friends, I always use my 85mm f1.8. I too incorporate foreground/environment with the 85mm using my feet. Additionally, I carry my 35mm which I also use for astrophotography. Great content - subscribed.
Well said! I appreciate the sub!
great video, very helpful, thank you!
You're welcome! Thanks for the kind words!
Huge micro Plastic risk with the receipt printer . Wouldnt give that to my kids
Interesting, hadn’t thought of that :)
Thanks for the advice, although I'll consider taking the Aperture priority route as an amateur, I'm not comfortable enough handling all the parameters quick enough in a wedding setting.
It is committing but once you change you’ll never go back :)
For basically the same price, I think the samyang wins. I have the 85mm samyang on canon mount and it's my favorite lens. Good luck with the channel!!
Nice! I used that a while back in an R6 and it was great! Thank you :)
Hey man, i wish you the best and im glad you are real life content creator not like Gerard Undone

Fair point 😃
