Starting a Photography Business for $1,000
This video was excellent! While many RUclipsrs try to discourage people from using 24-70 zooms by calling them boring, you approached it differently. You highlighted its strengths from multiple angles and considerations, keeping it concise and positive throughout. Really well done!
Thanks so much for the kind words! It’s lovely to get a nice comment like this. There is a reason they keep releasing new 24-70s, they are super handy lenses!
Where did you got those
Which one are you interested in?
What has always keep me away from packable packs are the shoulder straps (or lack of adequate padding - esp. with camera gear). Like the the option, but not sure I'd want this all day long.
Totally understand, I’ve tried a few and some just dig in too much! I only want a bag like this if I’m traveling light or doing short carrys
My shoot carry is Sigma 35 & 85 1.4 and Sigma 24-70. As a portrait shooter, I still prefer primes whenever I can use them, but take a zoom for those difficult weather situations and video. Optionally, I do have the Sony 16-25 zoom for cityscape, creative ultra wide portraits, and video.
That sounds like a perfect kit! Do you like the Sigma 16-28 zoom? I’ve been intrigued by that lens!
For nearly all of my paid shoots now, I just use my Z24-70 2.8S lens. It is one of the best 24-70 lenses out there. Except for only being a 2.8, all the images are equally as sharp and crisp as my primes. For so many of my shoots in the past, I always had a second camera on my Black Rapid shoulder strap, with a prime (usually a fast 35mm or a fast 50mm). However, invariably for over 90% of the final submission to clients, they are usually taken on the zoom. I have a couple of gigs coming up shortly, and I'm just going to take the one camera with the zoom (of course, backups in my bag). However, I live in Perth Western Australia, so perhaps with our ideal climate here, it's different if you come from colder, darker places. Most of my shoots are during the day, usually always sunny and blue skies here. I always shoot with outdoor fill-flash, so it suits me better with the one body having my flash. Trying to cart around two bodies with flashes is a bit harder - hence, my leaning toward just using the 24-70. However, I do like what you say about using it as a prime - choose the focal length. I have been doing that more and more lately. Of course for all my travel and personal stuff, I love my primes.
Sounds like you’ve got a dialed setup! I totally agree that having two flashes is too bulky. Do you ever find yourself needing a telephoto? Like a 70-200 or 135?
@@TheBergreens Good question. For the majority of my shoots, my MO is to get in close with a reasonably wide view. My clients love this because the person is lit up well by the flash, the shot looks dramatic and the wider view gives context. I dislike the compressed, impersonal view that longer zooms give. Most of the other pro's I see at shoots use that method and their images don't stand out. I rarely even use the 70mm end of my 24-70. However, I am also the photographer for Dragon Boating Western Australia. When I cover their shoot days, I have to use my 70-200 to get closer to the boats on the water, or when I'm following them in the chase boat. However, I don't enjoy that part much, I love getting in really close to the teams in preparation or getting them in the boats, with my wide angle and flash! I hope that answers your question.
I don't understand why the 35mm would be more suited to low light conditions. It really depends on the min aperture that renders enough contrast and sharpness for each individual lens. And a priori, a shorter focal length gives more light, all other things being equal (?).
Yeah you’re correct, in this case it is just about the aperture. In the three lenses compared, the f/1.8 of the 35 was a little faster than the f/2 of the 28mm. Pretty slight difference though. Good catch!
Still debating about zoom vs prime😊 ad infinitum 😅
Aren’t we all 🤣 I ask myself this question before every shoot I have 🫣🤣😆
Just bought the Sony 24-70 f/2.8 GM II on Friday.. boy is it sharp. I would have to say the sharpest lens I have ever had. Thank you for the informative video!
Nice! What do you primarily photograph?
What about 70-200?
I love my 70-200! It’s great! Do you have one? What do you like to photograph with it?
@@TheBergreens You mentioned in the video that you would compare 24-70 to 70-200. That wasn't there.
@@jakubwasowicz1533 talked about it very briefly at 2:26. Hope that helps!
I started using an 85 and I find using it for street photography is awesome. Not just portraits
Interesting! I haven’t heard of many people using an 85 for street photography but it sounds like it’s working for you, that’s awesome!! Which one do you have?
@@TheBergreens I have two actually, Yongnuo 1.8 and My wife just bought me the new Aurora Sirui 1.4. Guess I have been a good boy lol
@@smoke362 cool! I'll have to check out the Sirui!
I have the sigma 24-70mm DG DN ii. Love this lens. It is the do all lens. Awesome video. But I always take primes 40mm and 85, along with 70-200 :) Subscribed
Nice! Sounds like a rad kit. Which 40mm do you have? Which 70-200 do you use?
@@TheBergreens Viltrox 40mm 2.5 and I have the Sigma 70-200mm
Thanks for this video, and all the great videos from you and Mark. The 24-70 2.8 GM II was the first lens I bought when I upgraded to mirrorless (A7R5). It is expensive, but the results are beautiful. If anyone is on the fence about buying it, go ahead and get it.
Nice!!! Thanks for the kind words! I loved the GM II when I tried it but ended up with the sigma for budget friendliness. Maybe I’ll upgrade at some point. Gonna do a review on the sigma soon in case you’re interested 😁
@@TheBergreensI'll definitely watch your review of the Sigma. I have learned to buy Sony when they're doing a trade-in sale. I bought the body and lens during such a sale and I got $800 and $300 off, respectively. Those sales aren't advertised well, but check with your local camera dealer if you're interested in taking advantage.
@@kevxster Thats a good tip!
For Nikon Z mount cameras, what 24-70 lens you do recommend?
Sure, happy to help! Let me grab a link for you!
This one is the best quality: amzn.to/3CKUHRk
This one is solid but not as good in low light due to the f/4 aperture: amzn.to/40WLizp
I have one question. You attach the go pro to the helmet by sticker right? and if you fall does it the camera stick to the helmet or just fall out ?
Not sure I’ve taken a hard fall on my head but normal wipeouts it holds just fine 👍🏻👍🏻
Ski pole mount is a game changer! Awesome video, cheers! Liked & Subscribed 👍
Nice! Thanks for being here and hope you have an awesome ski season 🤙🏻
Can I use on crop sensor
Yes but it will be more like a 200mm lens. It might feel pretty zoomed in for everyday use. What camera do you have?
Simple and hugely useful and informative. Great video. That ski pole mount is game changing!
Right on! Hope you capture some rad footage!
Amazing design and alot of thoughts behind…. You dont always need bulky heavy camera bag because let’s be real… for normal day to day urban travel the camera cube it’s enough as long as water dont leak through the camera cube…. If this bag can fits peak design medium camera cube…. This change everything
Totally agree! The medium cube might be a tight squeeze! The smedium cube fits but haven’t tried the medium. Thanks for watching!
Thank you for taking the time to help several us to get a grip on our cash flow and projections for the new year!
So glad it was helpful! I know this stuff can seem simple but it sure does give us peace when we have a plan! Hope it does the same for you 🙌🏻
Ski pole selfie stick is genius mad I didn’t think of that
It’s pretty fun. I saw there is even a company offering a telescope ski pole that extends out the top for 360 cams now. I think it’s called shot poles or something. Pretty interesting even though I usually prefer action cams to 360 cams
great comparison, thank u! I bought the a7rv a couple months ago but got scared because I kept hearing that it’s not the best for low light. This was very reassuring. I haven’t gotten a chance to test it.
Yeah I thought the same thing for a long time 🤪Turns out, it’s a great camera! Hope you have lots of fun with it!! What do you like to photograph?
Interesting video. Hadn't seen that pack before. Could you say something about how the harness work with a fully loaded pack? I have an old Lowe Alpine superlight pack I bought in the late nineties with a similar design (and color) and the shoulder straps are made of some thin, almost mesh material. They worked fine for light loads but got uncomfortable with more than maybe 7-8 pounds. The shoulder straps on the Runabout looks wider, but also very thin. With gear like a camera + extra lens, a tripod, a water bottle and a rain jacket you could easily get over 10 pounds. Did you try the pack "full loaded" and if so, did the straps work well or dig into your shoulders?
I did have it maxed out for a long (6hr) hike and they were ok. I was prob carrying close to 16-18lbs. I think I’d prefer more padding but if you’re on shorter trips or carrying lighter loads it is adequate. Hope that helps! Thanks for watching 🙏🏻
@@TheBergreens Thanks
I have Canon 85 f1.2L ii for 12 years. This is a fantastic lens created by Canon, especially wide open aperture in low light environment at night.
That is a great lens! Do you use it on a 5D mk IV?
@ Initially, I used it on 6D, then I bought 5d mark iv.
Where exactly on the helmet Do you put it?
I like to mount it towards the front of the helmet, kind of half way between the top and the very front. Hope that helps!
Hello, in the snow would you use a protective case or not necessary?
I don’t think it’s necessary 👍🏻😁
what focal length did you use for this video?
This was filmed at about 40mm 😊
What lens (focal length) do you use to film this video (front view)?
I filmed it on a zoom lens but it is approximately 35-40mm. Hope that helps!
I have the 3S and would part with it before I would part with the 2S. It is a great drone.
Interesting to hear! I am excited to test out the 3s, sounds like you're a little underwhelmed though?
I just picked up a used 35L bag because my real estate photo kit outgrew the Lowepro 25L bag I had, and because I also recently bought the McKinnon sling which I love the design of. I was a little unsure, at first, because I was so used to how my gear was organized in my old bag, but the design and quality have grown on my quickly. Very tempted to get the 25L version, primarily because the setup looks so similar to the Lowepro I was using. You might have missed one feature though. I especially like the way the floor of that top loading compartment expands into the bag, origami style, if you need more room.
Oh nice, thanks for sharing your experience and for noting that origami feature!!
I have a very small leica 35/1.4 lens, about 35 years old. I took portrait photos about 3 feet distance. The subject has a thin face and in the photos the face appears plump. I don't understand what's going on.
It sounds like you might be too close to your subject with that lens. Maybe try backing up or switching lenses.
@@TheBergreensthank you!!!
Hello. Recently, there have been many more children's cameras with printing functions. Could you please make an evaluation from the aspects of printing clarity, resistance to falling, photo quality and safety? The main brands are GREENKINDER, YEEHAO, YINOCHE and CILSER.
I'll have to check that out!
How do you use light room to make so much color changes that it look perfect? some sort of presets? or bit by bit editing, the blue look so well. Can I learn from you?
Let me know if there are any specific things you’d like us to cover in Lightroom, sounds like an interesting video topic!
@@TheBergreens Would it be possible to show us the real life footage how you capture those night wedding photo with milky way. and show us how you edit them so stunningly
@@whteephotography Right on, let me see what I can do!
I have a cheap 35mm manual lens and it’s definitely been fun finding my way with it
Glad you're enjoying it!
Had the package delivered to my home and I opened my bag and it's full of rodents!!!!!!
Wow, sounds brutal!
I love your channel. Very educational all the time.
Thanks so much for the support 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
What made the difference in ranking between the Kidamento Model C and the GooPow Kids Digital Camera? Based on the quick glance of the buttons, I suspect they have the same internal components. What are you gaining paying twice as much for the Model C? My 5 and 6.5 year olds recently tried out the camera their 5 year old cousin has that looks identical to the GooPow, and they had a lot of fun with it. I was looking into getting them something similar.
The quality is better all around. It feels nicer and the images are a bit better quality. I suspect it will last longer too. But generally they aren’t that different.
I have the printing camera I buy it 83
Nice one!
I dont use zooms a lot, but I do like my 35-105. probably the best of all worlds
You're talking the 35-150 right? Such a great lens!
when you said gopro turn off it turned off my gopro lmao
hahaha, my fav feature :)
My mom always said beauty is not about price. The existence of kislux makes me believe that true luxury is the expression of one's own style, not the price tag. Here, I found the best explanation of this sentence
🤣
Surprised you do mention getting backwards footage with helmet mount or mounted it on your ski for some third person footage.
I like those ideas! Thanks for sharing 😁🙏🏻
Would you say the ski pole is long enough to film yourself without the additional wide lens?
I did it and the answer is yes
@ awesome. I think I’ll go with this over a 360 cam.
I agree, unless your poles are super short it works well!
Hey. I've heard many people recommend the insta x4. Would you this is better? It's definitely cheaper.
I havent used the x4 but the x3 is cool. I like the simple workflow of a regular GoPro though. Looks like the hero 13 is currently on sale for $300
@ I agree with that. I also don't love the fish eye look.
The truth is, these bags were all overpriced. Now that we know they cost a fraction of the sale price and are so poorly made, itâs clear they werenât worth it. Furthermore, many of these items are knockoffs. There are a lot of knockoffs out there at kislux knockoffs of such good quality that theyâre no longer luxury items.
Interesting take… I think PD knockoffs are probably not nearly as good
I have to say, I understand why people say they don't care about people buying fakes or counterfeit goods, or why people should care. However, people don't necessarily "care" about people who own fake goods. Smart people will buy bags at kislux . In fact, people who have money to buy luxury goods and invest in them do so for a reason.
Strange way to promote your bags 🧐
and I'm waiting for Sony to make an 85 f1.2 lens.
I’m sure that would be a hit!!
I need some advice. My friend asked for help with a family portrait shoot, would the 35 be a good option or should I go with a 24 ? Thanks in advance!!
35mm is good.
I’d go 35 🤙🏻
i am encouraged to buy 35mm f1.8 as a beginnner photographer. thanks.
Right on, hope you have some fun with it!
Nah, I'll stick with WNDRD. Their CEO hasn't freely offered my information to the government, when the government didn't even ask. Not a fan of snitches, either. What an unbelievably out-of-touch move by the CEO of Peak Design.
Wndrd does make a solid bag at a good price!
Any worries about the placement of the straps, and the force it puts on the zipper?
This seems like a valid concern. I did look at this but It seems like it's gonna hold up. Time will tell....
