Here, it's a whirlwind of motion, and regardless my knowhow of weaving, I just cannot wrap my head around how and what they're doing. Hello.. my name is Pedro and I'm a backstrap weaver. And I know how to weave translucent weaving. But there is another way of weaving a translucent weaving without a backstrap loom. It's all done using only a long thin bone needle 🪡 it's like a nett but it's translucent and you can make designs without embroidery. And I believe I'm one of the last person to know how to do it. And I was born here in the United States. A lot that I know are from my grandparents... my family are from the highlands of Guatemala. From San Rafael La Independencia huehuetenango

If people would pay these folks for their work instead of trying to cheap them down to a couple of dollars. If you can afford to vacation down there then you can afford to give these ladies what their craft is worth!

those weavers may not be able to do regular math but they could tell you how much yarn they need for any project, formal education is useful but so is other knowledge. oh and its called being and artist, you use whatever techniques that fulfill your idea, be it by hand, on a floor loom, brocade, embroidered by hand, or machine.

So beautiful to see women dedicated to their art/work.

I just started learning how to backstrap weave. Iv made 3 straps so far, very basic. And my gosh, it is so much work. What these Mayan women can do is truly beautiful and I know I can never do what they do, so much love and many props to them!!!

Me encantan los telares manuales y portátiles, como no podía comprar uno, pues me lo hice de cartón de 2 pulgadas de ancho, en formato de una cerámica de 50 x 50 la parte de los clavos fue con el mismo cartón una distancia cada pestaña de 1 Ctm x1 Ctm en los cuatro lados.luego con hilo de nylon un extremo pegado muy bien por detrás. Y se monta el primer urdimbre total 24 o 28 pestañas de lado y lado. Y se usa la técnica normal.😊
