If I’m not mistaken, by default, the keyboard is spread out in a stereo setup, so lower frequency notes will play slightly heavier in the left side of the mix, whereas higher notes notes on the right side of the keyboard will sound slightly louder in the right side of the mix. This can be changed in the tone settings of the plugin though.

Hi Jason! This question has come up several times over the past couple of months. I believe that Native Instruments may have revamped their NOIRE presets in a recent update, causing the tone to be different than back when I recorded this video. If you go into the plugin tone settings, you may be able to get the particles to be more prominent. For what it’s worth, I have also found that a slight adjustment in my keyboard’s MIDI velocity curve helps make the piano a bit easier to play consistently and consequently, a little bit louder.

Hello! Im seeing several comments like this. I didn’t do any processing on my Kontakt plugin when I recorded this video, so it leads me to wonder if Native Instruments modified the out-of-the-box settings on the instrument. You can definitely that a shot. Something I’ve even done from time to time is adjust the MIDI velocity curve so a steeper amount, so my lighter notes are a bit stronger. Noire is such an expressive, dynamic instrument, so that may also impact how your playing translates through the instrument.

I read further into the specs and even opened up the pedal to find a non-BBD chip. Packaging states all analog circuitry, but I definitely should’ve done more research of my own. Oh well. 🥸

Usually even just listening by ear and moving the rate knob while you play or messing with the oscillation usually gives it away for me. It does have more cut than most analog delays but still has a bit of warmth like an analog. I do like the gritty, chirpy oscillation of digital delays that are designed to sound like analog delays.

The pedal has true bypass, so when turned off, the pedal does not affect tone in any way.

@hexo-mobius I hope I’m understanding your question correctly. Once you have the plugin loaded up and you see the user interface with the knobs, there are a few pitch modes: Single, Dual, rev Single, rev Dual, and bypass. Any of these pitch modes except for bypass will have an octave-reverb as long as your shift is at +12, and your feedback is above zero. Mix will allow you to set your wet/dry mix according to how much of the reverb you want in your signal.

Hi Michael! I haven’t had a ton of experience with TC electronic’s pedals (really, only the PolyTune). Most of my current pedalboard is Strymon and GFI Systems in the wet effect part of my chain. I can totally agree about the overemphasis on reverb and “playing the pedals” in ambient. Reverb is a part of ambient guitar tone, but not the only component by any means. I still say that tone is very much in the hands of the musician.

Hello! Pianoverse is a piano VST that you can load into any major DAW and play with MIDI. It has its roots in several classical pianos, but I love the ambient and sound-design features of the plugin.

For this video, I actually just used the presets of the instrument. You can definitely adjust the mechanical noises if you wanted to remove the pedal, hammer, or any of the additional resonance sound samples.

What's the difference?

@boimesa8190 A BBD (Bucket Brigade Device) is an entirely analog chip, while the pt2399 is a digital chip that emulates the tone of an analog chip.

Solid question! I’ve used the Zuma for 5 years now, and only had one warranty claim to replace the AC jack (just days before the warranty expired). Other than that, no hiccups with the Strymon supply. The specs on the Zuma and Ghostfire supplies are very similar, but I will be field-testing the Ghostfire supply for a while to see how it holds up! Overall, my first impressions are 100% satisfactory.
