Round 1 of Wednesday Night Worlds at MB Models /Raceway Everyone struggled with front end grip through the first couple of qualifying runs while Racers made changes to the cars and tyres.... My own qualifying saw me go from 13 laps to 15 by Q3 great progress considering we were also learning a new track layout..... This placed me on Pole for the E final let's see how we get on..... #teamassocia...

Finally I made an "A" Final in what I think is my first legitimate way.... What I mean by that I was running a 2s lipo with a Brushed 35T motor (so a level playing field).. I was up against regular "A" calibre racers and even out qualifyed a Team Mardave driver (OK yes he was abit rusty).. So let's see if can justify my place in this final and not just make up the numbers 👍👍

    "Those better drivers need to drive better and go round me rather than hitting me" ... well put! Pretty much ALL the fast drivers here that are good will tell me to "just hold your line" and they'll find their way round. I know for on-road here in the spec 21.5t class some of them have some really quick motors and can over take by the end of the straight ... it's their responsibility to pass me cleanly, so long as I don't twitch around to make that impossible they should be able to handle that on their own. I just raced this weekend (will post later this week) and I know in a few of the races (for some reason I was in the top 6 all day in 4wd) I had to contend with the really fast (almost worlds class racer) kid in the club (honestly marginally faster than my son who's getting quick now) can get impatient and when that happens it's their own fault to hit me. Yes, I want to get out of their way ... but sometimes they come up on me SO quick I literally don't see them as they pass the car behind me and I don't realize it's them and not the other car they just passed which I was racing with. If they can get their nose in close, without tagging me, I can realize "OH, it's YOU!" and pull deep on the next corner ... but sometimes they get impatient and try to pass me between the next corner without giving me the opportunity to chose my path to get out of their way and, well, we collide. They're fast, but it's also their duty to make sure they give time for the slower cars to get out of the way too rather than barrelling through (which honestly doesn't work). On a 27 lap potential track, 90% of us are lucky to get 22 laps, so a few of us slower drivers inevitably make it into the main and reap havoc being mobile speed bumps and moving obstacles to add to the challenge. My son all weekend was whining about needing speed in his B6.4. Next race is our big race with the track about 2x larger than usual here. I think I'll gear him up a tooth or two and check the temp. Our classes here are the stock ones (17.5t for 2wd, 13.5t for 4wd, stadium, and SCT) so we don't have the luxury of finding faster motors other than manufacturers or playing with the timing (which I did, cranking his up a couple notches). Funny story on that, we bought a used 4wd from the local speed demon (who's gone to a number of the big American races over here and done quite well, making the A's at them) complete with ESC, Servo, motor and battery. I figured just leave it as it is for setup and let my own demon child give it a go. He took ONE lap on the track, took it off and brought it back to me complaining it was TOO FAST! I took a look at it and it had 13.5t motor in it ... then took a peek inside the HW XR10 Pro ESC and discovered it wasn't blinky mode (which is also a requirement here) and had an "AHA" moment. Reset the ESC and sent him back on the track ... and didn't hear from him again for 20 min or more. Much better, and quick, though he was still terrified running it LOL. He decided to run it for the weekend, and I got upgraded to his OLD one (LOL). He qualified 4th, and finished 2nd over all. I made the A's (6th) but had a few too many tumbles and finished 8th (out of 8), vid to follow. Short story now long ... you can also play with the timing on your motor, and turn off blinky mode (if it's on) to find some speed. Play with the turbo / boost to add it in if you're allowed. You may find speed that terrifies you to the bone LOL. Some nice tight lines, a few hiccups in places, a handful of SNAFU's, but otherwise great performance and finish. Thanks for sharing Fhuz oot!

      " reap havoc being mobile speed bumps and moving obstacles to add to the challenge." got to be honest there is a side of me that loves this idea😈🤣.. And yes I agree the emphasis should be on the faster (Better) driver getting round you but i guess it shows progress on my performance starting to be hindered by the lack of pace down the straight.... but honestly there is also a very real ceiling to my ability's which will probably get hit long before using the full potential of these 6.5T monsters that some of the lads run .....thanks as always mate for your input its appreciated ..... off topic for filming the races I'm using a cheap "No Pro" action cam but am thinking of investing into something much better my eye is on the Dji action 4 ...any thoughts and what do you use apologies if ive asked before ..

      @@BrensRCracing I know there are a lot of different cams we can use. I use a GoPro 10, which has stabilization, focus and tracking built in. This means that as my head bobs slightly the cam adjusts and the video doesn't show it. It also means that as my head moves slightly when I look to the side, it tries to minimize the change in direction to stay tracking the objects that were in the middle of the cam if it can. All of this minimizes the jitteriness that can happen, giving a more smooth video. I know my vids aren't perfect, but the GoPro helps a lot to fix what otherwise would make my stomach a little nauseous to watch lol. I also zoom in by 2x or more when creating my vids (using DaVinci Resolve) as otherwise my car would look like a dot on the track in places. The "natural" vid size shows almost all of the track (except maybe straight down in front of me) but I'm focussing on my own vehicle for the most part so the zoom works quite well. Even on the smaller track for indoor season I zoom in during editing. In short, find something with tracking and stabilization. I also purchased some mounts for mine, in particular a head cap that holds the cam steady on my forehead. I may look like an idiot on the stand, but it works well ... and for outdoor I've worn my cowboy hat on top to keep the sun off my shiny noggin without interfering with it.

    • @BrensRCracing
      @BrensRCracing 5 дней назад

      Errrr..... OK so I have without question been super fortunate to have started at a club (Force Raceway) and been sat with a group of drivers "The Naughty Table" were the emphasis was on having a laugh and a giggle if one of the 6 drivers were had good results on the evening that was a bonus and not what the group was really there for..... And that theme has carried on through the past 3 years.... Yes I am now challenging myself to be more competitive but the overall goal is to walk away with a smile I guess what I'm trying to say is.... It's the people not the category that's important... As to a more direct answer..... The minis are brilliant value however as I started to improve both abilitie and results I found myself guilty of pouring money in to try and find a edge, as the minis although a growing category is still a small ish group probably no more than 400 racing across a week so the chance to be a big fish in a small pond probably started influencing my racing... Tyre truer... Discharge trays... Motor washing.. The list goes on... And with that went the fun.... Buggies I'm never going to challenge the A or B lads which means I'm back to racing for fun and just to have good on track battles at my level.... Buggies can easily spiral out of all sensible costs.... But hopefully with this series I'm proving that you can be relatively competitive on a budget.... So keep it fun it's minis pound for pound the best but for atmosphere and availability to run every week then it's buggies... Clear as mud I think that rambling is...

    Nice run! The track is a fair size for indoor too. Our indoor here starts in a few weeks, but the top guys here are doing 9s laps (about 30 of them) with me hovering around 24-26 laps. The other nice thing over on that side of the pond is you have a lot of options of where to run don't you? Here I need a Passport to go 2.5 hours south of the border for a second option, or 5 hours north to stay in the country. How many tracks do you think you have within 2.5 hours of your home? I'm the same way if I'm lapping someone, especially the kids ... I try to tell them NOT to let me pass as it's more fun for me to have a little challenge to get past them cleanly if I can, and improves their skill trying to hold me off ... unless I'm in a tight battle at the time then yes please let us through LOL. I have a few particular friends where if they see my car coming up the battle is ON whether on the same lap or being lapped LOL. Your time would have put you among those in the race above. Too bad you don't run bumps over there. It's our little way of having each of the lower mains as quarter / semi finals to bump up to the mains ... typically top 2 bump up one main if they have a battery ready depending on the RD choices. I've managed to bump from the C to the B to the A once or twice, though once in the A group all I'm doing is pulling over to get lapped by someone every other corner or less ... making me just a mobile track obstacle lol. Congratulations on your win, (17 laps in the main YES!) and a combined total of only 1 SNAFU as you didn't actually use a marshal. Any track side advice from others on getting rid of on power pushing? Are you running anti roll bars? Toe in/out front/rear? Small things to play with easily between runs. Caster too (that front bulkhead you broke last race -- there are two types, and two orientations on each). Ride height too, go as low as the track will allow. Thanks for sharing! Fhuz oot

      When I read that mate I really can't complain about availability of tracks or places to run realistically within 2.5 hrs of me across both off road and on road disciplines there is 9 that I can think of off the top of my head.. DOH! Front bulkhead, I've broken a few o' those. I've now replaced them all with aluminium ones. At least you didn't break the ball stud mount on the other side, as THAT one requires almost an entire tear down of the front of the buggy (I have aluminium replacements to install now for that piece too). The more I beef up the front the more I'm now going to be worried something serious will break. I wonder if it was broke BEFORE the main and that was what was causing you to drift off during your qualifier? Did you have any serious crashes in the quallies? Just really lucky to go through an entire race without noticing if that was the case, the front end all wibbly wobbly would be hard to drive you would think. Still, only one major SNAFU in one of the worst places early in the race causing you to take a few risks later on that you may not have done otherwise ;o). Should count that one as a double snafu as it cost you 3/4 of a lap or so. When I was getting my motorcycle license 20 years ago I remember the tester knocked me down for only 3 scratches on the score card, and that was for a single incident where he thought I was driving too slowly through a neighborhood and put it down for 3 instead of a single. TOO SLOW he said LOL. 30kmh vs 50kmh in single lane areas past parked cars. I digress. You were looking pretty good out there, cutting some fine lines, nice work! Indoor starts here next month, looking forward to that ;o) Fhuz oot.

But the bloody motorbike took 5 attempts 4 fails when he followed me on a bike but the 5th it was raining and he followed in a car and passed weird?... Found brass bulk head to replace the broken one in the box of bits that came with the cars.... Also I now have some front end droop which seems to help..... Next thing to have a look at is rear camber and maybe some toe in... Have a fantastic week buddy....

      @@BrensRCracing back in 1980 or so, I took my first drivers test. Over a blind 90 degree curve I was going 30kmh, but should have gone slower as the tester wound up in my lap. Gave me a dirty look, but I'm sure he wound up there on a LOT of testing subjects. Next time I took the test I knew it was there, so really slowed down for it, aced the test. Took my motorcycle test 20 years ago passed on the first run through, but tester tagged me for going too slow through a crazy neighborhood of tight cars and narrow lanes. Testers here attach a walkie talkie to your vest and sit in the passenger seat of a car. One part of the test he didn't say anything as we approached a T intersection, I was like "which way", looked in the mirror and saw the car signal going so took appropriate action. The trickster LOL. Guess I should start wrenching my indoor vehicles very soon. I have 11 of them to set up in the next few weeks (SIGH).

    No "SNAFU" counter? Mind you, it would have been spinning like a fan during that race wouldn't it LOL ( JK ). That was a really REALLY tough first couple of laps. On a small track such as that, there's not much room for error with the other cars on the track: buggy arms protrude and tangle with each other (unlike on road car shells that can rub and bump one another). Great looking track surface IMO, we need bumps like those here. A few "major" crashes on your part really took you down in this race ... there's a corner at the end of the straight my friend ;o). Your car looked like it had fairly good steering for the most part ... why did you move the axles up inside the wheels instead of down? It seems counter intuitive as wouldn't it raise the centre of gravity in the front end a little? Did it give you more traction in the corners by doing that? The swaggers (?) on your buggy at the beginning of the vid looked quite worn down. I used to run swaggers, but switched to fuzz bites for more grip last season (and just spend 530 cdn today on tires for all 5 of our carpet buggies this winter). That said, my first year of racing here with my son we ran the same set of swaggers on the front for 6 races before putting new rubber on, and ran Nessi rears for the entire 12 races that season. I think you said someone gave you some newer tires for the race, did that improve the steering even more? We were supposed to race today on our dirt track (I posted my last races last week finally) but the Vancouver weather said "NOPE!" and they called it off. Out door on road next week then the last dirt race after that. Our indoor racing starts in October, and I'm looking forward to that (and getting my kid back into racing as he took the summer off). Did you say you were going to the worlds?? One of our local speed demons convinced his family to head to the Nitro 1/8 Worlds in Spain this year, and finished 120th out of 180 this week. Thanks for sharing as always, your commentary is valuable and inciteful. Fhuz Oot

      Dude!!🤣Absolutely no chance of the #Snafu counter for this one ....main reason though is the time it takes to edit the numbers on screen, as you know the editing process is a time consuming one if like me your trying to do some interactions with the couple of people watching😜.. Defiantly got to try and not force a pass rather drive with a bit more patience as the places would have come to me naturally , as you say easy to get tangled up in arms and wheels.... I did move the axels down buddy not up probably not explained it very well my bad,,,and yes it seemed to give more initial turn in steering than before .... although as soon as i moved to the "Splinter" front tyres the car was transformed from a steering perspective.... just lacking on power steering thats still pushing wide but nothing like as bad as the last time i raced ,,, so all improvements heading in the right direction.... $530 Cdn Ouch .... "worlds" no mate its just the name of the Wednesday night series , sound good though.. Its good you'll be back indoors for some more consistant racing mate I'm sure like here in the North of England the Weather is and has been just as unpredictable..... have a Top week my friend #TeamSnafu for the win (Well we'll settle for a fun night)... As said by others ,if you can access the diff by just 6 screws and the top of the gearbox lifts off its a 6.1 if the whole thing has to come off and split its a b6,b6 is longer than a .1 looking at the car its short id say .1 imo B6.1 is a very easy safe car loved mine for more steering id be looking at Fusion fronts or splinters Under servo weight Under esc weight Battery far forward as possible Differential 10k 2 gear Trim the rear tyre inner and outer rows Rear roll bar 1.2/1.4 As least rear toe as possible and even some anti squat to take away side bite Rear hub high Front hub high as you mentioned. Stand the rear shocks up on the tower. Id go -1 camber allround Can always add toe out on the front for more initial Few things you can play with there ,id start with a different front tyre (notice you have staggers on you can glue those down with a gluing jig to give more steering but the splinter is easier) And make sure least rear toe as possible and just do one thing at a time then try it so you know what it does....buggy racing is a minefield lol but enjoyable when you nail it 👍🏻

    The easy way to tell a B6 from a B6.1 2 or 3 is the gearbox. If the sway bar mounts to the back of the gearbox via a small mount plate, its a B6. The B6.1 introduced thequick access diff with the sway bar passing through the gearboxes 😡. Thankfully they've gone back to externally mounting for the B7.

    Nice run there! Podium too! Sorry to say, but you drive like me (LOL) looking for the stability everywhere rather than aggressively tackling the track (GRRR) like my son. You're probably right, and that's all about the fact you're buggy is "pushing" in the corners, preventing you from getting on the throttle a little sooner. I have Associated B6.4D buggies with Fuzz Bites front and rear. On mine, I run the skinny fronts, and on my sons he runs wide fronts (and kicks my butt with them). I've also pushed the outside arm as low in the tires as possible (as you suggest). For the B6.4 there's these blue aluminum spacers in the hubs (think it's the same for all the B6's) and you can get upgrade sets for some thin ones ... there are 4 sizes: thin and thick (which are both upgrades for me, and they are installed as a pair), and the two middles sizes (which came standard in my own buggies and also run as a pair). I run the paper thin ones opposite the thickest ones for my son (thickest in the bottom pushes the axles up relative to the arms), slightly thicker ones for my car (going to fix that to match my son this season). Thick on the bottom puts the centre of gravity lower in the wheels for stability. The other thing that "may" start happening is the evil traction rolling ... where you get too much grip in the corner. To counter that we use CA glue (ZAP? tire glue?) on the outside of the front tire from the rim to just where the tread starts or a little into the tread. This stops the side of the tires from gripping the track and tossing you over when at higher speeds, particularly for our 4wds (you're running 2wd). Check the track rules though .. our track prohibits traction compound (you probably don't use that either) and I'm not sure if they may have some hidden rule about putting glue on the sidewalls of your tires? Also, review your camber to make sure you're running -1 to -2. I also need to put my buggies in the contraption I just purchased a few months ago to review the camber, and toe in ... which I believe I'm running slightly toe out (which will give you more steering too). Not a lot, just a smidge of toe out or even straight; something easy you can adjust in the qualifiers to see if it feels better as you add 1/8 turn toe out. Sorry, probably over whelmed you! I have to get busy and post my outside dirt 1/10 offroad 4wd and ebuggy races (just got a new mic today to try LOL). Thanks for sharing!!! Fhuz oot!
