What is an Array? (Explained simply)
What is an Array? How does it work? Here is a simple answer (and more).
Note: I rail against non-zero indexed based languages here because zero is the modern standard, but even though 0 based indexes for arrays are the norm, there are some languages that don't start at zero that still have specific or rare use:
Fortran (Existed before C, only used in special cases in modern times): INTEGER, DIMENSION(1:5) :: array ! Starts at 1
Lua: (Register Based Scripting Language) myArray = {10, 20, 30} -- myArray[1] is 10
MATLAB/Octave (For data science, mostly replaced by python): array = [10, 20, 30]; % array(1) is 10
Smalltalk (A LISP): array := #(1 2 3). "array at: 1" returns 1

      False. Section 174 makes the labor more expensive. That's the breaking thing about this, tech labor is artificially more expensive because its being taxed out of existence by Trumps policies.

    If you are at entry level you need to think outside of the box. Not everybody can work at Meta, Google, OpenAI or Tesla. But likewise not everybody that could use a Software Engineer is at those view gigantic US companies. So you could look abroad, or you need to look outside your industry. Automotive, Aerospace, Medical, Agriculture, Chip Vendors, Banks, Infrastruktur those companies do have software problems too. Usually they want a engineer of their field with additional software skills. But having over the top software skills and the drive to learn other disciplines on the way is also an option.

    This is the state of the market right now. Coding has an increasingly low barrier to entry. People treat it like a science but it’s really more like a trade. School is necessary in some ways, but in other ways it’s kind of a red herring that inflates your expectations. I was very lucky because I didn’t go to school for CS. I just got a basic IT degree and randomly started coding at work. Now I’m basically the official “coder” for our little company. I actually migrated us to a new CRM and have automated a lot of things. I get crap pay because I have no degree, but simply being immersed in this world has opened up opportunities that will likely lead to a career pivot in the near future to an actual serious salary. CS is almost like an art. You have to prove you’re good and get random connections and people that can appreciate your work. Doesn’t really matter what your credentials are, if you have proven results, then you will rise above the resume spammers. Obviously if you’re insanely decorated with degrees and shit then you’ll find work, but for the rest of you code monkeys, don’t give up. If you love to code, then fucking code. Figure out problems wherever you are in life and think about how to can solve them with code, then actually go out and do it. If that’s not your mindset then gtfo.

    Australian here. full stack SWE with 9 years experience; Was working at Australia's largest software company and last week I got news that I failed my half-yearly performance evaluation. The entire half year cycle I got feedback indicating that my performance was good, then out of nowhere I am given the ultimatum "quit or try to keep your job via an 8 week performance improvement plan" (the PIP is a government legislated employee protection requirement, I'm not sure it's offered in earnest by the company). While trying to make up my mind, I've taken 3 weeks leave to delay the job loss and have been hitting the job market. It has been beyond dire. No interviews, several rejections - one for not having enough experience (apparently I didn't make the 10 - 15 years requirement). I've downgraded my salary expectations to between 110k - 130k AUD (75k - 90k USD) but still no bites. The thing is, if I'm offering a salary that low, I can't imagine what it's like for Jrs/mid level engineers right now. It has been absolutely devastating to my mental health. I can't believe what I'm seeing and have no idea what the future holds. I'm thinking of exiting the industry and going back to university. Or maybe moving into a van and seeing what happens to the jobs market over the next year. Maybe a relaxation of interest rates will help bring back the tech jobs and we just have to wait for that? Or maybe this is the new normal? I'm privileged to have had a decent job for this long but I'm honestly so sick of how many crises and "new normals" I have had to endure.

    I got a part time job 2 years ago working at a small business office supplies store that catered mostly to other small business's printing needs (business cards, wide format, docs, etc). And noticed a lot of them had very poor websites, with little to no ranking on google, colours/font sizes that made the site ugly/unreadable, and information that was out of date. I ended up making contacts with a few of them and improved or completely redid their websites. A great way to get work experience and contacts with very little risk. Worst case scenario, they don't like your website -- just revert to what they had. Sure coming to a job interview for a big company with "I built a few small business websites" doesn't sound like much, but you end up picking up a lot of relevant skills like dealing with clients/business requirements, meeting deadlines -- and having professional work on your portfolio.

    It’s so depressing because I didn’t go to college after high school. My parents didn’t have money and didn’t want to support me as well as me not exactly knowing what I wanted to do with my life but I knew I loved computers. Enter 2018 I was so fed up with warehouse jobs and not making decent money so I started looking at my local community and saw some degrees that started with “computer” and when I saw the word programming it brought me back when I made websites for my graphic design class. Man I was so excited and my mom was so happy one of her kids finally decided to go to college lol then COVID hit and I didn’t graduate until 2021. So I basically ended up wasting my time and money and it’s something I constantly think about. I no longer have hope and willing to settle with any office job.
