Pantry Challenge FAIL! | 2024 Update
Such a great way to stay creative in the kitchen while saving money! Loving the inspiration for meal planning!
2 Adults and a 13yr old that eats the same amount as we do, 7 cats, a dog and 2 beta fish LOL! .. We live in a very small rural area, about 3hours from stores so I shop bulk for all staples, meats etc, and just buy fresh produce, bread type items and cold stuff on a weekly basis .. I rotate as I replenish bulk items so I dont want those to go down to much since our 1 grocery store is very expensive and I only buy what I have to buy from there, occasionally there is decent sales that I pick up but usually we like to do out of town trips to do big grocery shops.. Ive been doing a food challenge twice a year for several years now, mostly to use up odds and ends, half used packages, frozen leftovers that sort of deal, so I still shop as normal during the challenge (fresh produce, bread type items and cold stuff), but I focus on using those items during the challenge ... this year I did a pantry update and found things that we arent going thru as frequently as others so I will focus on using that and wont buy bulk in the future, eg. certain canned good during case sales ... and really low on some stuff that I now know to buy more off when either buying during out of town trips, case sale or ordering online in bulk ... I really like the challenge because it makes you take inventory and look at what you have on hand, what your using and not using
I think it's so interesting that we buy certain things in bulk for a while and eat mostly those things, but then we get tired of those things or realize we aren't eating them so we don't buy those things in bulk anymore. I have a few things, like the fig bars that I bought a big box of and we loved them for some time, but now I don't find us reaching for them very often. So definitely taking a pantry inventory helps you figure out what you're eating and what you aren't. Good luck to you! 😊
I found electrolytes esp potassium and sodium and magnesium along with acupuncture to help with dizziness
Just 2 adults here, and sometimes a teenage grandson who eats like a horse and is spoiled as well. We grow our own meat, garden. We can, freeze dry, and freeze make ahead items like burritos. We do a lot from scratch, but have convinience items b/c we both work ft. Im a stna and pull 12s 3days a week and he works m-f in a laborious job. So like crackers, snacks but try to buy healthier choices. I wont forgo keeping my pantry stocked during a challenge especially if its a sale or coupon like for coffee, peanut butter etc...i do have a discount grocery nearby as well. I shop at a meijers mainly. So far ive spent 97$ but some was stocking up, the rest was grandson😂. Besides for milk or buns i could easily skip the store. But sales are good this week so we shall see! We cook from our larder and freezers. Ive got chili on the wood stove, ive got pastry ready to roll out and make homemade handpies with some apples i needed to use. 😊❤ level 2 snow er here and glad i didnt have to work today!
I agree with not skipping out on something you know you will eat if it is on sale! I would buy it also! I also try to pick healthier snacks for my 12s as well, definitely more protein heavy, sustainable options. I think it's hard to maintain a mostly from scratch diet with busy work schedules, I have a hard time with making things ahead of time instead of picking the more convenient options. Sounds like you are well-prepared! Good luck! 😊
@TrellisandTrails its funny i can fast on my days off, but i have to eat before i hit the floor! Lol
Is bison like venison my nephew hunts and blesses me with gifts of lots it i am single and with beef being $5.00a pound i thank God
So nice that he hunts and you have that option! Meat prices are very expensive!
I’m doing the challenge for the second time. I am a family of 1. I can, dehydrate and freeze. Tonight’s dinner and lunch prep was beef enchiladas and garlic ginger pork stir fry. For me, no eating out, no grocery store for the first month and 1 new recipe a week. Good luck to everyone.
Those sound delicious! I also thought about trying a new recipe weekly! I made a new garlic butter chicken pasta tonight and it was so good! Good luck to you!
I find it hard cooking for two with out so many left overs I do freeze somethings . But after 2 or 3 day's even just lunch an a new dinner more left overs.
Same. I find the easiest way to not have tons of leftovers is to portion meat and things out as soon as we get them (if they aren't already packaged individually). Big packages of meat or anything else that can be vacuum sealed and frozen gets portioned out into single dinner portions and vacuum sealed for the freezer. That way I'm not cooking way more than what we will want to eat in a week.
I totally get that. We had a good bit of ham left ….. so I did a black bean soup with some diced ham and ham and. Eans ( cranberry beans instead of pintos) both delicious but after days of lunch and dinner….im beaned out. I even froze a small package of diced ham for pea soup later on. 😑
I'm doing the pantry challenge for the first time! I will only go and get fresh produce, milk and eggs occasionally. I haven't gone to the grocery store since Christmas week. And to answer your question: it's only me and my cats no other people here! But to be fair, I do not have a homestead or any home canned/preserved food. What I do have is a fridge/freezer combo in the kitchen and a chest freezer. Both are very full. I also have a good amount of canned and dry goods in my cabinets. I hope to get through two months with hardly any shopping! I am confident I can do at least a month!
It sounds like you are prepared! You can definitely do it! I'm doing the same with the grocery items. Two months sounds like a long time for this but I think we also are better prepared this year! Good luck!!
Black eyed peas 🤤
So good!
Hey! Amazing job on ur blanket! It looks very cosy. I’m currently doing one for the year my son was born 2024. It’s my second attempt I messed the first one up a lot. I’m only up to Feb but I thought I would keep going at my own pace. I know I’m massively behind haha. Almost a whole year behind. But anyway what stitch did you use. I’m a beginner too. I decided to use double crochet and now I’m realising it’ll be way to big and im a bit upset about it. It takes me forever to do one row. I’m not sure if I should restart or not and just make it smaller in general it’s too big both ways I think
That sounds amazing! Don't worry about being behind. You can get it done, like you said, at your own pace. I used the single crochet stitch. I also messed mine up in the beginning but it ended up looking great regardless. It is massive. So I imagine a double crochet would be as well. Maybe just switch to a single crochet and see if that makes a difference with the size. You don't even have to restart it, unless you want to. Just pick up where you are now! You've got this! 💜
IT ATE IT SWALLOED IT DEVOURED❤❤❤❤
🤣 thank you!! 💜
Usually on the neck of the bottle it self for the syrup
Oh thank you! I'll look for it!
I love the colors they worked so well together like good job too i dont think i coupd ever so props to you
Thank you!
Beautiful 😍
Thank you! ☺️
Wow great self discipline and dedication ❤
Thank you! 💜
Awesome !! Way to commit! The ends look so cool- what did you do ??
Thank you! I just tied them off, but haven't got around to cutting them yet.
@ it looks awesome as is. Just that raw edge. You may be on to something to here w that look. A non-fringe fringe.
@@Trav-ij I kinda thought the same thing! I might just leave it because it does look like a fringe of sorts! The only reason I might cut them is if I decide to make a border around it. But I actually just like the way it is now.
@ it looks really cool. Well done!
@Trav-ij thank you!!
What are the final dimensions? Love your blanket!! ❤
Thank you so much! 💜 I'm actually not sure, I need to measure it!
🎉🎉🎉 So eine schöne Idee, ich liebe solche Projekte. Schade, dass man die Decke nicht als ganzes sehen kann, zum Beispiel auf dem Bett, damit man das Muster besser erkennt.
Thank you!! 💜 it's too big for a bed even lol!
I did one about 6 years ago. It was such a fun project. I’m planning on doing another one, but this time for our first year of marriage so it is going to start July 20th 2024 our wedding day and go through July 19th 2025.
That is such a unique idea! I love that 😍 good luck!
@ I was going to do me for 2025, but I thought this would mean more.
I am similar to you, in that I told my husband that other than milk or eggs or fresh fruit, we are going to follow the challenge as though as of yesterday we were stormed in and couldn’t get to the store. We get a veggie box every other week and a meat box once a month from an organic farm and it has already been paid for last September. I have finished my home canned inventory, now I am working on my pantry inventory and lastly I will be working on my freezers inventory. Good luck!!
Nice work! Sounds like you are very prepared! Good luck to you as well! 💜
Congratulations and great work! it looks so cosy 😍
Thank you so much! It is so warm and cozy!
Hello, We also live in CO. I will be doing the pantry challenge this year also. We did it last year, but towards the end of January we stopped. This year will be much more successful because we mostly eat from the pantry now. Before we ran to the store any time we wanted something else. I have over 1000 jars canned of a bunch of items we eat. It is my love language to can and feed my family. My grown children come over and shop the pantry for any items they are running low on. So we are much more prepared this year. I also don't have a cow or any way to get fresh milk so we will be allowing ourselves dairy items and produce for only small purchases. Good luck with the challenge.
Awesome to have a fellow CO friend here! 1000 jars!?! That sounds amazing and I know how much work went into preserving that much food! It's rewarding to be able to eat food that you canned yourself with minimal ingredients/preservatives. And even more rewarding to be able to share with others! Good luck to you in your pantry challenge! 😊
Congrats! I just finished my 2024 temperature snake!
That's so cool! I'm going to have to look up these temperature snakes!
I’m going to try to make a 2025 temperature snake :)
I might do the same! I haven't decided yet if I'm going to do any temperature project, but these snakes sound really cool!
So cool!! Happy 2025 ❤❤❤
Thank you!! 🎆
Congratulations!!!!!! It Looks amazing!!❤️
Thank you so much! 💜 so excited to have it finished!!
Excited to start my first one on the 1st!!
Same!
Yayy!! So exciting!
Me too!

Another video of "look what I have!" Cutting boards, cookware..... next!
@maryl234 hey thanks for boosting my watch time 👍
A no buy year for 2025 . I'm gonna just buy : my NEEDS and not WANTS .
Yep
Any no buy content is great for me
Awesome! I can't wait to share more! Thank you!!
@ I subbed to you yesterday to follow your journey and support you
Thank you so much! 😊
I am still trying to wrap my head around a NO Buy year. I think I am going to aim for a no spend Jan and Feb along with a Pantry Challenge and then re-evaluate at the end of the end of Feb. to see if I want to keep going. That cutting board with your logo is a wonderful gift!
I am definitely going to plan for a strict no buy during the pantry challenge as well! I feel like they easily go hand in hand and I will have the discipline to accomplish that during the challenge, and then go from there also! I think if I can do it for a few months, I'll think let's try 3 more months and then 3 more months 😆 thank you so much and thanks for watching!
That’s what I’m doing! I’m planning on a no spend Jan/feb except absolutely necessities like food and diapers but then try a low spend March/April where I’m just mindful about what I spend money on and still spend some but on experiences not clutter if that makes sense. For instance one of my daughters has a birthday in March and I’m planning to hire a princess to come but not buy a lot of clutter she doesn’t need for presents if that makes any sense.
This should be more viral! As a crocheted this looks like so much work 😅
Thank you! It was ALOT of work, especially since I didn't know how to crochet when I started this project (peep the wrong stitch for the first 30ish days lol)! It's also alot of work with a kitten that needs to involved in everything!! 😆
Thanks! I’m 50 our grandparents had so little and yet they were the happiest people ever! We truly don’t need all the junk including the junk unhealthy food from the store
Thanks for watching! You're so right, we don't need all of the material things and we definitely don't need the junk from the store! I love the idea of living more simply and sustainably and truly using the things that we have.
Wish I had someone local where I could do this.
I'm so thankful that we have this farm nearby! I just ordered some chicken from Good Ranchers, they seem to have good options for bulk meat! Not 1/4 of a bison of course but lots of variety/options!
I searched the name and see they are in Colorado and ship their products! Thank for the amazing informative video.
@@sprintbulls oh even better! Absolutely! Let me know if you order from them and how you like it!
Good morning! We are a family of 4, so we will have a budget of $50 per week for diary and produce.
@@Anabel.and.Thomas good morning! That's a great goal! I definitely am considering getting a specific budget as well, just to keep ourselves in line.
Ted is stealing the show and my heart! I can't wait to see the finished blanket.
Back when he was a baby, now he's huge 😭 I can't wait to finish it!
Love it
Not the fluffy helper😂 so cute
Such a great helper! 😄
Have you been diagnosed with veneers disease? Or checked your home for hidden mold?
No I haven't. I might go back to the ENT after a few more things I need to get done. Thanks for the suggestions!
I made a baked oatmeal, using pumpkin and dried cranberries. It was delish!!
I love baked oatmeal! That sounds delicious! 😋 I will definitely make a baked oatmeal during the pantry challenge now. Thank you!!
How will you be using the ground bison? Chilli, perhaps?
We have used it in so many different things! Basically, anything you would use ground beef for. Chili, tacos, burgers, meatloaf.. the options are endless!
I appreciated what you said about hormone-grown chickens, but chicken breeds are not all small.
I am learning that! Thank you! And thanks so much for watching!
I have had the same health issues you have had. Have you gone to a pulomnary/cardi dr? I have neurocardiopulomonary syncope.
I have not, but may be next on the list. Thank you!
I’m doing the Three Rivers Challenge also. It’s just two of us.
Good luck!
Cool idea! Looks beautiful ❤
Thanks so much! 😊
Love the bins in the freezers. Looks very organized.
It makes knowing where things are so much easier! Thank you for watching!
Great work!! ❤
Thank you! 😊
Congrats 🎉🎉🎉
Thank you!!
