As much as I do love Charles, I think Frank was by far much more fun and satisfying to watch them be cruel to. Also, Trapper was soooo much better and funnier than BJ. Much more handsome too.
Just my personal opinion but I didnt think Wayne Rogers portrayal of Trapper John was good. Elliot Gould in the original MASH movie was much better, livelier and funnier. On the show I felt BJ was a better character as his replacement.
Larry Gelbart and Alan Alda just had a great relationship as far as writer and actor goes. Rogers got less and less to work with as the 3 seasons progressed. Alda and Rogers had great relationship off of the show and great chemistry on but it wasn't 50-50 like it was supposed to be originally. That's Gelbart's fault for not letting Rogers' charm shine. Rogers left the show because of it. Although he claims other reasons dealing with contract issues. He was great on the show "House Calls" that would've lasted longer if Lynn Redgrave hadn't left the show due to dispute involving her pregnancy. By the time Farrell got on MASH Alda had started to take over the show and maybe allowed Farrell some more character development with his being a devoted husband blah blah. But the show became less humorous.
I mean this with no disrespect because it's just a TV show that came and went over 40 years ago. I could not disagree more. Trapper was awesome. BJ was by order of magnitude the worst character on the show.
@@yummyyum36719 I liked the Trapper character but just did not like Rogers portrayal of him on the show. Elliot Gould in the movie was a lot funnier and had a lot more energy. I liked his interpretation of the character.
Those were generally the most humorous. After that, Alda became more interested in preaching. Different actors, writers and stories…but all had plenty to offer.
I disagree .. I think Winchester was much better than Burns .. Might have been a pompous arrogant SOB .. But least he was human... Frank never evolved past being a parasite .. No offense to the parasites. :D
I think both were great in their own ways. I like Charles better as a character overall, but those first three seasons wouldn’t have been what they were without Frank.
Agreed. And-when he left, along came a Winchester-Major Charles Emerson Winchester...the Third, to be exact. He was kinda like Frank Burns in some ways...but different in some ways, too. Major Charles Emerson Winchester was his own special "Brew" of a person. In at least a couple of ways, he did some things that Frank Burns could never do. After all, he was the one who got rid of that ridiculous Colonel Flagg! And, at times, he could actually be... gracious. Mostly, though, he was the snooty Major, that Pierce and Hunnicut had fun with...but there are a couple of times, when their chicanery backfired on them, courtesy of Major Winchester. It was all in good fun. I miss those days... watching, laughing, and learning. M*A*S*H was one of the funniest, zaniest, and, at times, most heart-wrenching, shows that I've ever watched!
They had a patient with Hepatitis, and they thought Frank had given it to the patient. Ipso-facto, they needed his blood tested to insure he wasn't contagious.
That came later in the episode. The initial blood draw was because they had a North Korean patient who had AB neg blood, and Frank was the only person in the camp with that blood type. Frank, being the original Tea Partier, wouldn't donate blood to an enemy solider so they did the draw without his knowledge. The patient later shows Hepatitis symptoms so they need to check Frank to see if he has it. They don't do another blood draw, instead they fake the latrine being closed (Radar tells him they're redecorating) and they get Frank to pee into a bucket to get another sample.
They had a patient who is North Korean and he needed blood and Frank was his only match for blood by Frank said no I will not give it to a commie so Hawkeye and trapper wait until he was fast asleep to take Frank's blood for pi
I prefer without the track. So I can just let my emotions flow with the story of the episode. I'll laugh if there's funny things or be a little sad during a sad part.dont need that fake laugh every 5 seconds to cue me to laugh
American telly showed it with the laugh track, BBC 2 in the U.K. showed it without - the DVD, I believe, offers two versions - one with the laugh track, one without! If you watch it with the laugh track, the “audience” aren’t let into the operating theatre! When comedies were performed in front of an actual audience, an announcement would say “(Programme name) is filmed before a live audience!”. Well - they couldn’t film it before a DEAD one!
Hawkeye's imitation of Dracula always cracked me up :)
Loved this episode
Larry Linville played Frank to perfection.
As much as I do love Charles, I think Frank was by far much more fun and satisfying to watch them be cruel to. Also, Trapper was soooo much better and funnier than BJ. Much more handsome too.
What's with the seizure inducing flicker?
Hawkeye and Trapper best duo...
One of the greatest casts formed in history of television,
Thanks!
Not to defend Frank BUT. I would be pisst if I was frank to... Seriously PIST.
So..why did they do it for ??
A North Korean POW needed a blood transfusion
I think we struck dream…..LOL
What's wity the black flashes? Looks like the video is blinking
God I forhot that they stole his blood
Lost interest when Trapper John left.
One of my fav episodes
Don't get him too excited, we might start something we can't finish. I didn't get that joke when I was a kid.
I was just going to say the same thing!
same here! haha
mash is amazing funny show watch

Elliot Gould played it sleazy but smart. Rogers played it more goofy but smart. Movies and TV are different media.
Said no one other than you ever.

Why is this video trying to give me a seizure
All the seasons with TRAPP, Henry, Frank were the best.

Good work Igor very good. In the morning he'll be one one of my Brides
Shhh not so loud my count.
Without Frank to show would have been a total FAIL !!!

This is one of my favorite parts of this show
I've always loved mash.its my best show to watch.
0:48 Is that Spearchucker in the background?
Think so.
🤣😁😈😁
The laugh track would have made this clip perfect.
you kidding? this clip, like all of them, is better without the canned audience
Laugh tracks insult my intelligence. I don't need a cue to laugh. And it's especially distracting when the jokes are not funny
Sounds like star trek music.
Meh...just generic non tonal "suspense music' to be found in most TV shows at the time, comedies or dramas.
Frank talking in his sleep is so cute
He's giving a court martial to someone for not emptying the swill bins patriotically.
What was the whole point of this episode anyway?
Kevin Wise to get a North Korean blood
One of the best episodes.... Original MASH rocked!!!
Brett Karst Which one was this?
@@jenniferclark9842 this was the episode Germ Warfare in season 1 Episode 11.
1st 3 seasons w/ Trapper & Henry were the best
Trapper was so much better w/ Hawkeye than B.J....
First three seasons hit right on ball. The rest is kind of bumpy
Great scene but the same eerie music from the thing!
Ghouls! That's a nice thing to call us vampires.
Actually...according to lore...ghouls GUARDED graves from grave robbers, vampires, wolves, evil witches...lol
this is a flagrant violation of the Hippocratic Oath
more, than 500 ml in a minute. a knife into an aorta cannot be quicker.
OMG… My epilepsy just acted up watching this video
Was it because of the video having all of those breaks in it? I love this scene, but those breaks in the video feed irritated the fire out of me!
Why is the video blinking?
Melody Dooley same thing i was thinking
It's because you are a Chinaman!
Probably the framerate difference between an older recording and current standards.
honestly adds to the vibe xD
Maybe your blinking at the wrong time
And may I ask WHY they're hijacking a pint of Frank's finest blood? :P

@@cugamer8862 then they later find out that Frank has anemia and not hepatitis
Here in the northern hemisphere it's winter.
While the show would be made better if filmed without accounting for a laugh track, since they added breaks for the laugh track, it kills the rhythm
On the dvd's you can remove the laugh track. I have all seasons.
@@RetroFan and boy is it 1000 times better

A laughtrack can't make something funny. Stuff is either funny or it ain't. I always watch withOUT the laughtrack.
A laugh track can make something less funny.
