The results on end light board can only be seen at night. I don't care that much about the green light reactive times, but it's too bad you can't see the finish time and speeds, or the lighted end board just doesn't show it. Not being able to even see the WIN light in the daylight is a big disappointment. Doesn't your camera have a telephoto function?

It doesn't matter which lane has the fastest elapsed time or the greatest speed in mph, it's about which one gets to the finish line first. All the information collected at the data points down the length of the 1000 foot mark are only important to a crew chief on a pro car for tuning. It has no value for the fans.

Great video Dylan for trying to explain this ! I've been following SEGA since the very 1st race with the unveiling of Gene Cromer's Moonlighter at Greer Dragway. I can see both sides of this argument, but I like it the way it is - it gives one an old-school feeling of nostalgia without immediately comparing it to modern day technology. When attending a SEGA event, you are immediately transported back to a late 60's time capsule - and I think they that's the way it should be, with an appreciation for the achievements during simpler times. More than the scoreboard debate, would like to see SEGA "grow" even more with more entries in all classes (kinda surprised by the limited super stock entries), but like every thing else, it all takes money. Know it's a "stretch" , but would like to see a 30 car field in every class, and at least 20 representing the AFX class 😉. Ive been politicing for a contingent of SEGA cars to be represented at the Muscle Car & Corvette Nationals (MCACN) in Chicago - its always the weekend after Thanksgiving - think it would really give SEGA some "midwest exposure " with possible growth. I wish they would consider going back to Greer ( the layout is better than Shadyside), but I guess there's not enough room for all the motor homes & campers now. Anyway, SEGA is the only type of motorsports that I attend 😊...thanks again for the great video & keep up the good work !!

I don't have an issue with it either way, but most newbies to a Southeast Gassers event don't get it and are easily disinterested in the on track action because of it regardless of someone such as myself explaining to them as to WHY the times are posted. BUT, if they learn a little bit about the organization they're supporting beforehand, it'll lessen the culture-shock... and that's where Educational Videos such as yours here can and do make a difference in regards to educating the layperson. But, All I know is if the FIERCE Competition doesn't Win them over, Nothing Will.

I completely understand the nostalgia of no score boards and thank you for digging up the history for us! Personally, this is similar to allowing better quality G-Force transmissions and better equipment in the series compared to the 60's. It allows a better show for the fans. It brings an element to the fans that lets them get excited in the stands for someone that breaks a record, for example. I believe that I would be more on board with it if the announcers didn't annouce the times or they were not posted online. But since they are let the fans know who is the fastest and let them root for the underdog because you love their brand, or car, or person better. But this is coming from someone that grew up in a later generation of NHRA! Great video as always Dylan!

Great video - brought me back to my younger days. I'm 78 and grew up in that era. The days of the Swamp Rat, Don Garalits, Tommy Ivo's four Buick engine "rail job," Tony Nancy's "tailored tiger," and so many, many others. Just about anyone could build a car, drive it to the drag strip and race on Sunday. In Southern CA, where I'm from, there were several great strips to go to... and one-by-one, they diapered.. Sad times for those of us who were weekend racers!

I was a kid watching the evolution of Gassers and the A/FX evolution into Funny Cars. A great time!

I'm from that time and still put in the time with our gasser and with our 36 year old son at the wheel. Well done Dylan. Great little video!

The gassers back in the 60s weren't near as powerful as the ones at southeast gasser events. I like the rule about 4 speed manual shift only but back in the 60s a lot of gasser ran power glide built auto Trans. They were preferred because they only shifted one time and there was no rule about manual or automatic. Back in the day they ran 1/4 mile. With the power they have now if they were geared for 1/4 mile the speeds would be tremendous. That was then this is now. I am 78 years have always loved drag racing

I’m about your age and I’m just starting to build a Rambler hoping to run with the Southeast Gassers next year or the year after. I’ll be at Shadyside later this week and cannot wait to experience it for the first time. Thanks for this video.

Man what a powerful piece! Like you and so many others, the Southeast Gassers Association gives me a clear view of a time I didn't get to experience first hand. We're fortunate that we get a front row seat, and the opportunity to tell the story over and over. Great work.

Extremely well done. I thought I may have been the only one that felt that way. I grew up street racing in the 70's, and your assessment is spot on. Simpler, more raw energy and passion. Still nothing like a big block, 4 speed with a verti-gate and 4.56's to give you a rush.
