Thank you for this tutorial! This method is so much better than the ones that sew through the paper, and the reason I've not been interested in doing paper piecing. I like, too, that the paper templates are reusable. For a long time I've wanted to do a Storm at Sea quilt, and I think this is a very good way to do it.
What is the name of the book you are using to get your patterns from? I have seen lots of patterns coming from this book but have no idea what the name of the book is. Can you please let me know. Thanks so much and thank you for the great tutorial
Sassze One Saw your question about the Dear Jane book. It is out of print and was originally priced about $25.00. I just saw reasonably priced by Googling the title. “Dear Jane : The two hundred twenty five patterns from the 1863 Jane A. Stickle Quilt” by Brenda Manges Papadakis. ISBN 1-881588-15-7. Copyright 1996. Hope this helps! Janice
Excellent. The best instructions I have seen thus far on this subject. Thank you for taking the time. I am just starting on the Dear Jane quilt, so I am happy to have stumbled on this. Thank you.
This is fantastic!!! I have watched several paper piecing instructions and by far I like this the best! You show this in such good detail that it is really understood easily. Thank you so much for this tutorial!
Very good tutorial, learned a lot! Can you ask your cameraman not to zoom in so much. Sometimes he/she is focussed so close you can't see what you are doing.
I really hope you plan on doing more videos! This is great! I have heard freezer paper technique explained a hundred times. This is the first time I really understood. Thank you so much for doing this! You are a great teacher. Please consider designing your own paper piecing quilt and teaching us block by block on your own channel. I would buy the pattern in a heartbeat!
Hi, Thanks for the class. I would like to know about this dinosaur and monster quilting on the wall. Is that paper piecing? Do you have the pattern? Thanks a lot!
love the quilt, very different. A while back you did a video and you had a small finger suction ruler holder, can I ask where you bought it, have been looking for it since I saw your video. Thanks
msbjj1950 I bought those at the Denver National Quilt Show from a vendor a few years back. I am going to post a close up picture of them on my blog today 7-5-15, so you can see if you can try to make one. It looks like just a suction cup with a small plastic piece attached. They are VERY handy for the small sized rulers. Good luck!
Barbara Starr In the video I was making a block from the Dear Jane book. There are many paper piecing books available however, some are fairly easy and some are quite a bit more complicated. Some regular patterns can be adapted to paper piecing also. Try searching paper piecing books on Amazon and see what comes up and appeals to you!
I'm tempted to give this method a try. I'm a total novice at quilting, patchwork, applique etc but a great dressmaker. Your tutorial gives me the confidence to give it a go. However, in your video you say that some patterns don't have numbers on and that you have to do it yourself. If it's not a stupid question, how do you know what order to work in? Thanks
Dorien Reed It's not a stupid question at all. I wish I could show you though, I may need to make another video! Sometimes you have to just study the pattern and see what has to be sewn to what before it can be sewn to something else. Sometimes I start to number the sections then realize it won't work and have to go back and re-do. It's good to get them all numbered though before you start sewing, for sure, so you can picture how it's going to work. I will try to put together a video to demonstrate!
I like your tutorial but he camera work was not good. Wish I could have seen where you were trimming, stitching etc. Some of the time you would show us what you finished & it was out of camera viewing.
Karen thank you so much for showing us this technique. Hey I've seen that line somewhere before :-) You are making paper piecing (or foundation piecing) so much easier for us as we don't have to tear up the paper and we will get the excellent results that paper piecing gives without TEARING the paper and some stitches. LOVE IT and I've shared it on my blog - hope you don't mind. Patricia xxx
Karen, thanks so much for showing this technique. I have done paper piecing before and liked it but this is great because you don't have to spend so much time removing the paper plus you can use the templates again. Thanks!
By ironing the freezer paper to the fabric, it stays in place and serves as a guide without sewing through the paper, which then makes it MUCH easier to remove the paper after your are finished :)
OMG! THAT IS SPECTACULARLY AMAZING!!! THAT is TALENT!😍😍
This is amazing. I, too, wish I could see it up close.
Very helpful, thanks
The clearest foundation paper piecing tutorial I have seen. Well done.
Thank you!!
Great!! Good luck :)

What size needle are you using? I am giving this method a try!

Thank you for explaining how to sew two sections together; I always screwed up my blocks. I am off to my sewing machine right now!!!

What a great tutorial! I too never learned this process so I was fascinated. You are a terrific teacher and I enjoyed this very much. Thank you!
Good tutorial. I never learned freezer paper piecing. I think I can do this without taking a class in a store!!!
+Teri Sanders Thanks! Let me know if you have any questions!

This has encouraged me with The Farmer's Wife 1930's Quilt Along group because your instructions are so clear and precise. Thank you.
Thank you so much! I am planning to make more videos!

Excelent teacher, good voice and timing! But the camera is often showing the wrong spot...
I don't understand why you are not sewing through the freezer paper when doing your blocks?
By ironing the freezer paper to the fabric, it stays in place and serves as a guide without sewing through the paper, which then makes it MUCH easier to remove the paper after your are finished :)
Awesome, thank you so much
Your're a great teacher and this is a great video! thanks!
Good luck with your Dear Jane! I am about half way through and one of my goals for 2014 is to finish it!
Great instructions and quite a coincident that I am starting a Dear Jane too!
Thank you for the feedback!
