Cundy Cup 2022
An annual 4km race up the river held when the weather allows. This year was very close.
There were 6 boats in the race but I only have 2 GPS trackers.
One untracked boat (the Volvo hull) did finish physically ahead and so won on boat handicap, however the trophy is awarded based on a club personal handicap system.

Had a lot of fun on Sunday. A good breeze and sun! After a fast paced and fun morning we did a long distance, downwind pursuit race. I’m given a several minute handicap and need to chase down the others. It’s very close right to the end! There were actually 4 boats in this race but only 2 are shown. Race graphics from raceQs.com

Repairing a leaky Laser hull
Просмотров 8 тыс.2 года назад
Did a much needed winter overhaul on my 1978 Laser dinghy. This is my first time doing boat repairs so I’m sure I did a lot wrong! Please add tips in the comments below. When sanding do it in a well ventilated space and wear a mask.
Hiking in the Lake District - Skiddaw and Newlands Round
Просмотров 692 года назад
A mixture of weather in October, although better than expected! Unable to do much fell-walking on our last trip, we tried to make up for it this time - in the fog doing Skiddaw via Little Man on the pony track, and later in the week on a stunning day doing Wainwright’s Newlands Round. Wainwright’s recommended Newlands Round walk excludes Catbells, though we have scaled it on previous trips. Goi...
Typhoon Terror on the Thames

A gusty wind and strong current were tricky enough before the storm rushed in and annihilated the fleet! Managed to get back safely, I was mostly wet from the rain. The sun came out and dried us out. The capsized bosun was rescued too.
Mid Thames Trophy at Desborough SC

My first time sailing competitively elsewhere and we had a great time over at Desborough Sailing Club. Desborough is the home of the British Moth dinghy since the 1940s and they still have a strong fleet of Moth enthusiasts! Competing for the 2021 trophy are teams from Aquarius, Desborough and Staines sailing clubs. Congratulations to Desborough for your victory, and many thanks for hosting. We...

A trip to the Lake District

Beautiful weather for the Lakes, and beautiful scenery of course! We stayed in Far Sawrey, just down the road from Hill Top (Beatrix Potter's house). We did pop round but I didn't do any filming there. This video doesn't quite cover everything. RHS Bridgewater opened in May 2021 and we were lucky enough to get tickets for our journey home. Knee still in recovery so no sailing or big fells on th...
Recovering from injury and RYA Open Day

I over twisted my knee when falling from a paddle board in May. This partially tore the Medial Collateral Ligament (MCL) and overstretched the hamstring. After four weeks of rest the MCL is repairing itself nicely, and I’m working on building up and retraining the hamstring. Sailing now would risk undoing the progress made so far - hopefully by the end of July the leg will be strong again. In t...

From Padstow to Wadebridge - 5.5 miles Probably the prettiest, but busiest, part of the trail. You can continue on the trail from Wadebridge on to Bodmin and Wenfordbridge. There are several bike hire companies along the route. I wasn't able to join due to a knee injury from paddleboarding (see last video), so this is filmed by Mum

Dinghy river racing and how to recover from a capsize
Self bailer?
great set of videos, enjoyed watching them - not many videos on real world laser sailing. shame you stopped but thanks for making and sharing them 👍
Great video, keep them coming!
Thanks! Just on a winter break - sailing season starts soon!
What software are you using to track the boats at the top of the screen? @ilcalasersailor
RaceQs.com - upload your GPS data and create a course.
Did i just see you fill in scratches with paint? They looked pretty deep, i would have used epoxy or probably even better gelcode for that for sure. How is it holding up though? Edit: was that some kind of special boat paint or what did you use?
Sorry for late reply. Yes for the majority, just topcoat marine paint (Toplac). I did use a bit of resin around the daggerboard where they were more structural and there was some cracking. There were too many scratches to do them all with resin - would probably make more sense to just buy a hull in better condition! It’s held up pretty well - I’ve discovered a new leak deep inside the daggerboard housing though which I need to get around to sorting.
@@sailwithjosh no worries, thanks for the reply at all! I have a few repairs to do on my boat as well, however ill wait till it gets a bit warmer
Mount the Bailer 😁
I had a Rubber Laser...everytime it blew force 5-7 I would try to break it but it just kept flexing and cracking...LoL...ps the mast and boom had permanent bends 😃
What’s the computer graphic racing distance you have in this video? Race strategy?? Hope
RaceQs.com you can see more usage of it here Pursuit Race highlights ruclips.net/video/Yp6JPT2STxw/видео.html
Darn that log!
😭
I notice you don't have a toe strap in your laser. Can I ask why? Think I'd spend even more time in the water without one 😃
I kept getting the mainsheet/myself tangled on it. With more open water with longer reaches and more consistent winds sure, but on our stretch of river, constantly tacking and gybing it got in my way. I hook my toes under the grabrails instead, I do lose a couple of inches when hiking but 99% of the time it’s no issue.
Why don't you have a toe strap? That seems like an absolute necessity on a day like this!
I find that on the river I’m rarely on a reach long enough or the wind is too inconsistent to be hiking out. For me, it got in the way more than it helped!
@@sailwithjosh and close hauled? My experience is all in a significantly more stable boat in which I can hike out all day long on any point of sailing, and I simply can't imagine not having a foot prepared under the strap... but having just got a comet I need to work out single hander technique. The most experienced comet sailor in my (also river) club reckons if you aren't just as wet from hiking as if you capsized then you're doing it wrong.
I hook my toes under the ‘grabrails’ which run down the inside of Laser cockpits. I find this is enough for me to hike out but I do have long gangly legs! Everyone else at the club does have toe straps, so I am the unusual one. Certainly on this particular day they would have helped!
Exciting!
What a great race 👏
Paddle season is back
Wow 🤩
✨ Shiny ✨
Another excellent video, Josh! We love watching them!

Would you mind sharing how you make the overhead video including boat distance measurements?
Hello 👋 I put GPS smartwatches on the boats, then export that data as a GPX file and upload to raceqs.com On raceqs drag and drop your marks to create the race course.
Shared onto the cruiser whatapp group at Desborough sailing club where we are currently renovating a bosun.
Hello Desborough! 👋 If you haven’t seen already you might like this video from our visit to your club in September ruclips.net/video/LBEqYntnvS4/видео.html Good luck with the renovation - a bosun is a great boat… though I’m a little envious of your moths!
The lakes look amazing. Makes me want to go there for a long weekend. Keep the videos coming, you have a new fan here!!!
Best one yet! ⭐️
Oscar-winning stuff
I could remake The Parent Trap
Love the thumbnail!
Sooo beautiful! 😍
It's 'CONISTON WATER'. There's no such place as 'Lake Coniston'. Also, there's no such place as 'Lake Windermere' or 'Lake Grasmere' (it's just 'Windermere' and 'Grasmere' - the 'mere' bit says enough - if you need to distinguish, the town of Windermere should be called 'Windermere town' and the village of Grasmere should be called 'Grasmere village'.)
Oops 😬 I’ll update the video description. I like your capybara.
Great video! 🌟

Although it’s actually the wrong ligament 🤫

No racing, but there is almost a crash at 04:10!
@@sailwithjosh 🤣🤣 I didn't even notice that. Lol Great job not crashing into people! 😊
Thoroughly enjoyed our paddle. In your defence, it felt choppier than it looks :)
I like the music in this one
I agree with ☝️. I liked the beginning of this video. And also that little turtle 🐢and snail you snuck in there! 🥰
Ok I forgot the posts go on top. Lol I agree with that previous post! 🤣🤣🤣🤣
when assisting crew to board vessel ; hold crew by shoulders of life jacket so they can use their arms
Solid advice, thanks
I love the start!
I think one of them should be an Ash duckie. 😬
Tad bit of advice if you want to grow your audience, upload the capsize as a youtube short in vertical mode, other than that good video!
Duck Whittington
Duck Turpin
