I once heard that Claude T Smith wrote this song so hard for horns because the first chair horn in this band beat him for first chair back in the day. I can see why too

The clarinet part that starts at the 32 second mark is not slurred.....makes its a lot easier to play but that is not the way it is written

This is an excellent live performance of a very difficult, academic piece. Bravo to the players! Cool to see Jennifer Higdon’s name among the ensemble.

Hello! Great recording of Fantasia in G, especially since the piece was newer back then. Do you happen to have recordings of BGSU Symphonic Band concerts from 1980? I’m looking for Feb. 21, 1980 specifically as It has a recording of Symphony Op. 35 by James Barnes, which I’m researching. If you have that or any concert with that particular piece played in full could you upload it? It won the ABA Award in 1978 and my goal is to hear why it won. Thanks for reading this! @@BGSUBand yeah it’s almost lost, especially since it was not published. It’s not the only award winning piece that has been neglected. Not to mention lots of older repertoire from rare composers. I’m sure it will turn up at some point though, someone’s got to have it
