Pulling a Classic Mustang out of a Barn after 33 YEARS!
Hi man!! How are the twins doing? Any update on the head?
@@emmanueljimenez5141 doing great! Thanks for asking. I'm designing the intake this weekend actually
Dude you have built a beautiful engine with a lot of cool high speed stuff but it is very difficult to listen to you talk about all of this stuff. Quit apologizing for so many things. It is what it is whether it’s your fault or not. If you have subscribers complaining then they should just get the hell over it. Second quit saying “uh” every other word. It’s very tedious to listen to. Third when and where is the #4 dyno video? I have looked through all of your videos and don’t see one labeled as such.
How much compression are you running ?
@@RussellSwinney-q4v Approximately 9.5:1 on the compression ratio. We'll drop it down a bit when we get to the boost phase and then adjust it when the new head is complete.
@enginegremlin Ok, my dad, I are looking for a good shop for pistons. We are running about 11.1 ratio on his 250" inline 6. Do you have any ideas on a shop ? Thanks for getting back to me.
@@RussellSwinney-q4v there some shops in California. Jeff Jones in the straight 6 community might be able to work with you as well. There is a shop here in Denver called DC Racing Engines that could do it as well.
@enginegremlin Thank you very much, sir. We will check them out.

How to Build the ULTIMATE Ford Straight Six Motor: 1. Go to Australia. 2. Scour junkyards and used-car lots. 3. Obtain a Barra or a car having one - DOHC, 4 liters, iron block, effectively Ford's answer to the 2JZ. 4. Go crazy.
Possibly have a parts list for that t-5 swap? 😩

Are your crank and cam balanced to absolute 0s? If so who did it?
@@axemastersinc3269 yes on both. Clay Smith for the cam and unfortunately I'm not sure on the crank. There's a place here in Denver that the shop I built the motor in sends em to.

What are the performance capabilities of a turbocharged Ford 300 inline 6? I don't know if it could match the performance capabilities of a turbocharged 4.8L (approximately 800hp-1000hp). Or would this be asking too much from a Ford Inline 6 (even turbocharged) ?
@@rifleman7313 A 300 with 2 LS heads welded together with boost can easily put out 600 HP and there are some that do 800 that are documented. If you wanna do more than that though, you'll ha e to do some serious custom stuff like we're currently working like a block girdle, forged rods and pistons, custom crank, etc.
Was that the Hotchkis tubular arm suspension?
@@allianceinsuregroupwithdana it is Street or Track's tubular arm, front coilover suspension with Bilstein coilover shocks. They designed and fabricated it in house here in the US.
I would love to see a Ford 300 inline build. Such a great motor I know they are more of a work horse engine, but thats why I would love to see what can be milked out of them.
Im an Aussie Ford man. Ford has made the best range of sixs in the world. They are utterly unbustable. 200 ci the 221 the old 250 and in Australia we then got the 250 in a crossflow then alloy head weber two barrel downdraught carby 4.1. Then came the intech 3.9 fuel injected overhead cam and a 3.2 cfi then evolved to 4.0 overhead multipoint injection. Which ultimately become the Barra. All of these engines are just magnificent and GM Australia never had an engine to match them for maintenance free unbreakable engines.
dyno numbers?
@@sodakproud about 220 hp and 230 lb-ft on a test carb. Port injection had a bad tune so I'll have to do another dyno run with the car itself since I ran out of dyno time.
Ford Australia made the 250 2V head that is exactly the same as your alloy one , it has a bolt on alloy intake too , and two cast iron duel exit exhaust manifolds .
Mr Shelby had no problem using the original system racing, ok?
I was going to watch this but once i saw efi in the title. Nevermind.
If a motor have less then a 100 hp/ L , im not interssed. Japanese did that 30 + years ago.
Where is part 4?
@@jamesritchie8540 in work. My wife and I had twins so filming was put on hold for a while
i'm looking at an 1962 e100 with a 200cu and want to bump a little HP. who else is bumping straight 6? I had one company that was doing straight 6 on jeeps and ford but can't remember the name.
@@BACARD1BB Jeff Jones is a good one to reach out to in the Ford straight 6 community. Just be careful with the 62 since they have a 5 main bearing block instead of the 7 main that started in 65 so it'll only take so much HP. There is a shop out in California as well but I regrettably cannot remember it's name.
Maybe history by now but Clifford (“6 = 8”) used to be a big supplier of 6 cylinder parts.
I never understood why Ford used that head design.
Great build but why is it orange lol
@@chickenandmilk1216 to match the future paint scheme on the car
@@enginegremlin I understand
if some company went to the trouble to design and build an aluminum aftermarket head, couldnt they have made it crossflow style to seperate intake/exhaust, not only for heat but possible better longterm sealing and maintenance of both sides? or is there major complications like distributor clearance that couldnt be managed?
@@WilliamMunny-d8s I honestly am not sure. The original designer and manufacturer (back when it was Classic Inlines) passed away some years ago in the 2015. But we're using a crossflow design in the head we're currently designing.
@@enginegremlin its kind of too late now, since i completed my LS swap 4 yrs ago and sold that car last summer and since then also sold my backup ls engine that was basically complete except for starter, alternator, ex manifolds BUT just worn out HOW HARD would it be to take a blown LS engine and rob all the EFI parts and adopt them to something like an INLINE ford 300? Would you be able to just take the throttle body, IAC, TPS, fuel rails efi fuel tank/pump etc, Temp sensor to use a cut down version of the LS software to keep running those systems and leave the spark alone or would spark also need to be adapted and integrated into the Ford block /spark system somehow?
The music 🎼 is perfect 👍
🤌
How much horsepower will it have when it’s done ?
If our math is right as well as the tune, should be around 250 with the cam we have in it. A more aggressive cam could get a little more.
@@enginegremlin so it about doubled it. At what cost$ moneywise ? Also suggest upgrade an inline 6 or just do a complete v8 swap? Which is more economical?
@@tmacdagreattv a V8 will definitely be more economical but not nearly as unique or fun. Our i6 will dump out between 350 and 500 HP when we boost it and re-tune it depend on how much boost you add. With the new head we're designing we're targeting 750-1000 HP but it requires some SERIOUS mods. The build up to this point between $6k -$8.5k depending on how much you do yourself vs a machine shop and the state of your motor. Our motor was totally seized and needed a complete overhaul.
@@enginegremlin nice , so how much would you estimate would be the cost to get my inline 6 to about 300-350 hp?
@@tmacdagreattv if you use a Sniper unit and a supercharger out of one of the fox body 5.0s (which is the easiest way), I'd say $7.5k-$8k assuming you do a full motor rebuild. Less if you motor is running and in decent shape.
What are you going to do with the engine you build? Is it for sale?
That's the idea. Or sell the IP to a manufacturer for them to build and sell.
Wow after watching the video a few times I just noticed that the driver's side running horse emblem is backwards! 😲 Lol
My god your right. Well, we'll fix that nonsense rest assured.
This episode is 1yr old and they are STILL showing Out-of-Stock on the Cylinder head and they are NOT adding any additional names to the waiting list. Hmmmmm....looks like they still have problems.
Yeah. Which is why I decided to design a new head based on the 2JZ.
First time and last, no way I'm gonna sit and listen to that horse shit music. why do you think you need music blasting at all? I came to see a motor build not a rock concert......
Sorry to hear that. This was our first video with and background track and needless to say, we had a lesson or two to learn on volume levels. I promise the other videos are better.
I didn't know ford had inline 6s with timing chains. Mines gears.
The 300 had the gears (I wish they all did) and all the smaller ones had timing chains.
what happened to the vintage aluminum head?
so this head will only be for boost applications?
will it fit the 170? I cannot find crap for information on these engine specifics
Does your top 4 also apply to the 170?
Can I have a message with you about that The Ford Falcon Six Cylinder Performance Handbook?
((( Question ))) What are those 4 Round about 1/2 dollar size underneath the headers called?....???? My front one( cap) closest to the front of the engine on my I 170 is missing and pretty sure why I'm getting fumed out.../ unwanted buzzz.. If you or anyone knows.....let me know
Good luck getting a hold of the aluminum vintage inlines head. Evey time I check the site it's OUT OF STOCK.
Its been around since the early 1900s.
You forgot about the 240 which was where the 300 came from....
He should have soaked those lifters in oil
I just bought a 68 exactly like yours.
Any updates? Still nothing on the website.
Do all the rear ends come pre built?
No. Depends on what you want. They are very good about tailoring to your needs.
Hey man, congrats for the twins!! What a blessing. I other matters. Do you have any idea when you are having the first head done? I hope it doesn’t happen like Vintage online, they never made it again
Goal is to have a prototype cast by the end of the year
@@enginegremlin sweet!! If you cast a second prototype i’ll buy it!!
is there just a shock and coil over the at can be installed in place of the or spring? Everything is original “new” parts except the springs on my 71 Mach one
So regrettable there is no off the shelf product like that that I am aware of. You COULD modify the mount points for the strut and put a coilover in its place and put in a shelby drop while you're at for the stock arms but I make no promises on performance for something like that. As long as your handy with a welder and a grinder (as a bare minimum), it shouldn't prove too difficult.
First you need to start with a Barra. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ford_Barra_engine
