I've tried several of these and they don't come anywhere near a proper serger in terms of ease of use, finish neatness, stitch security or speed. ( Proper sergers are fast even domestic ones). Strongly suggest anyone reading looks out on the 2nd hand market for an old (sort of 1970's) - Juki serger. The Singer Sergers of the time, among others, were made by Juki - like the 14U234B - and go for little money. Like the sewing machines of the time they are made to last and last. They probably won't have had that much use/wear either. They're smooth, fast and (for a serger) fairly quiet. Modern (very very expensive) sergers major on air threading etc., but once you've threaded a vintage one once or twice it's quite easy. At that time Juki made a lot of the sergers on the market for different brands that re-labelled them as their own. The modern Singers although they might look the same are a piece of ........ (probably not allowed by youtube).

I do love my SE1900 that I bought in June 2020, but the auto-threader stinks to high heaven. I have replaced it TWICE and it isn't working once again now. It only works when I use a JEANS needle which isn't that often. Mostly I do embroidery and it never works then. It doesn't work with Schmetz embroidery needles nor Organ 75/11 recommended needles. Someone in a Facebook group said her tech guy said to use an 80/12 needle but can you use that size when embroidering? Her Luminaire has the same auto-threader issue!!!

Do you know what the markings on it mean? If I wanted to use in place of serger how do I line up the fabric to do 1/4” seam or 1/2” seam?

Glad I saw this before buying that cheaper one. Now I will invest in the proper Brother one for my SM1400.

Thank you for this video on how this presser foot works. Wondering if I can use it finish edges of fabric like canvas. To stop it from fraying.
